My wife heard bits and pieces from another room, walked in and asked, “What are you listening to? Aren’t they talking about watches?” (As in, why so emotional about a watch?) I said, “Yes…and no. It’s a watch, but…it’s never just a watch.” I guess that’s real beauty of it.
Moments in time encapsulated in the tool for measuring time. They are the keystones to memories like a photograph only so much more. Keep bringing the heat lads! Marcus you are legend for sharing. Andrew, Adrian and George you are what we all seek to find in the brotherhood of camaraderie.
I've consumed watch related content for well over 15 years and this is the most legit and heart felt episode of any podcast/content on any platform. Sharing your life moments with the world puts you in different class my friend. I've already enjoyed this channel for what's been put out already, but this episode hits number 1 in my book. You just helped me with something, so I greatly appreciate you being transparent!
Wow. This is pretty awesome to read. And I’m really glad the ep has been helpful to you. That’s def the reason I pulled the trigger in sharing this difficult journey. Was always my hope that it could make the difference to someone that they needed. Great to have you along for the journey
One of the great bits about this episode is watching Andrew watch his mate be vulnerable and tell his story. Simultaneously protective, proud, encouraging. Just a real mate there for a mate. Well done everyone.
I cried so much during this episode. Thanks Marcus for being so vulnerable. And thanks to George, Adrian, and Andrew for being an amazing friends. Glad to be part of this community.
This is such a powerful episode.. still watching it but some parts of the story really resonates. Being vulnerable is frightening but sharing it like this, kudos to you, Marcus! This ain’t just a watches podcast, it’s true mateship!
Yeah it was def not the ending I was expecting either. It nearly knocked me off my seat. And yes this is Nate ship at its core. Thanks for the comment means a lot.
Dear god.. I absolutely loved this episode. Marcus - a massive shout out to you - not just for opening up the book of Marcus for all of us, but for making us ( atleast me) renew my belief in the power of resolve. Adrian, George, Andrew - what an amazingly beautiful gesture. We all have to thank this amazing camaraderie for making AET what it is… THANK YOU!
Just found the time to finish the last ten. My favourite episode of all time. Marcus obviously works so hard to make these happen, not to mention all the other t&t content. Most deserving owner of a Pelagos of all time.
Of all the watch RUclips shows i've ever seen (and it's a massive number) none has ever touched me the way this one has. A massive thank you to Marcus who bared his soul to us in such a moving way and showed how you can overcome the biggest adversity. I'm not ashamed to say my eyes were watering when Marcus was presented the Pelagos. The moment was so genuine and the affection palpable. You can never script moments and reactions like these so thank you, thank you, thank you for baring and sharing this with us and here's to the next tokens to fall into place for Marcus. Simply beautiful
Wow, thanks so much for your kind words. And yes this was a very special moment for us all. Super glad it hit the mark for you and so many others in the watch world.
Way to make a bunch of grown men cry 😢 Credit to Marcus for making the tough decisions and overcoming his challenges. So happy for Marcus to get the watch back so he can hand down to his son. As someone who wants to do this one day, I see the connection and importance of sharing memories. Also, so great to see the support in this team and the special gift for Marcus! Love this team and tuning in every week.
This ep is such a pivotal moment for us mates. Truely sums up so much that’s great about the world. And sometimes letting emotions tip you over the edge is just what we need as men. Super glad it hit the mark with you.
This was the most human, beautifully poetic talk of a couple guys. I said I would never sit for an hour watching this and I was hung on every word. Thank you for your vulnerability and being so cool f’ing guys.
Amazing episode Huge respect to Marcus for his honesty and vulnerability. What a top guy. Lovely to see the friendship between you and Andrew too. Mesmerising story telling. My wife and I were both glued watching this to the happy ending. Third time lucky, and hope this is the one you give to your son!
Yessssss. That’s incredible that she enjoyed the journey as well. And I’m convinced about that inscription now. Def getting George’s team to do it for me. Thanks for the comment. Means a lot!
This is the most real video I've ever seen on RUclips. So much genuine, raw feelings. The guts Marcus has to expose himself, to open up to this extent... Here's to him passing both of his new watches to his kids!
Buying a watch you intend to pass down takes the stakes up a notch. I’m tearing up listening to Marcus. Thanks for sharing! And thanks for the quality of the show overall.
