I’m glad to see you training a small dog, I live in a community where many people have small dogs and they have not done anything about training them. It’s very frustrating as I work hard to keep my young Collie Making good choices when so many dogs that we pass in our community are completely unschooled
I love how these series show us real time training and real situations. I've seen other youtube dog trainers only saying what we need to do, not showing how, or giving examples with already trained dogs; and it doesn't actually help to go through difficulties, like potty training. But with your videos, I feel I can actually learn how to act and understand my puppy during these scenarios. Thank you Zak and Bree for all the effort, keep it coming!
I think you demonstrating humor when “one “ INCLUDING trainers make errors is a HUGE skill people don’t realize is EXTREMELY helpful to prevent frustration. Such emotion on the part of both participants has a big impact on the results and everyone’s attitude towards training.

Potty training is always easier said than done, lol. Nova only had about 5 accidents when I brought her home at 3 months old. Mochi, on the other hand, came to me at nearly 2 years old and had so many accidents in the house the first month. But I somehow potty trained a 16-year-old blind-deaf mini poodle...

Of course, there's editing - they can't include every minute of every day - people wouldn't watch it, especially the mundane times. Zak is showing not only training sessions, but the "oops!" moments that everyone with a new puppy or dog experiences, and how to manage them and move forward.

My puppy is 14 weeks, things are improving but sometimes we're exhausted and have setbacks especially in the housetraining and biting areas. She's not my first puppy and I've had several foster dogs so I was starting to wonder what's wrong with me! It's nice to know even for an expert everything isn't always smooth and easy!

We have had larger dogs (well, huge dogs) for so many years. Now we have two small dogs (11 pounds and 8 pounds). We have found it was much more difficult to house train the two small ones than larger dogs. Other people have said the same thing. Don't know why that is, but that's been our experience and the experience of many other people. So if you have a little dog and having an issue with house training, don't despair. They will eventually catch on!
It took my dog forever too! I did not think she was ever going to catch on. I found that she had a preference. She likes rugs. I broke her of that with frequent walks. Also I feed squirrels in my back yard now so she is eager to go out there to smell new smells! Potty training little dogs is soo hard! But soo worth it!
Me and my wife got a puppy a week ago and he's had very little accidents 4ish in 8 days I say ish because one my wife put him in the crate for the night without taking him out first so that kinda didn't count. And another he went at the back door wile I was putting on jacket to take him out so he knew to go outside I just wasn't fast enough. So all in all he's been really good for house for house training

You truly are great with these pups! I've just discovered you yesterday. I was trying to find tutorials on bonding with my senior dog but your puppy videos have already helped so much! Both of my dogs learned three commands in one day! They're both blind and deaf, 16 years old and were both fearful dogs. They've made a ton of progress in just 24 hours. Thanks!
I don't think I've ever seen my puppy watch the TV so intensely than her watching this episode! Especially when Zak says YES I think she thinks it's for her.
Have always given my dogs treats when they go in an appropriate area then repeated "go potty" followed by "good dog". Eventually they all go on command. Some people will say do you want to have to have treats all the time to which I respond, for the convenience, Hec Yeah! Most dogs will eventually go on command for just a "Good Dog" and maybe an occasional treat reinforcement. Very handy in bad weather or at hotel rooms with specific dog potty areas or before getting into the car. I just wonder if other people do this.
Treats totally backfired for mine lol. She would fake going (squat but not going potty) or interrupt herself to get the treat. So we stopped doing that after a few days. I just used the verbal encouragement of "good girl, potty outside!" helps her get the idea now too when we are in a rush.
We popped into a cafe today and our little pup weighing 13lbs. fell asleep in my arms. She slept on even though I ate a sandwich and had a coffee. Once she's on my lap she totally relaxes. Our bigger dogs were always on alert, just keeping an eye on everything, such a difference.

We got our pup about a month ago so we’re a few weeks ahead of biscuit, but we did the same thing when teaching crate training! In the beginning he would fall asleep in our laps and we’d put him in his crate once he was settled. We did the same when he got up in the night, and over the weeks made that a shorter and shorter ritual until now he sleeps through the night and self settles. So proud!
She did such a good job at the park! We have a small dog that is high energy and leash pulling is definitely an issue. She is just so excited to explore the environment and it’s hard to avoid accidentally reinforcing the tugging with her 10 pound body. Great tips to see how you are managing that with Biscuits. Side note: Inertia’s face during that peeing accident Biscuits had in the house is hilarious

I would recommend all new dog and puppy owners to watch you. I just got a puppy but was unsure where to start training or what method to use. Thanks to you now I feel confident and less anxious as a new owner.
Not me, just a couple of people who are in very busy careers and don’t have time to be consistent. I find that’s most likely why they had prolong potty issues. As a friend, I won’t judge them. They have doggy doors. For what ever the reason the longest I heard is 2 years. Yes, I thought Oh, WOW! I can say they have turned out to be really lovely dog pets. My friends love them.

