A simple tip on how to sound proof your room.
Hi RUclips family. I would like to share with you why I need to sound proof my room here in Singapore. Here in Singapore, there are a lot of complains when it comes to noise and other musical sounds. Through this video, you might have an idea on how you can sound proof or minimize sound from coming out from your room.

This is what I’ve been wanting! A lot of videos on these panels are about limiting echoes in the room and I’m like nooooo I need them so people stop complaining about me being loud when playing video games 😂 thank you for this!
Thanks for dropping by. All the best to you. 😁👍🏻
Have you found that these work for you? I dont want everyone outside my room to hear me
What you need is sound isolation. these panels disperse sound and reduce reflections and hence echos. So I learned that sound isolation methods are completely different to sound absorption and sound reflection reduction. Towels apparently work best in reducing all of those.
@@eingoluq what kind of towels?
@@jl8686any. old or new. obviously, the fluffier the better, but you can use any really. just remember to at minimum double it up.
im so happy i found someone that actually showed results, ty. *kiss*
Thanks for stopping by 👋🏻😁
Guys do not try the double sided tape you will just waste your time base on my experience after few hours it will fall down use a Insolation adhesive spray
Wow thanks Binson for the advise.
According to my experience, the most effective setup should just be closing the air gaps at the door. If you remove the sound panels at the wall, the overall noise isolation should still be the same.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
Best household item to use to close gap?
Thick foams and blankets.
Will it accumulate dust?
@@DoubleSaltedEggYolkShark yes it will. Just use a controlled speed vacuum cleaner when it gets dusty. :)
Hey!, what u are doing is acoustically treating a room, not soundproofing it. Sure those foam panels will absorb some high frequency sounds, but will do little to actually sound proof ur room.
Thanks for your comment. This is also the request of the owner of the house so I need to comply 😁👍🏻
I am a local who is going to buy their first guitar but was anxious about neighbor complaints. Glad i came across your video :D subbed
Thanks for stopping by. What kind of guitar are you getting?
Love the laugh and positive energy haha :) thanks for showing how it sounds on the outside! I can never understand all the decibel and hertz talk or read the meters 🥴
Just trust your ears. Thanks for stopping by Taylor
I've done a lot of research on soundproofing
And the truth is that when you're improving the sound in your studio you'll be dealing with two different issues
1.) Sound reflection. Sound within the studio that bounce the wall and back into the mice.
2.) Soundproofing. Sound coming into the studio from outside or sound created in the studio and going out.
Sounds or frequency produced outside is one thing and mechanical sound created by your structural is another issue.
The foams on your video are meant for sound reflection (sound bouncing the wall) not for soundproofing.
And even for sound reflection, studies shows those foams do very little.
Thanks for the information.
What can you recommend so i can soundproof my wife's boyfriend room ?
@@xljx8304 ahhmm you try this.
@Luis Gonzales, Oh yeah, this is a very interesting comment. Actually, I want to practice violin & guitar in my appartment room without bothering my neighbors, so in this case, I should buy equipement for soundproofing not sound reflection right?
What can you recommend in this case because i nearly bought the same equipements as the guy from the video just before reading your comment.
What do you advice to avoid bothering the neighbors (aka soundproofing )
@@adriancambier7464 the foam reduces the power of the sound a little bit, another type of material is mineral wool or ex Rockwool brand to be specified, but if you need total dampened wall, apply mass loaded vynil or double the wall, created some room within the room. dont forget raised the floor too!
Thanks bro I'll buy them cause in my room I play games and my voice is pretty noise
you are welcome bro :)
did you buy it? if so, did it block out the noise? i’m asking because some other videos on youtube say that their isn’t much of a difference.
@@nathanpark5975 I need to know too lool have the Same issue 🤣

Singapore may 31 2020. That's my bday. ✌🏾🤟🏾
Wow advance happy birthday 😁👍🏻
Should make before and after 😁
Blaire, I have a small livingroom and my neighbour is always complaining about my music being too loud and feel I am always walking on egg shells. Would you think that using these tiles on the wall that seperates us would work? Cheers my man!
You can try. For my case, it did help. :)
Too bad you live in Singapore I need a roommate who loves to sing and play the guitar like me!
This is not sound proofing .. it's stopping high frequencies from bouncing around. You need much thicker absorption material attenuate even mid frequencies from bouncing off your walls, never mind bass which are passing right through. Sound proofing requires density or air gaps-- ideally a combination of both.