I'm literally in tears by the end! Marcus, you are an absolute rock star! Like many, I have my own struggles and your story is an inspiration. Congrats on the 2 new Tudors! May you and your kids wear them always in safety and in good health!
Wow so overwhelming to read the comments. This has hit the mark with so many people out there. And yes my boys are getting extra meaning attached to these tudors now. Wow. Thanks for sharing means a lot.
@@WestCoastAce27hahahaha son one hahahahaha. Nah he knows the S&G is his. Was fantastic to return back to amsterdam to show my youngest the one he will get eventually.
Marcus - Thank you so much for sharing your story, and congratulations on 1 year and 3 months. Not only have you made a positive change for your life, but a positive change for your family as well. It’s not easy to admit you have a problem, change your habits, and change your social life, but it gets easier every single day. You’re on the right path man. Keep it up.
This is huge. A perfect example that your mate sitting in the same room as you can be internally going through it and you might be totally unaware. It’s great these friends are sharing and being vulnerable in this way. Thanks for sharing. I’ve been sober for more years than I was drinking and using now and this reminded me so much of an AA share. Andrew and Adrian’s facial expressions while Marcus was telling his story tells it all. Good on you guys for putting this out there in the community. If you see a friend struggling, lend an ear. It can go a long way.
Marcus you are an inspiration. As a recovering alcoholic of 6 years. Hearing your story reminded me of where I came from and where I am at now. I really needed this thank you for sharing your story.
Wow. If we were together now. We would shake hands (probably do a wrist check) then look each other in the eye with that knowing look of where we have come from and would not need any more words. Super glad it was an encouragement for you. Stay strong. Peace love and success to your life my friend.
As a 'watch guy', who is also currently struggling with the fact that I may have an alcohol problem, this resonated. Thank you so much for sharing this story. The fact that i cried whilst watching, probably highlights my issues more than I realised.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: THIS sort of content is what makes AET special. No bullshit. No pretence. No hype about value or prices. Just 3 (and now 4) likeable relatable dudes talking about watches and more often than not. Life. Thank you all, and especially Marcus.
Gents. It’s Thanksgiving weekend here in 🇨🇦. Little did I expect to watch you guys over coffee and be crying on the couch. Many lessons to be thankful for in Marcus’ story and in your generosity as well as respect for him. Thanks for everything all of you do and for this community. Marcus, you’re accountable to all of us now. Stay clean and strong for your family.
Guys, this is probably the most powerful episode I’ve seen across all of my subs. Kudos to all of you, especially Marcus (and Andrew for his decade long friendship). You guys are luck to have each other, others not so much so embrace the warmth you have, as it is transferred to the watching audience. Beautiful, and the ending……jus t wow!
I was incredibly moved when Marcus opened the surprise and it was a Pelagos 39. It's the first meaningful watch I bought to commemorate the birth of my son and give to him one day. Great episode.
We have such a difficult time talking about feelings and it is so encouraging to see the support that you have for one another. I love the watch talks but it’s a “hobby” that brings so much joy to people and this story of real care for one another is so incredible. Thank you for sharing this story!
I’m coming up on two years sober. I never had ‘that’ moment but I was on a similar path. It’s utterly amazing to hear such similar stories and seeing myself in them despite being blind to it at the time. Thank you Marcus for your honestly and vulnerability. Some will benefit from hearing it.
Wow. Well done on your journey. And yeah. I felt like sharing this story is somehow opening up a crack of light in this sometimes pretty dark world. Great to have you in the comments.
I can agree with your sentiment of missing it. But it is ‘missing’ it rather than craving it that should be the distinction. Alcohol is a right of passage in the modern age. Some come and go and others get eaten up by it. I’m glad I went there but proud to have got out the other side. Life doesn’t get better without alcohol but when you consider the absence of the negatives that come as a result of cutting it out then you really have swung the pendulum back in your favour. I bought a Tudor Black Bay 36 at the six months no drinking mark. Every time I look at it, it reminds me of all the pints and shit situations I haven’t found myself in for the last two years.
@@germcevoy bloody awesome to read. Wow. You have nailed that distinction between missing and craving. Yessss that’s a perfect way to put it. Wow. Again thanks for the words. Means a lot.
I have only discovered this channel and working my way through the episodes. I absolutely loved this one. Marcus was real, honest, vulnerable and forthcoming and its to be applauded. A fantastic gesture from the boys towards him at the end. Bravo everyone, this episode was a massive victory for Marcus and for us all.
