STUNNING E175 Approach and Landing Portland Maine PWM

Though I've flown into Portland (PWM) dozens, if not hundreds, of times in my life, I still get quite the thrill landing on Runway 29 on a clear day. From the right side of the aircraft, you can see gorgeous islands off the Maine coast, downtown Portland, the harbor, and Interstate 295, which runs right under the approach path. My local airport is KPWM and I knew about the harbor approach but never knew it was known for how amazing it is. Thanks for telling everyone about the approach and how wonderful it is. Hopefully more people will fly in either privately or commercially. Either way, it’s more content for my RUclips channel. Wonderful video!

Thanks for the video. I live right there and practice the "harbor visual" approach in flight sims. It's basically a fun, challenging "S" turn down the historic deep water Portland Maine harbor and the Fore River. Called "visual" because it is done during VFR conditions and cancelled during IFR conditions. Cancelled sometimes for other reasons like heavy traffic and some aircraft are exempt.

The Harbor Visual 29 is a great approach. This is the airport I learned to fly at - of course it only applies to turbojet aircraft. That said, the aircraft in this video is not flying the Harbor Visual approach. That was a straight in approach, potentially flying the ILS for some reason. The Harbor Visual would have made the left turn further north and come in over the channel in Portland Harbor and then as it crossed the bridge at the inner part of the harbor it would have made a low right turn to line up with the runway. The entire purpose for the Harbor Visual is noise abatement over the residential areas in South Portland. There's now even movements to get an RNP approach there because the residents complain about the planes flying over when they're on the ILS in bad weather.
