In this video I'm going to be doing street photography with a simple set-up of Lumix GX880 camera and a Lumix 12-32mm kit lens. I'm also going to tell why street photography is important to me and why I like it so much.

Nice to see you using the 12-32mm kit lens. I find this a really useful and capable lens. I don't take many street scenes but instead I use it mostly on holiday as it is small, light and versatile.

This was a wonderful video. It gave me some foundations about non-complicated photo gear and some practical thoughts about basic camera settings based upon the equipment I am using at the time. Thank you so very much!

I've been a wildlife and nature photographer all my "camera" life. But, lately, I've become fascinated with street photography. I love just walking around with a small camera (yay Lumix GM5!) and small lens (like the 12-32mm kit lens) and looking for things to shoot. It transforms how I look at a city. I mostly do this in San Francisco, which has endless opportunities for photos. As for settings, I usually choose Aperature priority. But I really like your idea of using auto ISO and setting the shutter speed at 1/250 in order to keep it from falling too low. Very helpful! I find your photos and your videos really helpful and fun to watch!

Thanks for the video. I’ve hardly ever done any street photography, but am planning to have a go. I’ll take my GX9 with the 15mm f1.7.

Such a great video to discuss what street photography is! The definition is never concrete but I agree with your opinion on street photography. Capturing every day moments, even in mundane situations, looking out for human subjects or anything that shows presence of humans within the frame. I also prefer smaller camera setups, it is so much easier to walk and not care about the size and weight of the camera. My setup for street? One camera, one lens of course. For now, 50mm (full frame equiv)!

Thanks ... I like your views on streetphotography ... I am looking for a new camera, the info on line is overwhelming but what it comes down to is exactly what you said. Cheers from not always sunny either Holland.

Thanks for another great video. For street I use a Pen F with 17mm f1.8 and 45mm f1.8.

Thanks for sharing this. I recently purchase compact cameras because I'm starting to explore and enjoy street photography.

thanks for the effort and the sharing. i very much appreciate your insights. for street, i often use either a ricoh gr2 which has a crop sensor but a fixed 2.8 lens or my panasonic lumix gx85 with the same kit lens you used. (i also use the panasonic 20mm/1.8 when i need a pancake and more light). thumbs up.

The Oly/Pany 14-42 kit lens is great for street... sometimes you need a little zoom for “across the street”

As I'm becoming more experienced, I find that I favour the GX80 and the 12-32mm kit lens at f5.6 more and more.

I enjoyed this video. I like my Lumix and pancake lens a lot. From what I see online, here in the USA Street is pictures of sleeping homeless people. Your pictures are lively.

My favourite street setup is my Panasonic GX9 with the Olympus 17mm f1.8. If I am visiting a park say with ducks and animals I will change the lens to my 25mm f1.7 to give more reach. Yes the 12-32mm is a fantastic zoom but because its slow I wouldnt use it much in winter; a lovely sharp summer walk around lens. I have to admit that the jpgs and exposure from my GX9 are so good that it is the only one of my cameras that I dont tend to use RAW; I always shoot RAW+jpg but always use jpg unless there is a problem. For me street means the street, I am documenting where I am and what I am doing; if I cant see where it is the photo is useless to me. They are mostly using a low glass prime at hyperfocal distances because i want super realism and pop. I call them snaps. Amongst the snaps I see photos I take seriously and these are my proper street photos. They are always hyperfocal, always cropped panaramic (usually either XPan or Anamorphic format) and I am looking for complex interactions within the groups of people in the scene. My very first panaramic street photo is my RUclips banner; A monochrome photo I took with my then new Leica X113 and it blew me away. I wanted more of this so now that is what I am looking for; photos with complex stories suggested amongst a complex of friends and strangers, life on the street in all its complex forms, I like crowds having fun. Have fun ;-)