Just before you started training enertia my cousins got a visla, it was their first dog they called it banjo. and every time me and my brother visited them 70% of the words they said to the dog were just no no no no ALL THE TIME and now i realised that its better to reward the things the dog did well and not punishing when the dog did something wrong! :)

We have a 13 week old Australian Shepherd Husky mix. I took your advice and training with the meal. I can't thank you enough for that advice. She is so responsive to the training. She was getting a little bored with the same five tricks so I've been teaching her how to Hi-5, pound it ,dance, bow, big speak, little speak and Whisper.
Brilliant cue for getting your dog to come, while playing fetch. I’ll start using that immediately. My puppy loves playing fetch, not so much coming when called.
hahahaa! it happened to me also! my puppy was afraid of the dark, so I decided to play with him until he gets really tired. of course i fell asleep. I woke up 3.00 in the morning and puppy was sleeping next to my pillow. he has been sleeping there ever since (he is 2,5 years now)😄
I went to puppy classes at local Petco, and I feel like I wasn't taught as much as what you've taught on your channel. My rescue dog has pretty bad fear aggression, and I wish I corrected her earlier to prevent this.
🤔Ummmm, I'm rethinking a puppy. Maybe an older yet young dog...say, one to two years old. I know, I know. It doesn't mean it'll be any less challenging. LOL Looking forward to seeing Biscuits progress. Keep 'em coming, guys.

Definitely got the real world stuff happening! 🤣 Every puppy will be different, some are gonna take a little longer to toilet train, some might struggle with separation, it doesn't mean that you don't have a smart dog, it means that YOU have to get smarter! Brie's comment about the mental health of the puppy owner at the end was really interesting and important. That might be helpful to talk about in a future video. Raising a puppy can be really stressful and exhausting, especially if the puppy is also waking at night. You also have to adjust to having someone else living with you and your whole routine changing. It's something that can be unexpectedly hard for some people.
I am newly married and currently going through chemo, got a cute 4 month ols puppy and it is totally stressing my husband out with the potty training and eating my books after three weeks. I love the videos!!!!
Hey, I just recently discovered your channel and have been putting your methods to practice with our 13 year old Siberian husky, Sadie. She is a counter surfer and struggles with “leave it”, “look at me”, “sit”, and “come when called” (although I do suspect that last one to be a hearing issue possibly) She is completely unmotivated by toys but very motivated by treats and her food. In just one short week, she has started looking at me in the eye, leaving an item if I tell her to, and will sit for me and come to me about 50% of the time when I call her. For 12 years, She would only ever do these things for my husband for some odd reason. 😂 Just wanted to say, I love the videos, they are great to watch and to learn from! I’m curious about your dog, Indiana, I saw her in a few videos and haven’t seen her again. She was so sweet! I’m loving biscuits! What an adorable little pup!
You are doing well Bree, don't worry😁 potty training really takes time for Biscuits and I feel like she's a toddler still learning her basics for choosing spots to poopy. I think that she poops inside the house because of security while doing her business. She feels safer there instead of doing it outside 🤭 Hopefully it won't take so long.
FINALLY. I know this was filmed a while ago but I wanted to comment so bad about the harness being on backwards in the first two episodes 😅 but then I thought I was going crazy and that maybe it WAS on correctly. I’m glad it was fixed though 😂
Potty training my dog was much more of a time investment than it was a challenge. As soon as I figured out when she would need to go it wasn't long until she would only have about 1 accident per week and and she was trained about 6 months of age.
I seriously think Biscuit is going to be part of the George household before training is done. Bree looks just so comfortable with Biscuit in her arms and visa versa. I love Biscuit.
I was taught that for toilet training you don't want to interrupt the puppy mid poo or wee when they have an accident - as this can be interpreted as a punishment/scary thing by puppy making them not what to go in front of you and start hiding their toileting. I love you guys and understand that human habits/nature kicks in sometimes and we make errors, but I'm surprised to see you both doing this to Biscuit.
The only time I have stopped it was right before they even peed with an excited hey let’s go to snap them out of it and get them out the door but I agree that you shouldn’t interrupt them if they are already full in the motion
I always got bamboozled by my small puppy too! The amount of times my husband and I had to ask “is she sitting or peeing?” Was way too much to keep track of!
I want to share with you our experienc about potty training with our sweet three-month-old puppy: First of all, it is important that the access to the place where the puppy will pee and poop is comfortable and easy to reach, therefore it is not recommended at all to use a bathtub or a box, they learn very quickly to be independent. Dogs also pee to mark their territory, they don't always empty their bladder all at once. That's why we put flat pads (you can also use a towel that you can wash for reuse) in several areas of the house. We don't have carpets at home, it is recommended to roll them up for the potty training period if you can. Our puppy poops after eating or before the next meal, and pees after drinking and napping. It is very helpful and effective to follow the puppy's routine, which changes with growth. For example, dogs that eat more often because of potty training (getting snacks) will poop more often. Dogs are very attracted to carpets, towels, bedding, blankets and they should be out of reach so they don't pee and poop on them. Please do not put food over the pad or where you want the puppy to learn to poop and pee, dogs don't do that in the area where they sleep and eat. Our puppy sometimes poops in hidden places: under the table, bed, sofa, behind a piece of furniture but most of the times she poops on the pad surface or close to it - our puppy learned it very quickly. 🐶💗 In the following months, after the puppy has received the three vaccinations, we can also teach her to poop and pee outside. We are currently dealing with biting and eating anything the puppy finds on the floor, the difficulty is mainly outside the house. Dang! I have had to use a house leash to quickly get my puppy to redirect potty to the proper place. I see her sniff and grab the leash and we RUN to the yard! 🏃♀ Can't wait til you focus on puppy biting soon!
yeah, i hate it when i see people outside walking their small dog and literally just....pull it along without even looking when it wants to stop somewhere, or wanders off, and not just once but like, for the whole stretch of the street where i can see them. just makes me wonder, what exactly do you have your dog FOR, if not you two to interact, and to teach them how to o things safely and in a way that doesnt (seemingly) annoys you everytime you go out with them? i dont get it. i cant have a dog right now, or if im unlucky ever, but man id absolutely love to spend as much time as needed with them to grow that bond and train them to be a dog id like to have. ugh.

