To all those commenting saying "it's a beetle, not a bedbug" you're completely wrong.
Tim is correct. That is 1000% an adult bed bug that has fed that night.
Leave your stuff, get out of there, and if your front door is shielded I would even strip off to my birthday suit before entering my house.
I've never had them thankfully, but a few years ago I was convinced I did, and did all the research I could on these little ******s... The mental toll these things can take is horrendous

100% it's a bedbug, I thought I found one in my house, it turned out to be a carpet beetle, I can't tell you the stress and research I did on the nasty little mites, I drove myself insane even when I'd be been told by several experts it wasn't. I am super careful when we come home from any hotel, bags stay outside until I'm ready to wash all the clothes, what we are wearing goes directly in the washer, cases are kept in the shed. For anyone who gets them indoors it can take multiple treatments to get rid of them and intense cleaning twice a day at least. If you travel by tube or bus stand up where possible

Hi Tim, I suffered from an infestation of bed bugs in my parents house about 10 years ago. It lasted for months and resulted in throwing away a lot of things, books, clothes, mattresses, even stripping if our carpet and getting floorboards! It affected me so much I completely failed one year at university. Since then I’ve been so paranoid when I travel or if I get itchy or feel like something is crawling on me in bed. So sorry you experience this but I can HIGHLY relate to this anxiety you have. I have two kids now so I also get paranoid when they get bites or rashes! Never ending trauma!

I just recently got back from Paris and was covered in bites. I thought I got them from the dusty floors outside as I was bending down to take photos a lot but when I got home I heard the news about the bed bug epidemic and it all made sense. I'm horribly allergic to them and my arms and legs are covered in horrible scars now 2 months later. I was constantly bleeding for weeks! I binned my suitcase and boil washed everything. I completely understand about the anxiety and how badly it can affect your mental health moving forwards and I usually have no problems mentally. I'll always check for bed bugs wherever I go now.

Found them in my place as well.... I must have picked them up from my travels. I too did not even know they existed, I thought they were a myth from a nursery rhyme. I tried insect bombs, which did not work, so I got the professionals in who found an established infestation, thankfully from just one treatment of spraying, hot washing all clothes and linen and disposing of one bed we managed to get rid of them. I now know that I was lucky, as some people have to go to extraordinary lengths to get rid of them. I actually helped the pest controllers at my house, and saw first hand how thorough they had to be in their treatment process.

The only sure way to kill them all is heat the areas to 50C which also kills their eggs, some professionals provide this service for difficult cases when nothing else works.

There was never any add ons and, as a single parent, it was a godsend. Me, my mum and my daughter would go to a caravan site for 4 days for less than £50 plus the price of the newspaper. The caravans were always clean, but the bottom line is that we all enjoyed a change of scenery and a break, plus we never met any bed bugs

Before you leave home, fill the bottle with alcohol from the chemist and 30 drops each of lavender, tea-tree and eucalyptus essential oils which are natural insect repellents. In the late 80's I went to Glastonbury Festival. It was a particularly hot summer that year and whilst watching a band people in the crowd were passing out due to the extreme heat. The Police were asked to fly their helicopter over the crowd to cool us down, which they did and it was amazing to be cooled by helicopter.
However, on Monday morning, the Sun newspaper went with the story that the crowd was rioting and the Police had to fly their helicopter over the crowd to quell said riot. I was there, that definitely didn't happen and apart from anything else; for those who were there in those days, riots didn't happen 'AT ALL!!!'
I haven't bought a Sun newspaper since and to tell the truth I wouldn't wipe my arse on it if truth be told. They are liars and trouble makers and all they care about is selling their lies. Nuff said............

When we've used the sun holidays we went to a place in skegness, great yarmouth and near bognor regis. The accommodation is £9.50 but we always got the entertainment passes which could cost £12 - £25 each. They are pretty essential if you want evening entertainment and to use the clubhouse at a certain time onwards. All places we stayed were very good but the best one we did was a place called bunn leisure. We had a bronze caravan but they might have replaced / redecorated them as it was modern and a lot nicer.