Thank you for raising the awareness around alcohol abuse. I have countless stories like Marcus’ and took me far too long to address it. I hope people see this who needs help and gives them the courage to seek the help to get back on track.
dude....this is the best thing ive seen in a long time...thank you for sharing that beautiful story and a look into your personal life..those are some precious friends..some true gentlemen..well done
Thank you, really, for letting us be a part of this - having a view in your friendship and of course in your private life, Marcus. Best example of why watches invoke emotions in us and why we can invoke emotions through them.
My father recently lost his battle with alcoholism. I bought a watch to commemorate him and to also help me, not choose the same path. Well done Marcus...fucking legend! You've done your boys proud 👍 wear both pieces in good health. Mark
Bloody hard to hear Mark. It’s such a potentially dangerous path for many people. But great that you drew a line in the sand with your watch to remind you. Super glad to have you along the journey with us.
This episode is a paradigm shift from what was very good watch content into potentially prize winning modern masculinity content. An absolute tour de force of honesty and brotherly friendship on display here. Yes it's a story of a watch but a man and his watch. And it's not aspirational magazine ad watch stuff, it's a great man telling his redemption story. And the kindness and attentiveness of the three guys was there for all to see. When they were talking about the engraving and George said (about getting his guys to engrave the watch), he said, with absolutely no hesitation, "it's done". What a guy. Marcus, both watches look absolutely amazing. Here's to many more amazing days for you and your family.
Holy bleep. Best episode, not only on AET, but best watch RUclips episode I’ve ever seen. Marcus, the story is such an agonizing yet beautiful one, and your story-telling had us rapt. Major props to you for sharing something so vulnerable. And kudos to all 4 of you for producing this one. Incredible.
Wow wow wow. Just wow. I’m really blown away reading comments like this. I had no idea what this ep would do. But super glad it’s hitting the right marks in people like yourself. I’m super pleased to share this story (even though I was super nervous before it dropped) and see it connecting us all together. Thanks for your thoughts. Means a lot
A masterclass in fragility, humility, friendship, redemption, and storytelling that elevates beyond the standard fare. Marcus, wear your Tudors in good health and get them insured! 😂
This is hands down the best episode so far. Marcus was like a guest but the bond between all the members allowed a genuine story telling that consisted of a massive down, getting over it, an unfortunate event and a warming ending. It was a movie-like episode. 👏
Marcus' kids need a father who is present way more than they need a watch that reminds them of a father who was always hungover. A watch is a great gift, but spending time with your sons is the greater one. It's the memories of great times spent together that gives meaning to those two watches. I hope that Marcus, his wife, and his two boys get to have many happy memories.
Best part of this episode is the friendship. All of the guys, but especially Marcus and Andrew. We all need that one friend like Andrew that will stick with us through thick and thin and push us to be the best version of ourselves. Well done chaps! 👏👏👏
I’ve been catching up with the episodes and this one was on a whole other level. It’s beautiful to watch so much genuine emotion, and to see the friendship between yourselves. I really hope more guys dare to speak this openly among their friends, because we all have our struggles and we all need someone to lean on from time to time. Thank you.
I had pretty much lost everything to a 17 year heroin addiction. Sold everything ended up homeless for a while. I sold all of my parents jewelry including my dad’s Rolex. Now I have almost 6 years clean and have rebuilt most relationships. I think the most important thing is that I’ve become reliable. The bad, I’m now addicted to watches!!
Thomas. Well done to you and your journey. What a crazy coincidence we now both have the 39. Let’s shake hands one day and give each other that knowing look of what’s in the past. 🎉🎉🎉
This episode is the very definition of “I’m not crying, you’re crying” thank you for having the courage to share your story. I pray that you conquer this challenge and become the father and husband that you have always wanted to be
The insight about the difference between seeing a watch and touching/handling a watch is sooooo spot on. I can't count how many times I've loved a watch on sight but not in real life, and hated a watch on sight but had an epiphany once I touched and wore it. Then there's the ones that grow on me slowly as I wear them day in and day out.
Guys, these kind of stories are such a big part of why we love watches. Thank you for such a great episode. And thank you Marcus for sharing your story with us.
This is what it's all about gents. Community, love, support, passion, family. Thank you Marcus for sharing your story with us - you're inspirational - complete legend! I love the brotherhood on display here 🙏
I’m a watch collector and a recovering alcoholic and I am so fucking proud of you Marcus, keep going, it is such a wonderful gift you are giving your family!!!
