We are in the heart of the NBA playoffs, so I decided to share who I think are the most overrated players on each NBA team right now. Knowing how the internet is, I'm sure there will be no disagreements and everybody will be cordial. Class Acts all around.
Ben Simmons is not overrated, since everyone already thinks he's garbage...he just has an huge contract, like Bertans, Duncan Robinson & co...you can't be overrated if noone cares about you

If someone is "overpaid", that implies that the people who gave them the contract thought he was worth it, therefore "overrating" that player. Maybe they're not overrated in the eyes of the general fanbase, but certainly by some.
Yeah everyone simultaneously recognizes the hypothetical value Ben Simmons brings while also recognizing that due to his piss poor work ethic and complete lack of confidence that he ultimately is hot ass garbage on an nba court

That's most centers though. Big friendly giants. Very few centers in today's league are hard-nosed, old-school muscle. KAT, Ayton, Embiid, AD, Julius Randle, Gobert, Jokic etc. I can't think of a current NBA big that isn't soft. Even Giannis, who can be a bruiser, is one of the most friendly players in the league.

I would argue perimeter defense means so much more in todays league because of how offenses can space the floor
Also why defense is so much harder in today's NBA but the narrative is players just don't try🤷♂️
Side note: From the sounds of it, there aren’t many two way star guards in the league these days.
Given that, you’d think a role player who could defend the perimeter would have some value to teams, but if he doesn’t provide much offensively then I could see why that’d be a hindrance.
It's crazy that he said Marcus didn't deserve dpoy and can only play perimeter defense even tho he was matched up on Embiid for like 3 games in the Celtics vs 76ers series
I don’t think it’s really that valuable, there’s just no perimeter defender whose so good where a superstar offense could truly be negated. Even being a great perimeter defender can be schemed against through the pick and roll or off ball screen. And again when someone’s a great scorer there’s nothing much anyone can do. As long as you aren’t someone players can pick on, that’s really the extent of what you need as a perimeter defender.
@@caleb.cannon Horford was on Embiid for most of the series. Smart was on Maxey and only helped on Embiid by doubling...he did force him into a few turnovers to be fair. He isn't a great post defender tho...unless you consider flopping and taking charges defense.
Man this brought to my attention Sexton had awesome shooting splits this season, I think the only reason he didn’t play often was the Jazz trying to tank, he shot 50 and 40 from the field and 3, nice

Lonzo is not the most overrated on the Bulls. They were the 1 seed when he was healthy, he’s a monster defensively, good catch and shoot guy and a solid transition passer. Vuc is getting paid almost twice as much for mid production.

Randle is an odd case for me. I’m not sure if he’s playing bad because of the Playoffs or because of his Ankle injury. But he’s been kind of holding this team back. I was talking about him being a GameChanger in this series against the Heat and he’s been hurting this team.
As Knicks fan, I want Randle off the team so bad next year. He’s a solid player but he doesn’t have the heart so he’ll never consistently be good in the playoffs.
I’ve been firmly anti-Randle since watching him at the Garden vs the Hawks. Dude can’t stop taking “I’m him” shots in iso and tilts when the low probability shots that he makes in the regular season shockingly don’t fall in the playoffs. Every time he spin moves into a double team a little part of me dies inside
The problem is randle is sort of the engine of the team if he puts up his 25ppg they win but he is so inconsistent that you can’t trust him to put up even 15

I thought that pick was pretty accurate to be honest with you, the fan community still pretends that Lonzo is some kind of mega star player who got unlucky with a severe injury, but even when Lonzo was healthy and active, he just wasn't that damn good. It's interesting he plays for the Bulls, because they had this happen with Derrick Rose too. People still to this day pretend like Rose was poised to become a legendary point guard when he exploded his knee, but really, Rose wasn't all that even when he was healthy.

Mobley is a 21 year old lean 7 footer. Dude hasn't had the chance to grow into his frame yet. Those giants usually dont fill out until 23'ish. Unfair pick but for the sake of the video Mobley hasn't lived up to the praise yet.

He is a perfect glue guy, great defender and passer. Granted, he isn't a great shooter but he does more than enough for the Celtics and changes games. He is the perfect role player. Smart is utter menace to teams. you hate him when plays against you but adore him when on your team. in fact, if Celtics wanted to trade for whatever reason, they'd get alot of value because teams knows what he brings. Side Note: Lonzo ball one, really gets on my nerves. Guy has is literally on the verge of retirement because of knee injuries, not his fault. Lonzo is amazing when fit.

I think MPJ is sort of the default option for the Nuggets. Dude is rock solid though. Maybe a bit overpaid, but when you're a small market team you gotta do what you gotta do to keep talent like him.
I'd say Jamal Murray is more overrated than MPJ. Murray a good player, but he is inconsistent and his play in the bubble was a fluke. MPJ has the talent. imo he's a top 3 shooter in the league but Malone refuses to get him involved in the offense. If MPJ got consistent touches he would easily average 25ppg, but he never gets the ball as much as he should and that's why his play is inconsistent.

