The articulation of Donald Fagen underscores the strength of his lyrics, let alone the overall construction of the songs.
I think its pure genius, what he was born to do.

How they come up with the lyrics and instrumentals and put it together is stellar

Excellent interview. Fagen is a musical genius and it's always great to hear him speak.

Like 'awesome', the word 'genius' has been so devalued by its repeated use these days. I like to save it for the genuinely deserving: Donald Fagen is one of a very few on my list.

Thank you for this post. It's good to hear / see things like this, so they are saved for those of us who want to know our heroes aside from the music they record.

Saw Snowbound on MTV… loved the song. That night headed out to buy the album. My brother said “you’ve heard ONE song and you’re buying the album?” 😂
Yeah. Steely Dan, man! Close enough.
One of my fav albums ever.

Tnx for posting. Kamakoriaid is a fantastic ride! My fav CD I just keep going back to. Great imagery "driving through the seasons". Future world a la Night Fly .Nice hearing Donald's own take on his vision. He has said he prefers the listener to draw their own ideas about his subject matter (see confessions video) - so this interview was a fun look into his head.

This interviewer is vastly ignorant of the incredibly creative world of Donald Fagen. I feel bad for Donald having to come down to such a low level to try and help this guy out. It's like a dish washer trying to interview Einstein.

True, but I don't think Donald could have envisioned some of the things the current administration is pushing, and/or turning a blind eye to namely Progressive, woke, Identity Politics based DEI, and Jew-hatred & Islamist terrorism support, crossdressed 'Anti-colonialism' and 'Anti Zionism'. I have a feeling he does not approve of either. And neither would've Walter.