What a boss move to share your story Marcus!! And what a gesture from the rest of you. First time a watch video has me crying, tears rolling down my cheeks. I'm not jealous of the things you've been through, but I am that you have TWO watches with so much meaning crammed into them. Keep the good things happening....in life and on this wonderful channel!!
Hahahahaha wow you summed that up so well. These Tudor heaters on my wrist have so much more value in them due to this story. Will be super glad to finally hand them down to my boys when the time is right.
@@marcusflack1523 I hope I can bring meaning to my children in the same way in the future. Wearing my most meaningful watch today with your story in mind: My grandfather's old Eterna tuning fork watch. This one has all happy memories in it: Hugs, stories at camp fires, ice cream and eternal summers 😊
A powerful episode. It takes a lot of guts to share this with a audience. I’m like everyone else here am glad that you’re heading in the right direction.
Kudos to Marcus, both for improving his life and for having the courage to share his story. Hopefully anyone with similar issues who sees this will know that they're not alone. Friends and family can be a big help, but finding inner strength takes power and determination.
This is by far the best episode of the show. So much humanity, and honesty throughout… got me feeling a certain kinda way. Fantastic to hear he got a new S&G to fill the void, and the boys came through with the 39. Just incredible to hear
One of the best episodes yet! Huge respect to Marcus for talking openly about this. So happy for him that he has such amazing friends as you guys. This was beautiful!
Hi Marcus, as a fellow member of the fellowship this episode really choked me up. Man when they gave you that watch I was done. Really brave of you to share your story so publicly. I can also track some of my drinking and recovery with watch purchases, losses and re-buys so I was with you all the way. Massive congrats on your sober time, keep coming back!
One hell of a story that could not have been an easy one to share. Watching this at work fighting back the emotion that was overwhelming. Massive respect to Marcus for sharing this story and yes third time is the charm!
Marcus is awesome for sharing his story, makes everyone think about their habits and what is important in life. You boys buying him a different watch was totally awesome! Good for everyone involved!!!
Wow. I don’t even know where to start on this one. Huge hug to Marcus for sharing his story and for the massive strides he’s made in his life over the last year or so. I’ve been sober since 2004 and his story was an incredible reminder that it doesn’t matter how long you’ve got under your belt - it’s all about staying strong today, because all that darkness can come right back if you lose the resolve. A great and unexpected reminder against complacency. But the positive takeaway is that every day is infinitely better without the chaos and hurt of the way things were before. Every time I put on a nice watch now - especially the most special one from my wife - it’s a small symbolic reminder of how I’ve been able to get my sh*t together and turn life around. I hope anybody out there listening to this who feels the darkness today hears Marcus’s story and will know that, however hard the first steps might be, a better life is definitely on the other side. Life can be bright and happy again. Love you guys and love you for giving this kind of thing the space and time in the community 🙏✊
Wow you have wrapped the scenario up so well complete with a bow on top. Your right re your comment about complacency. Its an everyday resolve and decision that you have to keep making. But, we just gotta keep asking that same question. Which life do you want and how much are you prepared to risk. If you can answer this question it will get you closer to figuring out which side of the line you are on. I really cant explain how much has changed since I changed coarse. I am so grateful that I have made it to this side and given up with the constant excuses and justifications. Life can be better. Life is better. BUT Life is still a challenge. But I wanna win this race. SO I keep getting up, and keep running. Thanks heaps for your thoughts Adam. Means a lot. And so great hearing that your still resolved in the world of sobriety.
Thanks Marcus. You just shared what it is to be a genuinely good human being: acknowledge when you f*ck up, aspire to be better, change something to make it happen.
Amazing, Marcus. Good things come to those that deserve them, and all of your experiences resonate with not only the watches but also, most importantly, with the Hamlet quote on your chips. Congratulations Marcus. You have been true to yourself, and the dedication and care from the boys shines through. Brilliant. Haven't cried that much since the last time I watched Dead Poets Society.