A nicer alternative to the rub finger in the carpet pet test is to use a damp cloth and press firmly into the carpet and drag about 12 inches while keeping the pressure applied, this will give you a nice rolled up clump of pet hair if there is any. Its quite amazing as the naked eye can give you the impression its a clean carpet.. but this method will expose the amount of hair hidden below the surface. I must say this video made me itch lol 😂

And although I don't buy the Sun I have been on these trips twice in the last 10 years after being invited by others who do. Both times they were immaculately cleaned, and a decent experience. I wouldn't ever go on this kind of holiday generally though, just not my kind of thing. But as a one off here and there with a couple of friends it was OK.

Bed bugs and fleas aren't something that you can definitely avoid. They can be difficult to spot and notice, sometimes the cheeky ones can stay dormant for months. The problem doesn't necessarily relate to the level of cleanliness, but rather to the amount of people get in contact with the area and favourable conditions in that area, the good places to hide. Obviously carpets, soft and wooden furniture etc. Ideal places are public transport - trains, taxis, buses. Hotels, pubs, sometimes offices. High turnover of people and somewhere to hide.

Long story short, we ended up needing pest control treatment and everything in our apartment was destroyed. You were absolutely correct to leave your belongings at the holiday site, bedbugs LOVE Clean stuff, and I can tell you from experience you DO NOT want to take bedbugs home with you 😬 Since this experience, I am so wary of hotel accommodation now, and upon arriving home from any break, I actually leave my clothing in the garden until I can get it straight into the washing machine on a good hot wash! 😓

I've had bedbugs before, it's likely I brought them home from the rest room at work - as I worked in British Airways and our shifts had 80 people on them. 500 people using a crew room = bound to get something. Needless to say, started sleeping in my car or driving home on shift. It was two house moves before we fully escaped them, we moved once cleaned our stuff and thought we'd be ok, within 6 months they arrived, within a year. When we moved again, we had all our bedding and clothes absolutely blasted with heat after cleaning, left all plastic on bedding and they were finally gone. But we spent days thoroughly cleaning things and even slept on the floor for a week before ordering the beds to ensure they were gone before we got mattresses. And still for several months I felt crawling on me at night, because the psychological side was still there. It absolutely fucks with your head.

On checking the bed for BB (there weren't any) but I noticed each bed leg was placed in a little metal lid and checked the front desk for a reason. It was said that each lid had a little liquid (paraffin or similar to prevent BB or any other to climb up the bed leg and into the bed linen etc. Seemingly it works.

We have done loads of Sun breaks going back over 20 years since our kids were tiny. It used to be £9 and we always knew there were extras but it used to work out about double so still good value. We have also stayed at many parks for 7 days in August with the girls too, always preferred Park Resorts to Haven as Haven always seemed like a money pit. We have always taken our small hoover with us though and a cleaning kit including Neutrodol carpet sprinkle and before unpacking would spend 3O minutes covering all the carpets in the nutraliser, bleach in the toilets and wiping down every surface with anti bac spray and then hoovering even if the van looks spotless! Always better to be safe than sorry but luckily never had bed bugs and only had two bad experiences, a really grotty chalet at Butlins in Bognor and a filthy caravan at Haven Perran Sands but they moved and upgraded us

Your anxiety is totally justified, Tim. I know how that feels! I use pure essential oils when travelling, like lavender, eucalyptus and tea tree or a combination of all three, diluted in a small amount of water or vodka in a small spray bottle, and I spray the room and bed before sleeping in it. Any lurking critters including mozzies HATE it! You can use it on yourself too, to keep them away or to soothe any bites you may get. They smell good, and the lavender helps to ease anxiety. But don't let this incident play on your mind too much. Think of all the number of places you've stayed in and not encountered any bugs! Thanks Tim, Gaby and Casper, hope you're over that nasty little encounter.

