Just asking "I just started playing drums" why do snare drummers all around with their songs say "DUT DUT DUT DUT" before or after playing?

Good question! It’s called subdividing and it helps it so that we [the drumline] can start on the same beat all together and maintain a steady tempo while we are not playing.
