As much as I wish I had sent my dog to Brandon for training before bringing him home ruclips.net/user/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU I am so grateful for this down-to-earth, practical guide. His training techniques and tips really work. Thank you as well for dedicating your life's work to rescue dogs, and to rescuing those of us who want the very best for our 4-legged family members.

This is why a strong positive relationship with your dog and knowing your dog well is THE most important thing in dog training. Knowing what your dog loves was the key factor. Brilliantly done! Love seeing this in real time!

The reason George probably has a positive association with his food bowl is because it makes him happy. There’s a lot of shelter dogs who will carry or sleep with their food bowls because they associate it with food, which makes them happy, so they see the bowl as a happy and positive thing. Dog psychology 😭❤️

George has made so much progress with the baseballs! It's so true that it's harder for dogs outside with distractions than inside the house. It's still great to see the fails, but George was so responsive to your verbal corrections. It was so sweet to show your wife-she's beautiful! When this series ends, I will probably cry. It's so neat to see such a great transformation in a shelter dog. I'm trying to get my dog to leave rabbits and it's almost impossible! I hope to try some of these things with him. He's not very food motivated.

  • @lobeckdr

How serendipitous was it that you drop his toy ball and feet away is a lost baseball. That was an amazing moment! The level of fixation is crazy, but he picks up on things so fast, you can't help but be impressed with him. Let's hope whoever adopts him will follow suit and continue to train and work with him. He is handsome, smart & a perfect mascot for the breed.

This is EXACTLY what I'm working on with my current 1yr pup😭Training wise it's frustrating but watching George "fail" occasionally is reassuring. Stepping backwards is also just a natural part of training.

Hi Zak and Bree. This is my favorite video so far. As a trainer from long ago this session showed how to bring back the request level if George missed the perfect cue. I realize from Bree explaining to me that you only have about 3 weeks with George. This episode was Extremely impressive of how to train with such a high distraction as the baseball. It all made sense and was easy to understand how you shifted when George got off track. He is doing absolutely amazing.
Has he found his forever home yet?? Thank You guys.

My little guy just turned 1 year old last week..he’s such a good boy now thanks to YOU, Zak. I’ve had him on your training regime (mostly) since 8 weeks..There’s always room for improvement but he has exceeded my expectations. He is smart (mini aussie doodle), so understanding the way he thinks and operates is what really helped me communicate with him and truly build a friendship/bond. Thank you Zak..it truly is life changing stuff.

Your videos have helped my son with training his very first puppy. He has a solid plan going into the first 24 hours and then what training we want to work on his first week home. Hopefully it all goes well we pick up our puppy in 4 weeks. We have mostly adopted senior dogs in the past so they were usually pretty well mannered and we were able to train what we needed, but my son has been begging for a basset hound or chihuahua puppy so we went with a basset hound. It's been 13 years since I've had a puppy to raise so its going to be a fun adventure. George is such a good dog and I hope it inspires more people to see the wonderful side of pitbull type dogs.

Thank you so much for this series! I have an adopted pit bull who struggles with impulse control around animals (to the level that George struggles with dogs). We live in a very natural area so she has to make improvements! Using your method we’ve been starting inside. We taught her how to play tug and how to let go - she is similarly motivated by toys. Now she can still and stay while her favorite toy is tossed across the room and come to me instead of the toy! We even had a few moments of seeing her walk towards the toy, think about it, and come to me instead. I can see her piecing it through. Thank you so much for this series, really. Our dog was having trouble finding a home because of how strong she pulls when she sees an animal. Now we can give her a great life and train her up!

5:33 Ah, the classic "Temper Tantrum!" My SDiT, Shasta, a 1-year-old Border Pit, does that when she becomes hyperfixated on a distraction (ESPECIALLY if that distraction is FOOD!).
I've been religiously following your journey with George, and I've been using both them AND your videos from training Inertia to help me with getting Shasta heading down the path to Service Dog success.

This series is so encouraging for me. Our mini schnauzer puppy is almost 7 months now and honestly, I’m feeling some burnout, and I’m always worried that we’re “behind” on his training (we aren’t). Seeing George’s ups and downs helps me remember that all is not lost when we have an off day or week; it’s just part of the process. It gives me energy to come back at it and be patient.

I look at the progress George has made, and it's amazing. I have a pitbull cross, Sputnik, he's near 4 year old, who could easily pass for George's cousin. And these dogs are incredibly smart. Sput blows me away, with the crazy smart stuff he does. Keep him mate, you'll never find a better dog, not ever. Rules are made to be broken. With regard to him chasing those squirrel things, we don't have them in Australia, he's, in his soul, a terrier, and chasing stuff like that is in their DNA. Sput chased birds, a lot, but when he realised they were too quick for him, he gave it away. I can walk Sput anywhere, even off leash, and he sticks to me like epoxy glue.

  • @jessicasnaplesfl7474

SO FUNNY! When you dropped 6 balls and a Frisbee, then told George, "LOOK AT ME", then "STAY", were you aware that GEORGE very briefly glanced back at ALL THE ITEMS AND WHERE THEY WERE before looking at you? This was in a split second.
George quickly CHECKED THE POSITION of each item as it was dropped, but in his final glance, he swept over ALL OF THEM as if to verify that all positions had been accurately committed to memory. I doubt I'm anthropomorphizing - he really did that.
Did George develop or enhance a natural ability to memorize the location of important items because he lived on the streets for a considerable amount of time? He needed to remember safe as well as dangerous locations to prioritize his actions to help him survive.
George has an exceptional memory and he USES IT! This could account for his picking up training so quickly.

You are doing a great job as George, Zak! I've been doing the similar training with my husky lately. It has been a learning process for my dog and me and I am enjoying it or trying to enjoy every moment, on a good day and a bad day. I think we should really give more credit and support to owners who would spend time training their dogs. After all that's why we have dogs in our lives. We build relationship with them. At least that's what I've learned from my dogs.

Bark box does have really great treats that are made and sourced in America and the toy are great quality as well. If they give you a treat that your dog can't have or doesn't like they will send you a replacement. My two Maltese were to small for the chews that came in the box even though my boy was a super chewer and needed the bigger toys. I just called them and they sent me something new and I gave the chew to my cousin for his dog. I am excited to get a pup box when I get my new dog.

I want George. He reminds me of my Theo. I lost Theo last year to osteosarcoma. Both Theo and George look exactly the same with their brindle markings. Theo was a pure bred Staffordshire that I rescued from a shelter. He had the same intense focus on something he wanted, typically a squirrel. It’s so much fun to work with a really smart dog, they have so much presence. Pitbull type dogs are just the best. George has come so far, great work.