Thanks for the suggestion. Budget is also the main concern. 😁
Thanks I was looking for a video where someone test this from outside the room now my mum can hear my music and me talking to my friends!
You can try this 😁👍🏻
Can or can’t lol
I’m trying to soundproof my apartment so I don’t bother my neighbors below with my music. that hard floor you have will absorb heavy bass and it will travel through walls. I suggest laying down heavy rugs Or carpet on the floor
Thanks for the suggestion. :)
Sounds coming from the 2nd floor roof can I use it on my roof surface instead of walls ? What should I do ? 😔
You can try and observe.
I have noisy neighbor, will it work vice versa? or is it just other people hearing you?
You can try :D
So I've got a question, I'm using the polyester door draft stopper and door seal strip, yet didn't prevent noise coming from outside. What should I do. Help please x
The sound will still go in. Did you put some foam at the back of the entire door?
I got a question. Are you singing the SWV classic jam "Weak" here at 5:27?
Song: ruclips.net/video/013SAyWRWLc/видео.html
If you are, you just made the whole video even better 🙌
Hello Andrew, you are correct. One of my favorite songs during the 90s. 👋🏻😁👍🏻 Thank you for noticing.
Sir while practicing my high vocals ,i always receive complaints from neighbours... Will it help ..pls comment...
yes it helps by reducing high frequency. the lower ones are more difficult to block and those panels are for sure not enough.
if you want an advice, its better for you to create those panels using towels instaed of sponge, because they absorb more sound.
like i saw on this video right here ruclips.net/video/pABvTWSxOes/видео.html "How to Make High Performance Sound Absorption Panels for $5" by diy perks. i highly raccomend you that.... let me know man! hope i'm been helpful!
if you still want to buy those panels, i suggest you to DON'T buy the cheap ones; instead go for the better performance high end ones.
It helps a bit bit add more thick curtains.
Thanks for sharing.
This time I will do it manually with the help of Woodglut designs.
My family complains a lot about music gaming and other shit. Plus they are nosey, does this work if I want to isolate the voice in my room and don’t want them to hear me outside. If not what can I use!?
You can try. You can also add some thick curtains. :)
I had 2 questions I was wondering if you knew the answer to
1. Would this stop sound from leaving the room
2. What brand did you buy? Where they just simple acustic panels from Amazon?
1. It will lessen if you put it on the areas where there's a thinner materials and wide openings for sound to go in.
2. Any foam brand as long as it is thick. 1inch or more. You can get it in any Shopee store.
@@BlaireBustillo Thanks man, I appreciate it👐
Hi Blaire, does it reduce the noise coming from the next room?
In my case, it helps especially from the door. The sound from the other room sounds softer inside. 👍🏻🙂 It also depends on how loud the sound.
@BlaireBustillo Thank you, Blaire :)
We Got Some Progress, The Door Is BLACK 😁🔥🦾😂😭
yehey :D
your way was just to reduce sound reflection
I think when people say that this just stops reflection and doesn't sound proof, the are trying to say it's not sound proofing by the technical definition, which would be to block sound from leaving or entering a room; but instead it stops unwanted sound inside the room from traveling around inside the room and creating noise that you might not want in studio recording.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Trevor :)
Sadly i heard that foam just reduses the echo in the room but wont sound proof.
Thanks for your comment. It's ok, at least it helped me in a small way.
i dnt care abt sounds from my room but sound from outside my room. so i use earplugs :D
That's a brilliant idea 😁😁😁👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for this, I’m changing my room to a studio as well and your video helps a lot!
You're welcome. Good luck on your installation. :)
Acoustic Foams are used for Echo & Acoustic Curtains are used for Soundproofing SoundProof-Curtains.me
You should consider changing the title of your video because acoustic foam (reducing sound bouncing in a room) isnt the same as soundproofing (reducing sounds from outside entering a room). PS: you have a lovely smile :)
You can try. I haven't experience any loud sound outside.❤️👍🏻😁 thanks for the compliment 👍🏻😁
What I’m confused now. You say it’s not the same but say the same thing in a different way. Sound bouncing in and outside entering. Anyways that’s not what I want, I want to isolate my voice and my room and make sure no one hears me outside! Would this work and if not what do I need?!
@@alikhalil9633 Think of it this way: a band rehearsing in a studio vs living near a school. One is trying to keep the sound from disturbing the neighbours whilst the other is trying to muffle the sound from the school runs in the morning (random example I know but it’s a good one lol). Sounds like you’re after the former so yes, this video would help you
Hello our apartment has really thin wooden walls. Really thin that I can hear my neighbors fart. Lol do you think this will work wooden walls?
