Interesting video, but it always surprises me how these Shackleton documentaries seem to hardly mention Frank Worsley. If not for Worsley's navigation abilities and seamanship in the lifeboat "James Caird" none of them would have survived. Shackleton certainly deserves his place in history for holding them all together, keeping their spirits up and making the decisions he made, but in the end it would all have been for nothing without Capt. Frank Worsley's amazing seamanship. I always think that should be more recognized than it ever seems to be.

My father was part of the ANARE group and spent a year at Mawson and Davis in 1969. We lost my Dad April 2023 and watching this makes me remember the many books he had collected over the years about Shackleton,Mawson and Scott.
Great watch, and I reckon it’s time for me to start reading about these courageous explorers, along with my dads written memoirs.

One man among just under 2 billion people that populated the planet. From one country with the resources and ambition. This one man assembled an expedition to a place only a handful of people even knew existed. He and his crew accomplished their goal, lost almost everything and through the crews knowledge and his leadership survived.
No woke agenda, no toxic masculinity, no pronouns, no internet, no save the planet agenda.
Just pure wanderlust and determination to do something memorable that would be talked about for hundreds of years.

That the British kept on with man hauling and couldn't bear to run down and eat their dogs is endearing if a bit foolish. But it is in line with the Anglo-American love of dogs.
That oates walked out into a storm to die because he knew his comrades would not leave him otherwise shows great humanity. In wartime such an action would get him a Medal of Honor or a Victoria cross.
