    Glad they brought this model back. I actually bought a spare pair a couple of years because I liked them so much but the originals still going strong. The rubber rand makes all the difference trudging through the mud or snow and super cosy in the winter. I still prefer the Tracker ESC grip though, especially on slippery rocks or ice as the SG lacks surface area unless it has something to bite. I’ve used them for light winter mountaineering with some micro spikes and just about warm enough with a thick pair of merino socks. Do you know if this model can be resoled by revivo?

    • @OwenJackson
      @OwenJackson  10 месяцев назад +1

      hey Paul, thanks for watching and checking in. You're way ahead of the curve with a spare pair of the original models, big respect. I'm sure the rand is polarising, but agree with you, such a practical addition! Agree the sole of the ESC offers so much confidence. I can't comment specifically, but would hope that Revivo have a cleaver way of replacing the bonded sole once the inevitable end of life looms.
      what do you think about the coulrways? Would you be picking Obsidian or Acorn?

    Could you please help me with more exactly explain - what material is inside? It is fleece? how thick is the fabric? Will it be hot in them, in ordinary socks at a temperature of 0 degrees? I would like to take universal ones, but in our winter it can be 0 or -20 degrees) thanks in advance ❤

    • @OwenJackson
      @OwenJackson  9 месяцев назад

      hi Kristina, on the tongue there is felt. The felt material is about 11cm down the tongue and 0.5cm thick. I believe it is synthetic opposed to animal wool.
      Around the upper ankle of the shoe is wild hide leather.
      The lower ankle cup is mesh-spacer fabric.
      They have a thermal insole which will aid in retaining some of their heat.
      They have offered great water proofing and warmth in single digit temperatures. The temperature is continuing to drop here, but is unlikely to hit -20 C in the UK. I will continue testing and will deliver more content to come.

      @@OwenJackson hi! So my vivo barefoot tracker winter SGs arrived Thursday, they're beautiful boots! I wore them around the house and decided to keep them and I oiled them. Saturday we hiked into the Adirondacks on a super slushy, icy trail, lots of snow melt and several times I accidentally stepped into mud that was quite deep and my feet were dry and comfortable for those 5 miles, almost until the end. I did feel a little rub on my Achilles but no abrasion. I forgot to mention that I did a 3 mile trail run the day before backpacking and they were great. I love them, they're excellent: warm, mostly waterproof, extremely comfortable, grippy soul .. I had to get a size 40 men's because my feet are so wide from being barefooted most of my life ... I love my Joe Nimble trail runners but I think Vivoba is becoming my favorite shoe ... Best wishes!

    Love to see the video. I'm thinking about getting these ones or the Tracker Decon. The only con with decons for me is they're not waterproof. Otherwise they're probably the best looking boots I've ever seen. I love the military style colorway, just phenomenal. On the other hand Trackers Winter SG are not too shabby looking either. Bit expensive, but then again, these are fully waterproof.

      Absolutely agree. The Tracker Decon do have a great profile. I love the JJF colour way. There are some awesome colour combos available 🤩 and the wool leather combo is a great match.

      I can help a little with the pricing, use the code in the description.
      I guess the final decision comes down to your personal use case. The Decons have great all weather use and have withstood a lot of hammer from me, but for the extremes, Tracker Winter SG excel

    • @wineku
      @wineku 10 месяцев назад

      @@OwenJackson Well yeah, given the climate conditions here, Tracker Winter does seem like a little bit better choice. Tho the winters here are not that bitter or frosty. Quite the reverse, If it's not raining then the snow is melting. It's always wet and muddy. You either step into a puddle or a snow slush every other step. It's just a shity weather almost all year round. XD And don't get me wrong, I don't mind getting myself dirty. I do enjoy that, but I already have primus trails II for that. Lets just say there are some instaces when it's a blessing not having to clean your filthy feet every time you walk inside and take the shoes off. XD Decons seem to be very soaky the moment you go deep enough to where the wool starts. Even so, I think I'm gonna see it through with my own eyes. Or feet. XD

    The only thing that concerns me is the sole. The old boot had a great Michelin sole to it. This one looks like it's going to be worn really quickly, and they were just not allowed to use the Michelin anymore. The tracker I love, and after 3 heavy dubbing sessions with a hot hair dryer, they are pretty much waterproof for most situations. The lugs seem too far apart to cope with the point loading around the ball of the foot. I use my boots for 1.5 hours every day, 365 days a year, in woodland and hill walking. I can wear the sole for that short period of time, so they end up costing me one-third of their price every year. That's a problem for me. I love the boots, and I am not going back to using normal skinny shoes and boots. My knees are the best that they have ever been.

Such a shame that if I want a winter boot I have to buy these guys! UGHHH..so crazy expensive! I wish there was a way to buy an insert (not just a sole) that could go in the tracker forest esc. I know they are not FULLY WATERPROOF but would save me from having to buy a winter boot. just get my pair. To say it is a winter shoe is a joke- there is a little felt in the upper tongue and a Aluminium foil in the insole. After two days I can also say it is not waterproof. Same as my Tracker FG from last year. Also the sole is more slippery as the Michelin soles- not good in wet conditions! So way to expensive for what you get!

    @OwenJackson, great review and perfect timing! I have an older pair of Tracker FG and Tracker ESC from last year, so these would really be for very cold weather for me.
    Are these lined throughout? The older version seemed to have lining all around the ankle, but latest images on the site show lining on the tongue/front side and really can't see anything inside the boot.