I haven't tried testing with the fart 😂
Pag nag lagay po ba nang ganito sa loob, hindi na din maririnig yung nasa labas na ingay?
Ma lessen pag nasa mga areas na doon nangaling ang sound.
I think U will save more blue tack if u just put all the foam on some paper board or recycle box then paste on the wall😅
That's also a great idea :)
Hi! Thanks for sharing the tips on soundproofing the room. Could you share where you purchase the foam? I would like to soubdproof my room too!
Thanks for watching. I ordered it on Shopee. 👍🏻😁
A carpet would help reduce noise too! Pretty awesome build
Thanks for the suggestion. :)
seriously?
Acoustic Foams are used for Echo & Acoustic Curtains are used for Soundproofing SoundProof-Curtains.me
Are there any professional service providers who do these kind of arrangements in Singapore? I suck at DIY stuff.
I think there are but it's costly for professional service in room acoustic setup :)
Does it really work. Planning to buy thingy like that to do it on my room. Because of my bullshit gossiper neighbor however,I'm hesitant because it'll cause me money and not sure if it'll work. (please share some insight's) thanks.
It really depends on your situation there.
Can i put that inside of my speaker box ???
Yes you can. It is still foam. Is it a custom speaker box?
It looks ugly, I hope they have a better design
I agree but it still serves the purpose. 😀
Thanks! I just needed to learn how to install the soundproof insulation. Your video helps better after going on a few videos.. 🙄..
You're welcome. I hope you were able to manage your installation. 🙂👍🏻
Sir, It's looking a bit horror 😂bt afterall that's essential!!💯
heheheh :D
Hey man did this stop noise from entering the room as well?
Sound was minimized 👍🏻
This is great... something I can learn
I read that using acoustic foam doesn't soundproof your room. It is mainly only for acoustic treatment but that does not even do much. What do you think so far
First it is for show (if somebody asks why so noisy), next it will only minimize a little :D But better than nothing as what I've demonstrated in this video.
Do you know the music for this video?
I'm sorry I don't remember anymore. It is from the RUclips Audio Library.
Your room don't have window?
Have. I have curtains on it. 😁👍🏻
I want to reduce the sound coming from outside, are those foam helping u do that
For me my concern is my sound going out but for your end you can identify the part of your room where the sound can go in. Then cover it also with some thick blankets.
so you cant hear them likewise?
It depends on where you put the panels. 😁
Hi is this applicable for KTV studio room? you know customers like it with a little bit of echo when they use karaoke.
I think it is applicable. Echo or Reverb effect is generated from your audio mixer microphone effects. Increase the effects on your microphone if you want more echo or reverb. 👍🏻😀🎸
@@BlaireBustillo thank you so much!!
There’s no way that did anything other than reduce echo somewhat in your room. That is what those tiles are designed to do. Stopping sound is a completely different story. I’ve been on this for two years. At this point, bang for buck, no-toxics or fiberous floatasm...moving blankets. At least 8 layers helps minimize, 16 layers approaches “soundproofing”.
What do you mean by toxics
@@DejaBilal by toxics, I mean like chemicals. Say you use ceiling tiles (which are excellent). They will off gas butyric acid when they meet humidity. You’ll feel mildly ill. Another example is wood products like sheathing or osb. They can contain formaldehyde. Not good.
@@johnc6042 got you man
@@johnc6042 hi John, What are some ways I can soundproof my room, could you explain both an expensive and cheap routes?
@@bboyg1 he said a lot of layers of moving blankets
It work or not?
Your soundproof look thin
Have you watched it?
where can we buy blue tack??
im looking for something to used holding this panels. thank you
Bluetacs can be bought in any local shops. Try searching online if you can not find in your local stores.
Using weather strips rin sir around your door jamb and a rubber door sweep at the bottom of you door para ma seal yung door at walang air leaks. I was also considering using thickening the door for more mass by using drywall/mdf/plywood. I actually wanted to try getting an edrum kaso problema rin sa hdb eh di kaanong kakapal yung floor slab need pang gumawa rin nang floor riser.
Salamat for your tips. 😁👍🏻
ayy bro, can i use this to block any sounds from outside??
I also came here to ask the same question! Have a loud heater outside my window and the noise/vibration combo wakes me up multiple times a night.
You can try putting it but try to add a double reinforcement of taurpauline.
