Beautiful photography, and concisely scripted. Thank you for posting this. (Perhaps a drop of lemon and Bourbon in your tea for that throat?)

Ahh, so a lot of folk are walking about with grotesques on, explains a lot😊

That grotesque helmet from Maximillian really reminds me of Dark Souls 1. Dohmnall or something was it? I find the "glasses" in particular funny.

Well done. Not at all grotesque. Is there any record of Henry's response upon receiving that hideous thing?

I am not aware its recorded. We also don't know that he ever wore it

im a total histrionic hipster who likes being the centre of attention so i have often thought about what sort of weird helmet and kit i would ideally possess, though perhaps standing out on the battlefield may attract the wrong kind of attention 🤪

dont think max was a fan of old harry's and i think the gift to have been a delibrate insult, calling him both evil (horns) and blind, possibly on his split from rome

i've heard the helmet was actually a portrait of Maximilian, and if i remember correctly they were a friendly as two rival european monarchs could be, they even went on campaign together in France. your hypothesis about it being because of the split from Rome doesn't work because of the dates, the helmet was made around 1511-1514 while Henry split from Rome in 1534.
