One for each armpit... perfect! 🥶 I carry my DeWalt fan everywhere in the summer. Work, outside jobs, business meetings, it is always with me. It starts slow then sweeps up with 18 indented increments. Perfect for just enough in quiet situations. Their newest model last year they removed the AC plug socket, seeing the Ryobi and Ridged having one, this will put them ahead.
Take heart, this Michigander is living in Texas and we’ve already had a week of mid-90 to 100’s already. I’m praying for 70/80 degree weather. 60 would be a god-send!
I'm on the Michigan/Indiana line and we've already been in the 90s down to the 40s and that's in less than 7 days with cloudy to sunny to downpours. In other words normal spring Midwest weather😎
The Ryobi has like 1 million mounting options. You can set it on a table, you can set it on a chair, you can set it on a bucket, you can can set it on the floor… 😂 Oh well, I’m not in the Ridged line yet, so I’ll probably get the Ryobi version.
Don't forget, you can bungee it to a table, bungee it to a chair, bungee it to a bucket, bungee it to the floor (with optional floor mount bungee kit)...
I have the old Ridgid and it still works strong after lots of work abuse after 3 years. I bought the newer version as its 670 cfm over the older ones 450 cfm. But the design and cheap plastic made me return it.
Yeah, I looked at the new one (as reviewed in this video), but I prefer my 2 previous generations. The power's in the back, the control nicely centered in the front. Not sure why they changed it.
Hey Flint that fan it's really good I like it a lot! Really cool it keep cool for good it's better that the first fan that rigid has 2 gen fan it's well worth it it cool! I like it a lot it's nicely!!
FANtastic overview bro it really BLEW me away! I have the original rigid fan and I like it. Even though the Dewalt hybrid fan is pricey it’s still the best 18v, Makita 40v XGT is quite an upgrade over any of the 18v options!
Great comparison as always Clint. I install and repair garage doors. They should definitely incorporate a magnet on the bottom to mount to steel. Keep up the great content! BTW, high 90's in NE Florida.
The new one pushes 40% more air, but the design is nicer on the old one, IMO. Same mounting options I believe, of which I've only ever used one - sitting on a surface.
Hi Clint Mate the start of your video had me in stitches mate, couldn’t stop laughing so beeeeeep funny You think it’s bad where you live, come over to where I live in England it’s beeeeeeping freezing 🥶 brother
This is a cool video. Was blown away by the difference in the same parent company product. I’m a fan of my Milwaukee M18 one. Which starts on low to high. Also you think that the weather there is crazy. Going to be in the 90s already here in NC
i mean technically the handle on the top is a mounting option so to speak. Since you could hand the fan from a rope, cord, something. Why would. I dont know. but its an option nonetheless.
That rigid is using a potentiometer. Not the same as ryobi. However ryobi should be low to high but I have high velocity fans that are high medium low. And household fans that do the same.
Every fan from my childhood had speed control like the Ryobi. Hell even the A/C I used to this day works that way. I don't know how that became a thing, but I'm so used to it that it blew my mind a little that you pointed out how weird it was for a fan to go from off to high speed.
Clint I’ll take my milwaukia m18 and his baby brother the new m12 that is more portable, smaller to fit in attics or basements so you can take it to the places you need it the most and when you get there you can use the the spring loaded clamp to hang it from a floor joist or find some metal and it’s really strong magnets will hold it in place all day then the cherry on top is it’s 360 degree head movement so you get the most air possible! Then the chocolate to cover that cherry is the battery gage to let you know that you better hurry up and finish or whip out another m12 battery. But if you have 6ah battery that won’t happen for a very long time! I take mine everywhere on forklift in the heat of the desert not sweat feels like I’m cruising with my windows down that cool refreshing breeze from such a small but powerful unit!! Funny that is the same thing my wife says about me!! No wonder I like it so much and I keep the m18 at home n take it camping with me!
It may be an industrial thing but all the fans in our machine shop start on high.. Maybe ryobi is simply saying they are more industrial than rigid.. kinda like a Ram 3500 commercial showing it can tow more than a ford 4500. - classic!! Keep up the good video. Little internet fun on vga is good...
The new Ridgid fan seems like a step backwards, like it's only to make it more like the Ryobi and cheaper to build. The Gen5X has a LARGER Fan Blade than the new one. The Gen5X max CFM is lower but since the new version uses a smaller fan, that likely means it will not run as long with the same battery at the same CFM. I thought you brought out a new product to improve it? The main complaint has been airflow on these. If they wanted to improve that, they should have "increased" the size of the Ridgid fan (not Decreased it) or upgraded it to a metal blade or something. I'll keep the Gen5X, I'm starting to think the new version was just made to be a cheaper version (shrink-flation).
I actually like the ryobi 40v battery clip. If any 18v company went to that 1 clip style...I might have to change over... unless it's default, I'll never go use a default battery tool
Solid video. I only wish during your super scientific method you mouthed “# Vance don’t know fans” into them on slow motion 🤣 Loved the ohio weather bit. I’m from Cincinnati and know all to well the weather there.
I'm from Ohio, can't seem to get away from it. Moved to Alachua county Florida and guess what, flip Alachua county upside down and what do you get? Ohio..
As always, great job on reviewing tools. Can you review Makita’s cooler, & are there any other companies making rechargeable battery coolers? (Ryobi, Rigid, Milwaukie, etc…)
Good job Clint … I do not have a cordless fan but I do have a fan that I use that plugs in called a blue blower you can feel that thing blow air across the room at least 15 feet away …. I’ve owned it since the early 90s and they are still available today that’s the fan that I would recommend plus it has a receptacle built on the side of the fan and it has three speeds 👊🏼👊🏼🔨🪚✌🏼🇺🇸🇺🇸
As far as I'm concerned, if that's how rigid counts mounting points, then they're at least exaggerating if not false advertising their product and don't deserve a capitol R in their name. IMHO 😎 Whatch out for the gnome. He might steal your fans🙃🤣🤣
Not a big Fan of these Fans 🤣 since I'm in DeWalt which thank goodness I got their fans before they changed them and took away the power plug. Great entertaining video (and educational) great way to relax after a long day ...thanks again for your videos.

