When Poland designs something that product never has to be improved . We designed vodka 600 ys ago and it still does its job . The more you drink it the better it seams to be not needing any improvement .
This plane can tow three two-seat gliders and have three passengers doing so. It can climb almost 3000' per min on this old AJ-14R Russian engine. This plane was designed in Poland for Aero-clubs for training and towing gliders. There was also aggro version and the Medical version available. Easy to fly but heavy on fuel. Max speed is not so great, but Polish pilots have won so many precision flying championships on this plane....
@@JohnMaxGriffin Yeah, but this one runs a Russian AI14 radial engine and can both climb and descend like crazy! PT6 with over 680HP is an overkill, like Draco! I did like it though!
They made a heck of a plane. A radial engine bush plane, on rearward-swinging shock absorber stilts, massive elevator, and no strut braces. Brilliant. I just bought this plane I Microsoft Flight Simulator today, and I was able to do a perfect slip to land my first try. I came in real steep too. I just wanted to see what it could do, and I was very impressed.
That tail is extremely reminiscent of an Apache, the way the rear fuselage slopes downward from the trailing edge of the wing and flows along towards the vertical stabilizer, the elevator plus the tail wheel further enhance this similarity.
84 thousand views, holy cow! I built and own the airstrip (Clear Creek International) 79ID. It is a very challenging airstrip. Only 13 pilots have successfully landed there. One not so successful pilot's Cessna 182 left in pieces on the back of a car hauler. 1,200 feet long with 80 foot trees, power-lines on both ends, and a difficult approach too. I fly a 210 HP Maule M-4 that does a great job.
Yes ! The "Wilga" (the polish female name of the bird) it was a plane fully constructed and manufactured by polish aero-engineers I believe in 70's, that means during the communism regime time in Poland. Wilga plane, received a popular name as "Aero-Taxi", because of its capacity for carrying the pilot + three passengers, and also especially for the short distances of pretty short take-off and also landing. I believe, that even up for today "Wilga" is still in production in Poland, but as a much modernized version of it rather that PZL [104-35]. Fly !! ...~ Wilga ~.... Fly !!
Love this aircraft so well designed even the lading gear is designed to take forward impact straight on as it should be. I would like to see a scaled down versions of the to home built ans ultralight also. Would make a great glider launch plane.
It does make a great tow plane. In a matter of fact it has been a tow-work-horse in most Polish AeroClubs... I have been towned by this aiplane numerous time. At it was always a great fun. Lot of power .. great climb, short takeoff ...
@triplanelover it is a big cool insect)) fly her myself every weekend. nice radial, originally Russian Ivtshenko AI14-R or RA putting 260HP t/o, 190 HP cruise, later Polish WSK Kalisz version same details, or, in the US,some do the conversion to the Russian M14-P getting her to 360 HP t/o power. Anyhow a nice girl-really.
Ok, so what's this beast actually cost to run with that Russian radial in it... I keep getting wildly different numbers. And how do you work around that pneumatic starting reservoir? Carry an air compressor in the back?
The landing wheels are to small for real back country flying, seen much bigger wheels on this craft, Also that grass is smooth for this type of aircraft,
Gas hog at about 14 gph. Like a large Russian woman. Sure a Cessna burns less fuel, but maybe the Wilga has some other flight abilities the others don't.
what's up w/the FAA? I get upset every time I see a plane like this, people in America can build a plane just like this only much better and at a price tag that the COMMON AMERICAN could afford, I don't get the whole deal with even the Light Sport and ultralight category plane's -if your willing to build something that can fly, then you should be able to get in it and go "PROVIDING" you have the common since to fly where if you have to come down its not going to hurt any innocent people, if we are FREE, then I should be able to take my li'l 150 and put a 180HP engine on it -then it would have exceptional HP to weight ratio, make any changes to the airframe, like put a huge cargo area behind the seat -then use the cheapest part's and material(money wise) not quality! to make the changes, then have a plane like that "WILGA" for around 15G's-but that's not happening -that's why there isn't anyone interested in flying now day's, it's just to dam expensive -even for a man making 100k a year, you can't have decent plane, the fellow on here(RUclips) that built his plane for $6500 dollar's from part's and material he bought at HOME DEPOT should get a AWARD, because it shouldn't take any more then that to own a good airplane!! but the FAA won't allow you to do this -there's always a reason why you don't get a airworthy certificate on a low cost home built!!! and you never will
loxahacefig aronald the FAA doesnt like the idea of the 'common guy' flying. They hate general aviation. The same way that NASA cant stand other organizations attempting to get into space.
Remember, the creation of the FAA was to promote Commercial flying (at first anyway), not joe public flying. If it wasn't for the many civil aviation organizations, there probably wouldn't be any public GA. Aircraft prices are totally insane. In 1976, my dad was looking to buy a new Grumman Tiger for 38,000.. about 38% more then his yearly salary. 2018 C-172, about 370,000 - about 8 times my salary (700% +)! And they wonder why the GA fleet is 40 years old. SMH
The FAA certification process just killed the GA. The only hope left for the common-man aviation is the Experimental market. You can build a great flying Van RV7 for around 80K for VFR flying and maybe 100K for IFR. These new high performance experimentals have so much more performance than the spam cans and a regular middle class guy, working for 2-3 years can afford to fly one.
I’m all for experimenting and going crazy with horsepower like hot rodders do with cars, but there’s one difference. Hot rodders aren’t flying over my house with potential to crash into it and kill my family or hundreds of people on airliners. Aviation is inherently dangerous and deserves a little more respect and responsibility. Yes, I’m a pilot and A&P and I love the Wilga, as ugly as it is. I want one.
we as American's should be able to build are own version of any type or a close copie of any plane we want to, build it at home on a low budget w/part's from HOME DEPOT if we want -but if that happened then you won't ever get your airworthy certificate!, because the FAA doesn't want us to be able to do that, because then you would truly be FREE to fly where ever you wanted -and on a very low cost, why do you have to get a licence to fly ? as lone as you don't endanger anyone, stay below 5000ft and away from any class except "G" airspace it wouldn't result in anymore fatal plane crashes then there is now -and it could all be done for under 10 Grand!!! but that will never happen!!
Just the sound of the radial engine is incredible !!!!!!!! Not to mention the look of this magnificent airplane ! ❤
When Poland designed and produced the awesome Wilga they knew what they were doing, love this fine airplane, beautiful plane in a beautiful state..

We loved the plane in Hungary! I spent half my of childhood in such a back seat. The nosedive after the glider was released was the highlight!

Love the sound of the round engine.
I like the sound of this engine, sounds well balanced and smooth. Very nice.
Love the sound of that little radial.
Beautiful aircraft with a nice radial
So freakin cool! Love the Wilga!
NOTHING LIKE THE SOUND OF A RADIAL
Nothing like the sound of a radial being tossed in the ocean and used as a boat anchor.

There's an engine-driven compressor so it starts recharging as soon as the engine is running.
