Nicko really did a great job on this track. It sounds like it was all recorded on one take and it's not a short song by any means. He makes a mistake here and there but props to Martin Birch for keeping this take on the recording and not a more perfect take without the energy this one has.
Actually, I can hear some splices in the most random places like in the middle of drum fills (cymbals disappear from the mix out of the sudden, e.g. at 1:45 and 4:04). Don't get me wrong, splicing song sections is a normal thing and doesn't take anything away from Nicko's talent (I'm a huge fan of his myself). I'm just surprised that considering the limitations of tape in terms of mixing tracks, they decided to go bold and make the cuts in the middle of a freaking drum fill! That's what I call having some guts right there!
Hearing Clive Burr on NotB got me into drumming and the production on Powerslave elevated my passion and love for the instrument even further. Big up the Irons!!!
I like the boom from the floor tom. Sounds better than all the rest of the toms. There is so much going on. Even the straight two hits on the bass drum followed by the snare drum hit has bouncy little inflections on the snare and the ride cymbal fills every possible vacant space in the sound. The other thing I like about Nicko is that he likes all his cymbals to sound a little bit different from each other. So it's like they each have their own note and not just percussive.
Awesome! Thank you for putting this up! Now I know why there isn't any lowend in the drums on the recording. Sounds like a ton of room mic in this mix. Maybe overheads. The floor tom or maybe it's the 16" rack tom, is tuned a bit too low and is buzzing a bit. If they tuned it up just a touch it would have sounded perfect. Can't hear it in the mix!
most 'isolated tracks' i listen to on youtoob, you can still hear the scratch guitars track bleed thru ,especially on quieter parts or drum breaks, but this one no. Great job bro!
Loved 2 things I noticed listening to the drums alone: the concert toms sound and the track cuts (1:40, 3:35, 4:02). Well done, man! BTW, any chance of some Clive Burr tracks? :) Thanks!
I won't make a separate video for each drum track. The multitrack of this song (including drum tracks) is available on my Patreon page - the link is in the video description and on the main page of the channel.

Love the sound of those Paistes
The kit sounds good. The tom sounds really stand out. Great performance by Nicko as usual...

That snare Sound!!
Incredible!
Excellent
Drums sound so much better when there's no click track guiding the drummers timing, that's just my opinion.
Classic heavy rock groove!
this id is gold 😊

@@haywoodyoudome a xenofobic in the room....
Well as maiden fans and if you play.. Nicko has to give a 'swing' feel to this beat to match the groove in Adrian's riff on guitar for this song.
Wow. They should have just released it mixed like this. Killer power.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤️
At 1:45 you can hear nicko vocalizing with the fill
😂😂👍👍
I want to play drums as Niko, 4ever Iron Maiden.
Fuck yeah he Is the master of drumms!!!
Never realized the drums are dazed and confused solo section…
Roomy!

I was like number 666.
Thumbs down. I’ll never understand. Great player.
I still think hes overrated
He doesn't much on this song. Listen to some other songs. His foot is amazing!
Very long song, too repetitive.

you are stupid.... extremely
Obviously not a Maiden fan. Also aren't most drum tracks repetitive? If memory serves, it's called a 'beat'
Go and listen to the complete track.
what a strange statement...
