Love Martinsville speedway best nascar track even to this day
Watching this and watching the races at Martinsville now it's pretty easy to see why it really sucks now.
i have watched every martinsville race from 2000 so far... on to the next one
Ward Burton returns after a 2 year hiatus
This was the race that changed EVERYTHING for Jimmie.He hadn't won the Big One yet and was known for bad luck in chasing the title (the pace lap with Mark Martin at Talladega 2002, 3 bad races in August 2004, Homestead and Talladega '05) and was coming off a last lap disaster at Talladega that made it seem like it was gonna be close but no cigar and he might be another Mark Martin- great, but no title luck.Then Burton has his issues here (he had been on a hot run before this), Jimmie wins, jumps 4 positions, and gets back in it.Won the big one and really never looked back.
I know Im late but it also helped that Burton had that cut tire at Dega and his pit crew changed the let side tires when the right rear was the problem.
And the timing of the caution at Charlotte for the Martin crash also cost Burton.

Something to think about this was the only year of Johnson's title years that he only won 1 Chase race. He finished 2nd the next 3 races.
@1:48:13 - Schrader talked about this on the Dale Jr download, wanting to throw that piece of his bumper.

I wonder why NBC didn't televise NASCAR from 2007-2014.
espn offered more money and the entirety of the chase on network tv, plus nascar was bullhurt over the money NBC gave the NFL for sunday night football (2006 was the first year of SNF). nascar were foolish to take that deal in hindsight

Rick was good on truck and arca broadcasts, but now he just sucks. Except for DJ, KP, Burns and Snider, I think the whole NBC crew sucks