@@BlaireBustillo good idea, i'll see what i can do bout it, thanks man :D
sir Blaire, can you give me an advise how you keep those foams clean? because i understand that it's like a sponge that would absorb also dirt and molds, how do you clean em? or do you ever clean them at all?
If there's dust on the foam, you can use a vacuum cleaner to remove the dust. :)
whatever this guy is high on, I want some of it
kaya ba nyan magabsorb ng tunog ng speakers balak ko kasi ilagay sa studio room para hindi mainis yung kapitbahay
Maka reduce siya basta from speakers. just not too loud when you play it.
I've got a problem with my tenants are very noise can I put this foam in my wall?
You can try. It depends on how loud they are.
Is this foam will block the noise coming from the outside? Coz our neighbor are so noisy and I can't concentrate in my work. Hoping for your response Thanks
You can try. Add tarpaulin for additional materials.
How much it cost sir
Thanks for sharing! My new BTO house rooms are so echo-ey! This guide helps alot
Have always wondered how to attach the panels without them dropping off
I've used BluTac. You can use it without damaging your walls.
Are this for real? What you've done is only absorbing some few high frequencies and do nothing for soundproofing at all. That thing is barely heavy. Soundproof needs mass/ density.
Yes but it is very expensive to have a full soundproof according to your standards. :D
@@BlaireBustillo dude, I didn't set the standard. Your neighbors do. Anyway, I wish the best for your soundproofing. You'll learn along the way
can i place them out of my door? like on my walls but outside of my room? will they still have the same effect and less noise visible from my room??
you can try. it also depends on how loud the sound would be. :)
does this work for cancelling noise from outside?
It depends on the loudness of the sound.
Not at all, you need something heavy and dense
such a nice guy lol
can singapore allowed to get high?
I wish you recorded the sound on the other side before and after
You can try if you are planning to install this. :)
Where did you order it from, my son has the radio loud it bother my neighbors the wall are thin.
If you are in Singapore, you can order it in Shopee or Lazada. In US probably Amazon. 👍🏻👍🏻😁
After watching this video i bought my from Amazon in the US and they worked great!
This is not sound proofing...this is acoustic treatment. They are two very different things
thanks for your thoughts
Not every inch covered?
Not every inch. :D
Am tired of my annoying neighbor complaining about me. Please how's it working. Is it that worthy of a try
You can try. It really depends on how loud the sound is.
Dude,so after installing all that do you hear the noise from outside or it's quite inside n outside your room?
The sound is lesser and damp.
Back in prison, reminds me of that padded cell 😮
😮
do u hv the before and after u sound proofing? just wanna see how much changes it does
Only after the installation
Are your housemates also Filipinos?
Yes JC
My down stairs hear my TV loud, can this help me?
You can use a thick carpet to suppress the sound
What about the floor? Your neighbour downstairs cant hear you?
I haven't received any complaints from them yet.
How much did this cost you
Around 150SGD
Hey there, may i know if this works in stopping noise coming from outside?
It really depends on how loud the sound is and where you put the foams. You can try and see. My setup is just based on my experience.
Pinoy po kayo?
Yes. Kumusta Lily?
Just thought i would put this out there, but this is not sound proofing the room. this is actually just acoustic treatment to reduce REVERB...making the room sound more dead and sure this might give the illusion of a quieter space in essence it should be as less sound is bouncing around how ever if he was having problems with people hearing him through the wall....this issue would still continue... to sound proof a room you would have to spend THOUSANDS of dollars investing into the structuce of the house.....he said it him self at one point ACOUSTIC PANNEL not SOUND PROOF pannel
great video on acoustic treatment though !
The acoustic panels will still help in reducing the decibel level in the neighboring wall. It won't completely block out the sound but it will reduce the level of noise.
I agree with your thoughts. It will cost you much. But this is not my place, I'm just renting. At least minimizing a few db would help it. 😁👍 Thanks for stopping by. Appreciate it.
I agree Gary. Thanks. I didn't receive any complaints as of the moment. 👍😁
Blaire Bustillo have you gotten any complaints since? Or have the panels you put up worked pretty well?
Why does he sounds young and old at the same time?
Which one do you prefer? Lol 😁😁
Thanks Blaire for the how to and before after. This is a great idea! A neighbour plays the violin, a few plays the piano, including myself. If I can hear them, I sure they can hear me! I want to be considerate.

I want to ask, Can the noise outside (your neighbour noise and car sound ) enter into your room after soundproofing the room ?
It still can be heard but a lesser. It also depends on where you place the foams. 😁👍🏻
