Hey there! I appreciate you posting. Kinda weird to mention, but I’m Byrds great grandson. Evelyn Bolling Byrd was my grandmother. We called her Bomie. She was an amazing woman. She’s passed, but it’s nice to hear her voice again. We for sure miss her.

@@benjantzen8910 There are many items and research regarding Admiral Byrd at The Ohio State University. The papers of Lisle Rose, consultant on this documentary are there. He was my father and an historian. I hope this gives you new opportunities for information.

I think the isolation at advance base camp during an Antarctic winter really affected him physically and mentally: possibly more than he anticipated. I'm not really sure what was truly accomplished with this isolation trip.
Thanks for posting this video of admiral Byrd. I enjoyed it.

Admiral Byrd was a real hero. A brave soul. I wish could read the true accounting of what he really saw…
I have no doubt he did what he said he did…

I spoke by shortwave ham amateur radio four or five different times. Sometimes the man I spoke to we're under the ice for months at a time and other times they were standing out watching the generator freeze up.
One man described to me refueling with ice cold fuel and noted the necessity to sweep the generator clear of snow every three or four hours.
The ham radio operators "down there" welcome to my contact and occasional message passed off to a family member. Being 20 years old and playing hero to the man under the ice was a thrill for K4VUD.

I hope that what I saw on the other Byrd Expedition which they showed Cattle and I also was told that Horses were taken to that Freezing Continent, because COMMON SENSE should tell you that those animals would NOT SURVIVE THERE, THEY WOULD FREEZE TO DEATH IMMEDIATELY.

Didn't he discovered that hole in the Antarctic, that went inside the Earth and was surprisingly Troical in nature?

Don't quite agree. A rich family only opens up more opportunities

I’m pretty sure that’s what she meant, basically it’s WAY better than being poor and left with NO opportunities.

If your dad's an alcoholic, he holds very high standards for you, and you're taught to be the absolute best and you want to go out and answer the unanswered questions, discover the undiscovered, make a life and a name for yourself.
You can't please your father, you prove you deserve the praise you don't get. You achieve much more than others but you can't stay put. If you avoid the mistakes of your father and become yourself, you can shed that relationship in a lot of cases to avoid going home to be asked why your B+ wasn't an A.
But you know you can't go home.
You tough things out, stay late, volunteer for more. You weren't encouraged to choose weakness or complain.
You tried and tried because others wanted you to succeed and believe in yourself in those days.
If your family was wealthy, it meant you are sure of having your needs met and school or starting connections can be good, but the alcoholism can make the Son do odd things to escape it if that's his temperament.
This man was taught that he could.
He must have had a great mother who believed in him.
Not someone who solves his issues with money.

42 men on two little planes?

    • @benjantzen8910
      @benjantzen8910 Год назад

No. Only 4-6 per plane. 42 men went and were dropped off with planes, gear, provisions, etc…but typically only 1 pilot with 3-5 other men on a plane at one time.

Why in Heavens name are they putting Cows on that ship? They are NOT going to survive in that Freezing cold. I think that is extremely stupid ! NO Common Sense used there.
