I own this S&W PC1911. It is incredible, from trigger to accuracy, it is on of the best 1911's I own. Way to go S&W.

I just acquired one, not sure I entirely love the sights, but that can be changed. So far it's a tack driver
I have experienced this with other Smith and Wessons. The problem ended up being weak springs in the magazines. Replacing the springs cured the problem.

That’s a badass gun. I’ve had a S&W 1911TA E Series for a decade now and have put over 10k rounds through it with very few malfunctions. Even using the cheapest crap ammo (Tula, Wolf) steel case a lot of the time. I’ve only replaced the recoil spring once in its life. It just keeps right on going. Good video.
Great channel guys. I picked up a blued Specialist from Keith's a couple years ago, and it's ran flawless except for a couple anti friction 8rd Mec-Gar mags I bought for it. They run fine in several other 1911s, but the DW doesn't like em for some reason.
I found a seller on eBay that sells unbranded Checkmate mags in bulk, so I picked up a bunch of 8 and 10rd mags and haven't had a single issue with them. The only difference between the factory DW mags and the unbranded, is there's no coating on the follower.

Great vid guys! The S&W 1911 Pro I recently worked with was fantabulous. Mags can be iffy - I have found the Cobra mags that you exposed me to to be super reliable, though I am also very fond of Mec-Gar, but have less experience with their 1911 mags. So many variables with a 1911 - especially new in the box.

I own more S&W’s than most folks… I’ve never had a mag problem like I’m seeing in your video. I’m going with a mag problem not a gun problem. I’d dyno those mag to see if some are weaker sprung.

I've never had good luck with Mec-Gar mags. I have 8 1991's from Sig, Colt, Kimber and S&W, they all run well until i use a Mec-Gar mag. I have FTF issues and lock-back problems when using their mags. Factory mags along with Chip McCormick and Wilson Combat seem to work the best for my guns. Ultimately, my top performing mags have been the Chip's. Anyway, great video, appreciate the feedback on the gun, i have been thinking about getting a S&W PC 1911.

yeah im guessing it was the mec-gar mags, ecspecially the 11rounder that caused that initial failure to feed. Also, new mags with stiff springs can be problematic when breaking in a 1911. Wilson ETMs or the Cobra large-caps. Anything else runs the risk of making any 1911 look bad.

good video, but I noticed one thing real fast. I have been test performance testing for over 20 years, the gun works perfect with 3 of the 4 mags tested at the beginning, the failure occurred on an aftermarket blued mag, yet instantly it is the guns fault??? I would love to see your test justifications where the blame is to the greater engineered unit instantly when a lesser engineered literally disposable unit stands untested on any other gun. To me this comes off as looking for issues in the gun, not finding the actual issue in a failure or true performance of the gun. I would love to see you demo some of my carry pistols that have never failed and see what flaws you can find. To me if a gun has never failed on me and I try a mag and it fails, then I test the mag on other guns to see if it is a mag defect, if it performs well, I retest in the first gun as the issue might have actually been a low grain error from the manufacturer of the bullet, that is a lot more likely than a gun defect when the gun performed with every other single magazine you used, or the mag needs to go in the trash. 1 load fail, okay, again, that was an after market mag, I am assuming all new, untested on other guns, straight out of the package, so I just do not see evidence to either failure being the gun.
A ton of people consider Mec gar magazines to be the best, they are in most cases. However with 1911’s they are not the best.
Regarding this “performance center” 1911 made by Smith&Wesson, it’s trash and completely inferior compared to all other 1911’s on the market at its price point. Another point, Smith&Wesson quality control is a complete joke.

I have the engraved e series's and it looks like a lot of time and effort was put into it very tight gun no slop in frame to slide and no rattle in the grip safety it was a little cheaper than my colts I own but it looks and feels better which one do you prefer the engraved or the custom shop
For the price point of that 1911 pistol, I would love to see it head to head with the Dan Wesson. I personally would choose the Dan Wesson because of how clean looking it is. It may be a better pistol for the money but, the Smith is well tuned also.

I use wilson combat mags 8 round with their square spring upgrade. No probs.
I have the shorter Commander size PC 1911 and it has been flawless so far. I was somewhat disappointed with a few surface blemishes on the Scandium frame though for this kind of money. My Ruger 1911 for about half the price is finished better but the S&W is far smoother and lighter. I also had a problem with the G10 grips coming loose after a couple 100 rounds. I tried Loktite but that just messed up the threaded standoffs and it still kept coming loose. I ended up replacing standoffs with some new ones from Midway and putting a set of Crimson Trace wood laser grips on and now the grips stay tight.

