    Having enough toe space is absolutely and totally crucial. Once I got used to have this roomy freedom feeling in my Vivo Gobis, I literally couldn't go back and had to get rid of quit a bit of other barefoot shoes that didn't deliver on that particular point.

    Great. I just bought these and I have a place in Croatia and go there every summer. Good to hear they handle the rocky areas well. Thanks.
    By the way - instead of your other light athletic shoes, try Xeros. Much wider toe box.

    Thanks, Lars! Great review. I have the Primus Trail FG which has the same sole as the Magna's. I have found on one of my shoes the sole is coming away from the upper where the ball of foot bends putting the greatest stress on the join between upper and sole so I agree stitching would definitely help here. I've also found the FG sole to be incredibly hard-wearing. The Primus Trail FG have a really nice lacing system which might help with the excess lace issue you're having.

    Great vid. I just recently bought these. It would have been good if you took the insole out of the shoe and showed how much room there was rather than just your foot next to the shoe. I originally thought i would want more room like you do when i was looking to buy my first barefoot shoe, but i found that a size bigger was just enormous so my feet are real snug in these.

      @larsmaxfield  3 года назад +3

      Thanks for the feedback! Just added two photos in the description comparing my foot to the insole. You're right; that does a much better job at showing room.

    Great review. I really love my Vivobarefoot boots and shoes. What do you use to clean and waterproof them? So far I've been using Pink Miracle products and find that they work pretty well on the Suede like leather.

      Hi, Did you get them for your trip? My order is on the way. I'm getting them for the Pacific Northwest weather where I live - wet and cool most of the time. And considering to take them to northern Vietnam trip in late fall and yes for walking/trekking in countryside and mountains. It's on sale for women's style rn. 🙃

      @@MộtMình_VẫnVui I think I will end up bringing 2/3 pairs of shoes. One pair are dressy loafers that lay flat and weigh nothing. I think leather will be best for where I'm going but I won't ever use thick leather where I live in the south. It's too hot all year round. If I bring canvas/mesh I will definitely need two pairs. Good to know about Vivos return policy! I hope yours work well and fit perfectly 😊

    Thank you for your review. After a month of waiting mine finally arrived!
    They look sharp and the sizing and color was true to advertised. However, the place that the shoe folds, near the tow causes pain and blistering. I am very disappointed in this and will probably be returning them. Has anyone else experienced this? Do I need to break them in?

    • @ourclarioncall
      @ourclarioncall 3 года назад +2

      I’m no expert and don’t have these shoes but I did hear a guy on a video say there is a break in period where they don’t feel good but after that they are great
      I know from cycling that people say brooks leather saddles are super comfy as the leather moulds to your body , but the break in period , the seat is like a rock and very hard and uncomfortable and there’s no way you could believe that same saddle will become super comfy but it does

  • @SoftTofu123

    hi! thanks for the video. Ive been eyeing on these for quite a bit. Did you follow Vivo's sizing method? I followed the method for my Primus trail, and they fit perfectly with light weight socks. I plan on wearing mid weight socks for magna trail, and I wasn't sure if I should size up. Primus trail was a bit tight with mid weight socks, and im assuming they used the same last.

    • @larsmaxfield
      @larsmaxfield  3 года назад +2

      Good question! I have little experience with the Primus trail, so I can't say how they compare with the Magna's size.
      I personally go for larger fits with Vivobarefoot shoes for a couple reasons: 1) it means my shoes still fit when my feet lightly swell during long walks and hikes (which is to be expected); 2) it gives my toes greater space to splay and allows them literal wiggle room for when I'm sitting; and 3) it means I can wear thicker socks in the winter.

    • @larsmaxfield
      @larsmaxfield  3 года назад +1

      At 5:19 I talk about how well they hold up against water. In short: Certainly not waterproof, but comfortably water resistant as you'd expect a leather shoe to be.

    I don't really think it's acceptable for shoes marketed at £170 to come away like that after only a few months of use. They're also marketed as highly water resistant which can't be the case if these adhesives are coming loose. V disappointing

  • @ourclarioncall

    Thankyou for the vid, I’m am really interested in these
    So did you go for the same size as you would with your other shoes?
    And one of the biggest things I’m interested in is how waterproof and breathable they are . It doesn’t really say much on the website but maybe i never looked hard enough .
    If water got up near the laces to where the wool bit begins would it get wet inside ? Or is the wool area waterproof ? Sorry if I’m confusing !
    Maybe I should just ask , in how deep of water would you be confident stepping into ?
    I heard another reviewer of the non leather version say his were waterproof for a while then it wore off and he would recommend the leather and wool versions instead
