  • If you're using your binoculars to observe from one spot, or need maximum stability for a precise observation, then you'll probably benefit from a tripod.
To connect your binoculars to your tripod you'll need an adaptor.
Almost every adaptor (we're not aware of one this doesn't apply to, but there may be one out there) needs to be fitted to the tripod head using a quick release plate. This adds costs and weight, and can introduce movement, unless your quick release plate has an anti-twist pin, and your adaptor can use it.
With more and more brands introducing Arca compatible tripod heads (most of Vanguard's heads are Arca compatible) there's an opportunity to break this norm with the new VEO BA-185 ARCA for a more secure fit, while saving the need to buy an extra quick release plate.
If your tripod head is Arca compatible, simply put the VEO BA-185 ARCA into the clamp and tighten, and you're good to go, with no risk of the adaptor coming loose on the quick release plate.
If your head is not Arca compatible, but the quick release plate has an anti-twist pin, then you can use the VEO BA-185 ARCA. You'll probably still need a spare quick release plate unless you're happy swapping the one quick release plate between devices, but you can use the anti-twist pin to ensure that the adaptor doesn't unscrew in use.
If your head is not Arca compatible, and the quick release plate does not include an anti-twist pin, then you can still use this, but you may want to look for a simpler solution like the VEO BA-185, or upgrade your tripod ;-)