After watching this video, that 1911 has been percolating in the back of my mind. I have some E Series 1911s and love them. So, I rewatched this video and decided to get one. Appears to have really good build quality. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. Boy Sr. You have relit my 1911 habit!

Just regarding the MIM parts, I dropped my Kimber SS Target II 10mm and not only did it break the plastic mainspring housing but broke the MIM hammer.
It is back at the gunsmith getting the MIM replaced. The extra cost of a Dan Wesson or other forged stock 1911s is looking more & more like a good economical decision to me these days.
pinkiewerewolf I am so sorry to hear that. Thanks for sharing all this information as it will benefit all of the Subscribers. That is one of the main reasons why I do the Channel. Passing on good information of why to possibly avoid & what reasons to consider buying. You answered both questions here.

To add, the PC Pistol is awesome looking and it will take a little time to break in. I love Mec gar magazine. As well as Tripp Cobra mags. The Wilson are great but I think you would love the Cobra magazines. Have not been in favor of any 10 round mags. But I’ve run 10 round Cobra mags just fine. For your information Wilson just came out with a good looking 10 rounder. Also those grips do look great. I love VZ grips.

I prefer my Engraved E-Series it may be a Pro-Series not sure, but it is better then this particular PC 1911, The trigger, reliability, and felt recoil all felt better with the Engraved.... just a very good 1911 for a good price. I will not buy a 1911 without being able to check it out completely in a gun store first. Just my take on it. :) Beretta Sr.
Does you Colt Custom Shop 1911 come with a cheap plastic main Spring Housing as my Colt 1911 Rail Gun? I'm replacing it with a Ed Bear MSH on Brownells web site. $62. Can't under way a reputable company such Colt uses that. Excellent Video by the way from a long time subscriber.

I have both of those guns as well and let me tell you. The performance center is soo tight sometimes it fails to go into battery.

Love the all over, high polish stainless steel. Love the big, solid, no compromises sort of look and feel. Love the understated yet classy patterns machined into the slide. Love the fit and finish.
Hate the blue wood hand grips. WTF. Put some real wooden grips on it and it will be perfect. It's the pistol equivalent of the Colt Anaconda revolver.
The factory mags that came with your gun, will they go in with all 8 rounds loaded, mine want I have to take one round out before it will go in, may they need to be broken in, thanks great review
Indian Creek The ones that came with this Smith&Wesson went to 8 no problem. Not sure what to say on your except I would leave them loaded to 7 for a month or 2 and try again. If it is still really difficult to load to 8 call S&W and ask them to trade them out for new ones. Good luck.

I think it's a great pistol and very beautiful, but for 1300+ I'd go for M1A scout or socom or the AKV-9 and save up for extras.
To me it sounds like the failures are being blamed on the gun. But both failures were with aftermarket mags.

Have the gun. No issues with it other than at its price the sights could have been better.
Don't expect it send it back to S&W. My Springfield TRP never hiccuped not once

493john They are still Top Picks for me. I did not want to throw all of TR mags into the "test bed magazines" to be used in all of our 1911 videos. These mags were sent to us for all of these 1911 tests, and I was happy to abuse them during these test. I wanted to see how they hold up myself. Beretta Sr.

Fernando Garcia, funny you should mention wanting a Dan Wesson over the S&W Performance Center 1911. I have to agree. Not being a man of means, I was able to buy a new DW 1911A2 45 acp (a beautiful upgraded version of the military M1911A1) for an astounding price of only $1,182. Mild recoil, dead on accurate, and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Just never thought I'd ever own a Dan Wesson 1911. So never stop dreaming.

I've owned and shot Alot of 1911's in 35+ yrs of shooting... I personally think S&W 1911s are not so good with Alot of MIM Parts for the money and too many issues! If I had to buy one for this price level I'd go used Wilson Combat, Springfield TRP or even a Sig 1911 is great option! Nice video and Shooting Guys!👍

@@BERETTA9mmUSA I would say the most noticeable weird thing about the PT1911 is the bluing wear on the pistol, they come off and fade weirdly but speculation is probably due to the steel that brazil uses for their frame and slides

I would rather have my empty magazines in my pocket, so I can reload them, in a fight you’ll never be able to retrieve them. It depends what length of fight we’re talking about, some military battles last for hours.

Jeffrey Locke it doesn’t have ports in the barrel. It just has lightning cuts in the slide.