    • @OwenJackson
      @OwenJackson  10 месяцев назад +1

      hey Irfan, thanks for checking out the video. You're correct that the 'fur' lining is on the inside of the tongue. The main body of the boot feels warmer than the Tracker ESC, and that warmth was more noticeable than with the ESC for example.

      I'm excited to try out the Tracker Textile as well. Hopefully, they'll be back in stock in a couple of seasons 🙏 The SG grip on the Tracker Winters is great for soft ground use. I personally use them for mixed terrain or when transitioning from urban to rural areas. If you primarily walk on firm ground, the FG sole of the Decons might be a better choice. All the mentioned boots are capable; your choice should depend on the percentage of time spent in each type of terrain. Opt for a shoe that suits your most common scenarios but still offers some flexibility for different terrains ✌️
      I highly rate the Tracker Decon FG2, as a phenomenal all-round boot. The look awesome in JJF colour-way. Check out the video here: ruclips.net/video/TH0rJDrgjiY/видео.html

      Thanks for watching and the question.
      The fit of the Tracker Winter SG has been consistent with my regular sizing.
      Purely my impression, so feel free to follow your intuition. It sounds like you could benefit from going up a size in the Primus Trail II to mitigate the toe touching issue. So 46 could be better, so too a 46 in the Tracker Winter SG.
      I feel like the ESC feel a size larger, even in a comparable sizing. I agree the ESC size-for-size come up big.

      My apologies. I've only just seen your reply. I haven't experienced this hard part of the cuff as mentioned, and i've been wearing my boots for 20+ months.
      The Tracker Winter SG are more plush for sure, more comforting and warmer. Their waterproofing may not be as breathable in warmer countries, the ESC would offer more innate breathability.
      They are both great boots, but bear in mind they have their own specific use cases.
      ESC - extreme traction, wider toe box, water resistant, innate breathability of the natural leather
      Winer SG - water proof, cosier lining, different boot cut, more wear resistant, Rand [ boot protection]
      The deciding factor would depend on your priorities and specific use cases. Both boots share many of the same abilities so the specifics lie in the application and your needs.
      hope that helps a little. let me know if i can help further

      They look great Owen, and I love the black / black colourway for proper dirty use! However £210 is eye-watering for a sole that isn’t stitched on unlike the Tracker Forest ESC. Are they a similar height to the Tracker II FG? I tuck my trousers in to keep the bottoms clean for the full Rambo muppet look 😂

    • @OwenJackson
      @OwenJackson  10 месяцев назад +2

      I understand your concerns regarding the non-stitched sole. I’d hope the clever designers and team at revivo have factored this in and can replace the bonded sole 😊
      I think the Rambo tuck-in is a strong look. You know you’re off in an adventure when the trousers get tucked in ⛰️
      The ESC ankle stands about 2cm taller, with the last eyelet being clear of the upper of the Tracker Winter. However, the finish height of the tongue on each boot is comparable.
      If I can help any further, please let me know. Happy adventures Anni ✌🏻

    • @OwenJackson

      Thanks for the question. I don’t see why you couldn’t wear microspokes with these, although as yet I haven’t tried yet. The high rand line [protective layer] on the boot will probably help buffer any additional wear caused by putting the spikes over the top of the boots 👍

      Hi Patrick, to extrapolate on your first question, it’s a general question and I gave a quick general response. If you’re spending the predominance of your time on firm ground, and it sounds like it is for 20k steps a day, I would recommend a boot that is designed for firm ground. Consider something like the Tracker Decon FG2 [video here: ruclips.net/video/6J4y9Higaq0/видео.html ] or Tracker 2FG. The Gobi Boot or Scott Boot are a stylish formal / workwear boot which are deigned for urban environments. I've recently ordered the Gobi Boot and they look and feel amazing [unboxing and first impressions soon]

      Hey John. A lot depends on the circumstance you intend on wearing them.
      Here’s a recent video I made [prior to testing the Tracker Winter SG]
      Top 3 Barefoot hiking boots | These are best [vivobarefoot]
      ruclips.net/video/6J4y9Higaq0/видео.html
      The Tracker FG ii are a great boot and one of the most popular in the VIVO range. They’re great for firm ground use. And personally I love the brown [bracken] leather and red lace combo.
      The Tracker Winter SG are probably overkill for the causal daily use. But are great for multiple environments especially more extreme conditions
      Ultimately it’s up to you how you wear your boots and no one can tell you what’s right for you. I personally like a chunky, utilitarian boot that I know will support my adventures in all terrains and environments 🤙🏻

    Again with that shallow duck shaped toebox ruining the aesthetics and comfort of an otherwise wonderful shoe. Vivo need to change their last this is just sad.. Also no stitched soles? Why?! A step backwards from the ESC models. Last thing you need is the sole coming unglued on your expensive super cool hiking boots..

    • @OwenJackson
      @OwenJackson  10 месяцев назад

      Hi Aggelos, thanks for watching. Personally I don't have a problem with this profile and fits my foot shape despite my high instep and high arch.
      I agree that the ESC composition with the stitched sole appears superior for end of life. Plus the profile of the ESC is more accommodating with a greater volume in a size-for-size comparison.
      Which are you favourite boots and barefoot footwear?

      @OwenJackson  9 месяцев назад

      Hi Jani, thanks for watching and the comment. Cost is definitely a factor, the cost implications mean that R&D, quality of materials, environmental responsibility and craftsmanship all benefit. I believe their pricing is competitive to equivalent manufacturers on the market.
      I can help a little with the cost using the discount in the description, or keep an eye on the sales where you can grab a better deal. Or Revivo, buying preloved and revitalised products.
      I also understand that one of the greatest values in life is getting immersed in nature, and that is completely free. Wishing you all the best.