Have always given my dogs treats when they go in an appropriate area then repeated "go potty" followed by "good dog". Eventually they all go on command. Some people will say do you want to have to have treats all the time to which I respond, for the convenience, Hec Yeah! Most dogs will eventually go on command for just a "Good Dog" and maybe an occasional treat reinforcement. Very handy in bad weather or at hotel rooms with specific dog potty areas or before getting into the car. I just wonder if other people do this.
Treats totally backfired for mine lol. She would fake going (squat but not going potty) or interrupt herself to get the treat. So we stopped doing that after a few days. I just used the verbal encouragement of "good girl, potty outside!" helps her get the idea now too when we are in a rush.

Also, I relate to these potty training woes. I had this puppy for 6 weeks and he will still surprise me with accidents at the weirdest times.

We popped into a cafe today and our little pup weighing 13lbs. fell asleep in my arms. She slept on even though I ate a sandwich and had a coffee. Once she's on my lap she totally relaxes. Our bigger dogs were always on alert, just keeping an eye on everything, such a difference.

We got our pup about a month ago so we’re a few weeks ahead of biscuit, but we did the same thing when teaching crate training! In the beginning he would fall asleep in our laps and we’d put him in his crate once he was settled. We did the same when he got up in the night, and over the weeks made that a shorter and shorter ritual until now he sleeps through the night and self settles. So proud!

She did such a good job at the park! We have a small dog that is high energy and leash pulling is definitely an issue. She is just so excited to explore the environment and it’s hard to avoid accidentally reinforcing the tugging with her 10 pound body. Great tips to see how you are managing that with Biscuits. Side note: Inertia’s face during that peeing accident Biscuits had in the house is hilarious

Not me, just a couple of people who are in very busy careers and don’t have time to be consistent. I find that’s most likely why they had prolong potty issues. As a friend, I won’t judge them. They have doggy doors. For what ever the reason the longest I heard is 2 years. Yes, I thought Oh, WOW! I can say they have turned out to be really lovely dog pets. My friends love them.