Dude I love this rivalry!!
He's just so mean bro 😪
Boy doI love when stars collide lmao
I have 2 Ryobi fans I bought when they first came out. Maybe 6-8 yrs ago. They are still going strong.
Most fans with a rotating power knob, including the previous Gen 5X Ridgid fan, start at high speed. I believe this is to avoid the motor stalling.
Yep it's to get a fast start since they have little torque .
Yup.
Watch 'Technology Connections' channel, discusses why High is first selection.
This is correct. Fans that start on low tend to have an extra starting capacitor to help.

Bro! As a Texan, don’t complain about cool weather. We’ll be eating our air around these parts here soon.
Same here, is a fan even necessary in Ohio? Our Texas heat and humidity SUCK!!!
That fan is now free when you buy the $99 starter kit (2 Ryobi 4ah batteries and a basic charger) during Ryobi Days.
$37 if you hack the deal.
I use the ridgid for work and my house at night when I go to sleep. When I’m at work a use a regular battery then when I’m at home I use a cord.
I have the old Ridgid and it still works strong after lots of work abuse after 3 years. I bought the newer version as its 670 cfm over the older ones 450 cfm. But the design and cheap plastic made me return it.

Heya Clint! I feel for ya on the Ohio weather thing. Come spend some time in Wisconsin this "summer" and we'll cry into our beers about it. 🍺
Random optimistic afterthought:
At least we don't live in northern Minnesnowta, or Canaderp. ❄⛄😓🌬⛸🏒
Loo, I'll definitely be making my way up brother. I'll give you a heads up when I do 👊
🤣 I have the ridged fan from last summer. I love it. The new one is similar. Like the fact the older fan the battery and cord is in the back
With Ryobi or Ribeye days amoung us, the fact that one can get the Ryobi fan for under $40 with taxes makes it a no brainer.
What do you think about the m18 Milwaukee fan? I really like mine but little more expensive.
Haven't tried it brother 😪
What do you think about it? I was thinking about buying it.
Id like to know if the ridgid causes interference noise to nearby radios. The old version causes a loud high pitch noise. Dewalt fan does not.
Vegan Cookies Good….that killed me!!🤣🤣🤣
Great vid Clint…highly entertaining and informative as usual!!
I'd like to see a comparison between the predecessor ridgid fan and the new one.