That is an excellent idea. Never thought of the essential oils. I used to stay in a Birmingham hotel almost weekly for my university studies and next morning i felt something crawling in my long hair- I pulled it out and there it was looking at me🤮squashed it straightaway! Scrubbed myself when I got home and washed everything at 90°.
Tim. I'm so sorry that you had to go through this, I too am paranoid about bed bugs. I sleep on top of the bed in hotels always now. Poor Caspar being bitten all over, bless him. X

Yes I think you’re trusting the oils too much. It’s been proven you can dump the oil on them and they still don’t die. 🤮

This was funny , it reminded me of the Amityville horror movie where the couple leave the house in the middle of the night to avoid a demon , but you and Gabby leave to avoid a demon bedbug 😂😂😂

We once left a holiday park in Trevelgue (sun holiday) in the middle of the night. Got a Travelodge the next day and stayed there for three nights. Your caravan looked like a palace compared to ours in Trevelgue!

Beg bugs are the worst! I'm a caregiver and I work in a home setting. My shift partner actually had bed bugs in her home, and she brought them (unknowingly) to work with her at some point. Well, long story short I got bit a few times on my forearm. And after a few days my arm began to develop a rash. Which progressively got worse and worse. The rash was one thing, but the itching made me want to rip my arm off!! It took a good month to recover from that. I think I had an allergic reaction, but let me tell you, it was one of the worst experiences ever. So your fear of bed bugs is 100% warranted.

I once stayed in a cheap hotel in Paris. It had a reasonably good review although I later discovered someone had been bitten by bed bugs. I turned the bed upside down before getting in, confident in the fact there were no bugs. The following morning, no bites, and I breathed a sigh of relief. Three days later my arms were covered in itchy bites. It can take a few days before they appear. My biggest worry was whether I'd brought any home with me. Fortunately I kept all clothes away from the bed. It's a nasty shock and I can appreciate what you went through. Worth mentioning as well... hotels (and caravans) are only as clean as the people who stayed in them before you.

Omg I check the beds now so you didn't find anything they can be small and could be also in furniture and carpets.. I might be wrong but as the mattress looked new I'm confused maybe from the carpets or other bedrooms

@@WalkWithMeTim Hi Tim, it is likely that they will be near the head end of the bed. Possibly in the bed frame, in the seams under the carpet edge, in an electrical socket etc. I have a fear of them too after waking up in a hotel in Manchester with them 11 years ago. Since then whenever I stay away I worry, and I have to stay away for work. Use a flash light when checking, and look for black spots, like ink from a pen. I also have bed bug passive monitors in my house, as I freak out that I may bring them home. The passive monitors do help my anxiety, however, I just wish I still thought they weren't real and just something you said before bed. Your experience was a tough one given you had your little one with you. I think my only surprise from watching your videos is that you have not come across them more often, given some of the places you stay. However, you can get them in high end places too.
The unhoovered carpet was a possible indication that bed bugs were more likely here. Hoovering is one of the recommended ways to avoid bed bugs.
I would love to see hotels and holiday parks meet this issue head on. They need better cleaning protocols in bedrooms, they need to train staff properly to check for signs, they should install monitors on all bed which should be checked by cleaning staff. Feels like these places still operate in the dark ages, and put profit before dealing with this issue. What they should know is by not being proactive their profits will take a massive hit.
A video on how to do a bed bug search would be useful for your viewers. Also, tips on what not to do on holiday eg placing suitcases on beds etc.

I suffered badly from bed bugs as they came though the walls from my neighbour's house. I was a teen so couldn't sort them myself. My infestation preferred to nest in wood the most. They nested in my bedside table and bed slats. Always double check wood and the bed frame! Mine weren't in my mattress too often unless I was sleeping.

Tim and Gaby, please don't be put off. Think about the amount of stays you've had over the years in all sorts of places. I was a salesman for 29 years and had to stay in some questionable places. I never experienced bed bugs. We love you both and don't want you having anxiety about things. You need to carry on producing lovely videos for us all. Try and not let your thoughts run away with you. You bring such wonderfulness to the world. Much love Si and Share xxx