Holy smokes Raymond. It’s been such a journey. I’m really glad the message hits the mark. Meaning is everything. In the watches we buy to the AA tokens that remind us of life changing decisions. For me this was so big. And to bring the story to the world stage was very nerve racking but the effect this decision has had on my life is so positive that if the story can cast light on shadows out there then I’m glad to contribute. As always Raymond. Fantastic to read your thoughts. ❤
THIS is so much better than "the darkest secrets" episode because this is the real dark secrets of being human. We're messy, sometimes abhorrant, beings that make every other animal look like an angel compared to us. Go Marcus! He's telling the real truth of the struggles of living as a human. And his connection to his watch is the fucking real connection us everyday guys feel to their watches. I don't have a kid to pass my watch on to. But when I die, I hope my wife will look at my watches and remember the good times we spent together when she sees them. Bless him. He gets it. Fucking love that the other guys get it too. They gave him a watch that he can pass on to his younger son. THAT'S class.
Wow. Now this is pretty amazing to read Astor. Wow. Means a lot to hear. This was very nerve racking for me to put out there but the story needed to be told. I’m so grateful to have made it to the other side and if it helps just one other person out there then I’m happy. And yes these watches carry our stories. I’m sure your wife gets that. Thanks so much for your comment.
Wow. Just, wow. I can go to any watch channel to look at reviews or listen to someone prattle on. But this, this is why this channel is so special. It’s what watches mean to us, how they reflect times and moments. Whether it’s Andrew talk I guess about the dark side of watch making, Adrian sharing his ‘fuck you’ watch, George talking about what makes him smile and now Marcus. This channel is special.
This isn’t just a story, the way it connects to the whole AET chronology is incredible; I feel sad that Marcus carried that burden through that first series, it never ever showed, that time was really special. It’s so great that you’ve shared this now and the bond of you 4 is just wonderful, I was on the edge of my seat watching this. Sending love ❤️
This is the best episode by a country mile. No bullshit or shilling just a heartfelt tale about Marcus and his relationship with his first luxury watch and alcohol 👏
I know we shouldn’t compare podcasts, but I came to this episode after watching Ben Clymer’s new video podcast on a halo project we won’t ever see and an hour of talking watches with celebrities. This episode is so much more thoughtful and engaging than anything else out there right now and hearing Marcus’s story and his connection to a watch as he goes through different chapters of his life and ascribes meaning to this inanimate object was really powerful. Not once did he talk about the specs or the typical stuff we hear from other pods out there and yet it’s the type of stuff that makes me open up my watch case and put away my Apple Watch. Additionally, I really liked the ending with the special gift for Marcus. That was so thoughtful and generous. It’s great to see vulnerability and honest storytelling today.
Wow. Thanks so much for the in-depth feedback. It’s super encouraging for us in the group to read. I sent this message to the fellas to make sure they caught it. Really glad it’s hitting the mark for you.
This episode was an absolute emotional rollercoaster. Marcus’ story is so wholesome, devastating, and hopeful too. Awestruck does not even begin to describe my reaction to this video. Thank you guys for sharing stories like this.
It warms me to see such passionate and intense cameraderie. You guys saw a mate down and out, and you said “no, fuck that he’s our mate and we’re gonna show him what he means to us.” Andrew’s stern face when pulling the 39 out of the drawer… was like “fuck yeah man, we have your fucking back”. Left me a little misty-eyed. Love it guys!
My heart... my poor heart... Marcus, Stay strong! You´re one hell of a man, and I just know you´re an amazing farther as well. I have the greatest respect for you and all that you have powered through!
Wow incredibly powerful episode. My wife found me teary eyed in front of the tv. She was wondering how watch shows can make men cry. Thanks and ❤ to Markus.
Oh wow Eric that’s INCREDIBLE. And what I love about this is that it’s really getting at the heart of this obsession. These watches carry so much meaning and can actually shape life changing decisions like this one. I never would have believed it if someone would have told me before hand. Super glad it hit the mark with you my friend.
@@marcusflack1523 yes totally. The more i meet watch afficionados the more i see how they always have 1 or 2 pieces with either a super dark or super deep (or both) meaning. I sometimes call them ‚horcruxes‘ like in Harry Potter (sounds childish but hear me out). They are objects which carry a piece of our souls with them.
I must admit I’ve never really engaged in any of your content before (Adrian excepted) … but this was a real tear jerker. Marcus is to be applauded for his honesty and vulnerability… and the final reveal of your gifted Pelagos was a lovely heart-felt moment. It great to see such a close bond between you all. I’ll have to pay closer attention to your work in future. All the best… Steve 👍🇬🇧
Thank you for sharing your story Marcus. It has helped out so many people, you’ll never be able to count. Gents, you all are so generous and awesome in supporting your friend. This podcast just went to a whole other level for me. Massive kudos and I really hope you all come back soon for Season 5!