Reason some of these players like Anfernee Simons for example is overpaid is basically the team has nothing to do with its money. Even if Portland throw cash at elite players, nobody wants to play for their city. Even Melo who could have at least shown love to Portland for reviving his career chose to go to the Lakers after a year.. and re-ended his career.

I would agree that Myles Turner is the most overrated player in Indiana, but I would disagree that he didn't take a jump in output. He had a career year with Tyrese, and for the previous 2 or 3 years, he was playing with Sabonis, which wasn't the best situation for either of them.

Evan Mobley is not overrated. It’s hard to be a top 10 player in the league when you’ve only played two years. I’d say Donovan Mitchell is more overrated and I’m a Cavs fan. Garland would also fit better.

Mans really said Dave Berts is overrated cause hes overpaid . Like the Mavs didnt even pay him . He was the posin pill they had to take in ordered to get KP of their books. The guy doesn't even play when healthy . No other fanbase is begging their tean to trade for him. Honestly you could've gone with Kai or Wood . Both are great offensive players with bad to horrible defense and Kai hasnt been a factor in the playoffs since 2016.
I disagree with the Covington selection. He was a very good player for us last year after we traded for him and Ballmer rewarded him with 12 million a year hoping that he'd be the key to unlocking our small ball lineup's full potential. However Ty Lue absolutely refused to play him with Kawhi and PG and instead ran 3 or even 4 guard lineups as our small ball lineups after signing Russ. A large portion of Clipper Nation was practically screaming for RoCo to get playing time but for whatever reason he just didn't. And its not like he declined either, you could see that he still had exactly what we gave him $12 million for
MPJ is not overrated he plays along Jokic and Murray the guy is literally the third option on a Championship team. NBA isnt the NFL where a team like Jacksonville lands top free agents simply because they play in Florida. Being a small market means something in the NBA
Almost all of these guys are universally considered mediocre or worse. Organizations paying them a lot doesn't mean that they're overrated, especially when most of them are currently on the trade block.
I have met Deandre Ayton. He came in while I was working at Bestbuy and bought like 1700 worth of stuff (switches, PlayStations, iPad minis) it was pretty cool to meet him. Smelt like total weed 😂😂😂😂, but was a cool dude

This is more of a worst contracts video than a over rated video. Everyone knows some of these guys are overpaid but hardly anyone thinks they are great players in today’s NBA. Lots of things change since they were first given their contracts
You could just retitle the worst contract on each team. Personally I don’t think how much you’re paid resembles if you are overrated/underrated, I think it’s the perception on how people think how good you are
It’s ridiculous that you don’t think Jayson Tatum is the most overrated player in the league, not to mention his own team. He is on the verge of being a real superstar but he doesn’t perform well in the playoffs and he decides to take bad efficiency 3s when he could drive to the rim and get easy buckets. He could be the best player if he stopped playing selfishly and applied the strengths of his game but instead he pretends to be Kobe and take fadeaway 3point highlight plays while getting bailed out by his all defensive teammates.

This is more of a “Most Overpaid” list than anything.
You should have titled the video overpaid. For example, Ben Simmons is rated as low as it gets right now, but he still gets paid the max. This is because when he got the contract we was worth the that money. That doesn't make him overrated as that contract was the proper rating at the time, while he is deemed far lower right now, but they don't do anual contracts in the NBA.
Edit: nevermind, you just don't understand how basketball works. Yeah, if you only look at counting stats, Mobley is not that good. I guess the DPOY should be the player who gets the most STOCKS every year and the MVP should be whoever has the best +/-, or maybe the +/- is already too complex, it should just be the scoring champ.

Would it be crazy to say Kawhi for the Clippers? He’s been so hyped up to take them to the finals and bring a chip, yet never plays. Definitely not an overrated player all-time, but definitely in recent years
On Turner I actually agree as a Pacers fan. Based on the impression I got from other fans over the years I sometimes got the feeling he was a DPOY/All-Def 1st team caliber defender, just because of his fancy blocks. Yes, his defense is vital to the team, but he has always been a subpar rebounder for a starting center in the NBA and blocks are by far the least important major stat category. It's by ar the least frequent to happen compared to points, assists, rebound and steals and whereas all these stats have positive effect for the team, blocks are a wildcard.
Points are the obvious one, assists only occur with points, offensive boards extent possessions and steals/defensive rebound create a position + prevent points. Blocks can be as easily lead to a defensive rebound or inbound pass as that it can be negated by an offensive rebound or inbound pass.

To be fair, Phoenix isn't the team that authored that Ayton contract. That was an RFA offer sheet from Indiana that Phoenix basically had to match so as to not let their former 1st overall pick walk out the door for no return.
That Lonzo Ball take was a breath of fresh air. I'm so sick and tired of hearing people talk about how Lonzo is actually a mega-star and he just needs to come back from his injury. I like Lonzo as a person, he seems like a good kid, but he really was never that good even when he was healthy.

I wanted to say for this one though that just because a team overplayed for a guy doesn’t mean that we as fans seem them as being a great player. I’d base a guy being overrated or not on the hype surrounding that player rather that just who was paid a lot but then under performed
