Listening to Donald and Walter speak is nearly as satisfying as hearing their music. Smart, snarky and so damned funny! RIP, Mr. B. You are sorely missed. Stay well, Donald. I don’t want to live in a fully Danless world.
I met you guys briefly and a photo on my 50th Birthday at the Lettering show when 2 against nature came out .if there is such a thing as a true Steely Dan fan it's me! I have followed you both since 1972 when you did a gig at Avery Fisher hall when you Donald stopped the .usic and told the sound crew that they better get it together before you continue. You did the gig with ELO whom I can't stand sorry . When Walter passed,I'll share this here.I cried for 4 months. I cannot imagine how Donald felt. I have spent a fortune on tickets so give me a hoo-rah for that. I know the real reason why Walter passed. This was a horrible death but yo see him physically change was just as bad. I know I grew up and lived .most of my life in New York. I li ed that life of Time out of Mind since I was 15 a d was lu ky enough to have stopped in time before the fentynal shuffle.Donald I have played bass studied with Doc Goldberg.i have played with, 34:17 done TV and the Garden AND toured with so many recording artists your eyes might spin. You know them all.Just three Dionne Warick, Bo Didley Coasters,CRYSTALS,Shirelles.Soi also grew up right near Walter and myfriends Went to see the road sign they did For Walter in QUEENS !! DONT THINK YOULL SEE OR READ THIS BUT STANGER THINGS HAVE HAPPENED.GOT A LONG EMAIL FROM JOHN Herrington and Robert Plant. I love what you and Walter and the Dan brought into my life. I am lucky at almost 70 to still be here when I lost almost everything . I am now going to pra ti e and learn somethings as after having 39 basses all ki da I have a nice Jazz and good amp. Take care boys.
It strikes me that all the references to the state of affairs in the current times are just sa applicable today in the early 2020s as they were in the 1980s. Fantastic interview...thanks for posting!
"The sons and daughters of the Pioneers!" (18:08) There really was something special between those two. Too bad, the interviewer sticks to his pre-written questions and doesn't go along with the gems they are throwing at him. Anyway, a fascinating piece of history. Thank you, Hans!
They paid respect to one of my current favorite groups: Ivy. Unfortunately, they haven’t released any new music since 2010 or 2011 and the bass player, Adam Schlesinger from Fountains of Wayne, died of Covid-19 last April.
Not that "Two Against Nature" was unworthy of those four Grammys, including Album of the Year. The real shame is that the NARAS voters denied the band its due for "Aja." Talk about an obvious choice for Album of the Year! Fleetwood Mac are good, but "Aja" was a record for the ages. "Two Against Nature" is a "make-up" award. "Aja" was the real deal!
Guy imo is awful. Donald says 9/11 occurrences during the recording. Follow up is “ do you prefer oranges or blueberries “. Want to knew why they were snarky? Evidentiary.
Excellent interview and interviewer, intelligence questions and let them speak. Thanks for sharing
Wonderful and respectful questions. Thank you so much, sir. And Walter, we need you back.

Thanks from Rosario, Argentina!
12:45 they both land on the word “bacterial” at the exact same time. Just goes to show what their partnership was like.
You’re right, what a wonderful one-brain-in-two-heads moment
So cool.
Yeah WTF. Of all words in the English language and they jinx each other with “bacterial” 😂
Wonderful interview
"Apocalypse Wow", 🤣 love it!

Jody Denberg!!
It's hilarious listening to this fantastic interview in isolation in 2022 , the references to bacterial / viral and apocalypse resonates hard.