Just before you started training enertia my cousins got a visla, it was their first dog they called it banjo. and every time me and my brother visited them 70% of the words they said to the dog were just no no no no ALL THE TIME and now i realised that its better to reward the things the dog did well and not punishing when the dog did something wrong! :)

We have a 13 week old Australian Shepherd Husky mix. I took your advice and training with the meal. I can't thank you enough for that advice. She is so responsive to the training. She was getting a little bored with the same five tricks so I've been teaching her how to Hi-5, pound it ,dance, bow, big speak, little speak and Whisper.

hahahaa! it happened to me also! my puppy was afraid of the dark, so I decided to play with him until he gets really tired. of course i fell asleep. I woke up 3.00 in the morning and puppy was sleeping next to my pillow. he has been sleeping there ever since (he is 2,5 years now)😄

Brie's comment about the mental health of the puppy owner at the end was really interesting and important. That might be helpful to talk about in a future video. Raising a puppy can be really stressful and exhausting, especially if the puppy is also waking at night. You also have to adjust to having someone else living with you and your whole routine changing. It's something that can be unexpectedly hard for some people.

Hey, I just recently discovered your channel and have been putting your methods to practice with our 13 year old Siberian husky, Sadie. She is a counter surfer and struggles with “leave it”, “look at me”, “sit”, and “come when called” (although I do suspect that last one to be a hearing issue possibly)
She is completely unmotivated by toys but very motivated by treats and her food.
In just one short week, she has started looking at me in the eye, leaving an item if I tell her to, and will sit for me and come to me about 50% of the time when I call her. For 12 years, She would only ever do these things for my husband for some odd reason. 😂
Just wanted to say, I love the videos, they are great to watch and to learn from!

You are doing well Bree, don't worry😁 potty training really takes time for Biscuits and I feel like she's a toddler still learning her basics for choosing spots to poopy. I think that she poops inside the house because of security while doing her business. She feels safer there instead of doing it outside 🤭 Hopefully it won't take so long.

Potty training my dog was much more of a time investment than it was a challenge. As soon as I figured out when she would need to go it wasn't long until she would only have about 1 accident per week and and she was trained about 6 months of age.
I seriously think Biscuit is going to be part of the George household before training is done. Bree looks just so comfortable with Biscuit in her arms and visa versa. I love Biscuit.

I was taught that for toilet training you don't want to interrupt the puppy mid poo or wee when they have an accident - as this can be interpreted as a punishment/scary thing by puppy making them not what to go in front of you and start hiding their toileting. I love you guys and understand that human habits/nature kicks in sometimes and we make errors, but I'm surprised to see you both doing this to Biscuit.
The only time I have stopped it was right before they even peed with an excited hey let’s go to snap them out of it and get them out the door but I agree that you shouldn’t interrupt them if they are already full in the motion

I want to share with you our experienc about potty training with our sweet three-month-old puppy:
First of all, it is important that the access to the place where the puppy will pee and poop is comfortable and easy to reach, therefore it is not recommended at all to use a bathtub or a box, they learn very quickly to be independent.
Dogs also pee to mark their territory, they don't always empty their bladder all at once. That's why we put flat pads (you can also use a towel that you can wash for reuse) in several areas of the house. We don't have carpets at home, it is recommended to roll them up for the potty training period if you can.
Our puppy poops after eating or before the next meal, and pees after drinking and napping. It is very helpful and effective to follow the puppy's routine, which changes with growth. For example, dogs that eat more often because of potty training (getting snacks) will poop more often.
Dogs are very attracted to carpets, towels, bedding, blankets and they should be out of reach so they don't pee and poop on them.
Please do not put food over the pad or where you want the puppy to learn to poop and pee, dogs don't do that in the area where they sleep and eat.
Our puppy sometimes poops in hidden places: under the table, bed, sofa, behind a piece of furniture but most of the times she poops on the pad surface or close to it - our puppy learned it very quickly. 🐶💗 In the following months, after the puppy has received the three vaccinations, we can also teach her to poop and pee outside.
We are currently dealing with biting and eating anything the puppy finds on the floor, the difficulty is mainly outside the house.

yeah, i hate it when i see people outside walking their small dog and literally just....pull it along without even looking when it wants to stop somewhere, or wanders off, and not just once but like, for the whole stretch of the street where i can see them. just makes me wonder, what exactly do you have your dog FOR, if not you two to interact, and to teach them how to o things safely and in a way that doesnt (seemingly) annoys you everytime you go out with them? i dont get it. i cant have a dog right now, or if im unlucky ever, but man id absolutely love to spend as much time as needed with them to grow that bond and train them to be a dog id like to have. ugh.
