The Magna FG were my first Vivo shoes. Extremely comfortable…my favourite barefoot shoe without a doubt. I walked a long way in mine and wore out the sole in probably about three months (95% concrete pavements, some forest walks). So while Vivo talk up the boots’ urban credentials, these might be best for forest walks only. I still wear mine and still will…and bought another pair. Can’t beat that comfort!
Yea, concrete will chew up a FG sole, which is really better for varied boulders, roots, etc. Funny enough, their thin 4mm soles last much longer on roads.
Your channel is a great resource, Andrew! and the ranking you do on your site is a compound catalogue which doesn't exist anywhere else on the internet I think. Thank you so much! Btw I just purchased the Magna FG you talk about in this video. Much love from Poland!
Hey, glad it's all useful to you! Basically, this entire channel started as an "audience of one," because I liked barefoot shoes, but couldn't find a good resource for them. (:
@@diverg3 Hej! Trzeba by je zabezpieczyć jakimiś stuptutami raczej. Pozdrawiam!
I do like Magna FG, but unlike majority of Vivos, they need a break in period, because of the stiff leather (which has a thin lining). And I regret, that Vivobarefoot does not sell these shoes with 2 pairs of insole, one for winter and another one for summer (fortunately I have several pairs of spare Vivo insoles of various purposes, so I can switch from winter to the sportive summer ones, with holes in them (I don't remeber the name, and they seem not to be available anymore), that have same thickness; I do this for all my Vivo mountain boots).
Yea, that's the catch-22 of a more protective upper. Def a good idea to have your own insoles to customize as needed, per season, as most brands only give you one.
Hi Andrew, thanks for everything (following you now and then). Question: what do you think about walking/running barefoot and having forefoot-problems. I have a bursitis under my left foot and (might be the cause) a sagging foot according to my doctor. Advice: wear arch supports. I have bad experience with them and don't believe it will really help. Summary: the doctors don't advise barefoot shoes if you have feet-problems
No, def don't wear arch support, unless it's just a short term fix in an emergency (like you can't walk at all). They only make your feet weaker and cause more shock on the rest of your body. Low arches are ok as long as your arches are strong. Reducing milage temporarily and getting rest would be the two more important steps. Also, I'd try to run more on trails, if you're not already, because the monotony of roads leads to repetitive stress injuries. Much more variation on trails. Finally, it sounds counter intuitive, but a thin 4mm shoe will create much less pain (especially on roads) than a thicker 5-10mm shoe, because more flexibility allows your feet to come down gently.
Hello Andrew, i really like your videos a lot. I have a silly question, i just got the tracker decon 2 from vivobarefoot, but i don't know how to lace it properly 😅 it's my first boot. If you can show us a way to lace the boot well and secure and be able to take them off without unlacing it at the same time i would be grateful
A good rule of thumb is to lace the bottom snug (but not night) and then lean forward in the boot and finish the last 2-3 eyelets. This creates some extra room for movement and taking them off easily.
Above 70 F they'll start to get warm, like any leather boot, but the thinner wool collar does help with breathability compared to full leather boots, like the Tracker FG, which don't breathe much at all. For hot weather I'd go with the Primus FG Knit. ruclips.net/video/W4wikuqPHZ0/видео.html

@@AndrewFolts This shoe with that sole. Make it happen, Vivo!
Yes , same here. The Magnas were my absolute favorites, but after about 3 years, the profile is completely gone.

Cześć! Jak ci się podobają te buty? Do jakiej temperatury lub śniegu można ich nosić? Pozdrawiam :-)

BTW, just uploaded a video guide on lacing. (:

I noticed your magna leathers are not shiny like the ones on vivos website. Are they different?
The "Magna FG" is matte and the "Magna FG Leather" is a more shiny "premium" leather.
@@AndrewFolts oh interesting! Thanks!
Do these get hot during the summer?