@@marcusflack1523 congratulations Marcus!!!! That’s so wonderful! God is great! You never know how He will use our struggles to help others. You have helped others by sharing your story. God bless you!

Sam Sam Sam. Always a pleasure to read your thoughts. And super thanks for your comment here. Means a great deal to read stuff like this. Great your hear for the journey.
Wow that was a very powerful episode. I didn’t see the ending coming at all. What a great gesture from the team for a guy who has faced his demons and has chosen the right path for him and his family. It couldn’t have been gifted to a more deserving person IMO
What a memorable and incredible episodes of honesty, strength and friendship. This has to be one of my favourite youtube episodes full stop. A lot of people can associate with Marcu's initial struggles and the redemption of the warm glow of sunlight thats felt on his face. Beautiful work gentlemen.
I've been watching this channel for the last couple of days, probably because I watched a few of your videos and now RUclips recommendations them for me. So this morning I clicked on this particular video not knowing the content, just that someones watch changed their life. I needed to see this, today is my sober date, January 9, 1995 !! A DAY AT A TIME, that's all we have !! Great video !!
@marcusflack1523 Bro, we both have today, that's all that matters ! Every morning I say to myself, "drinking isn't an option today", and tomorrow I'll wake up (God willing) and say the same thing. It's that simple. And if no one told you that they love you today, I do. That was an awesome video, and I'll bet super hard but really good for you, DAY AT A TIME BROTHER .
Well then, that touched some feels. That was just an amazing story and nice to see that good from something that haunts some people. Amazing job guys. Bravo to Marcus for being a brave fella on today's episode
WOW! What an amazing eppisode and heartfelt story. Well done on your sobriety, I was in tears watching this and glued to the screen. I am 13 days clean myself as of watching this on Sat 21st Oct 23. I had the opposite problem I would get hammered blackout and not remember ordering watches the night before (all my drinking happened at home). Then two days later an expensive watch would turn up and I would have to send it back. Bloody nightmare! Thank you for sharing this, all of you guys are awesome. I look forward to more video content, this is the best watch video I have seen in the last 10 years of any channel I have viewed. Thank goodness for second and third chances! 🙏🙏🙏
WOw .....thats quite a story indeed. Incredible what can happen in a blackout. Only people like us will really understand it fully. And hey thats great news re your sobriety. It will pay off. Find something incredible to replace it with. Then onwards and upwards. Thanks for being on the journey with us
Thank you for personally replying to me that means so much and is incredibly kind of you. I will keep going I promise you that, I have two kids and am married also. I have ADHD and ASD as well as really loud tinnitus which was the thing that got me drinking in the first place. I find great joy in watches and the watch community and am glad I came across your channel. You do amazing videos and are all really genuine which is so refreshing. Take care Marcus and keep on inspiring people your story is amazing! Have a great weekend. Johnny@@marcusflack1523
I expected to just watch a normal episode of my favorite show. Didn't expect to come to tears. Cheers to you, Marcus, you absolute LEGEND. You are appreciated.
Yes for us this journey keeps surprising us as well. Sometimes it’s hard to define what this show is. Clearly it’s about watches. But it’s the journey of friendship that goes along with it that makes this so much more 3 dimensional. Thanks for your thoughts. Means a lot.
we came here to hear about watches - and now we've heard soooo much more about life in general. thank you marcus. this is going to change some peoples lifes for sure.
What a moving story, and a great bunch of mates! I wasn’t crying! The screen was bright, and the air conditioner was blowing in my eyes, and I had some spicy food, and ……. Aw heck, today I’m wearing my BB58 with a new appreciation.
Marcus, I have shared your struggles and still do on a daily basis. This episode is about so many things, rock bottom, fuckups, vices. Being a functional alcoholic is a real problem. But more than anything, this shines of fatherhood and friendship. Well done boys.
Yeah I think you have nailed that one. It is about friendship and manhood. Great to be in the room with these guys sharing this story. And so encouraging to read the comments here to see how its landing with everyone. Completely overwhelmed!
Wow what a moment it was. Total surprise. I have never ever had a life surprise like that. Like something out of a movie. Just blew me away. What a magical moment.
@@marcusflack1523 I haven't had a moment like this either - yet. But one of my close friends is getting me a watch as a late birthday present / thank you gift for helping him through a tough time. It'll be a Casio DW290-1V (Mission: Impossible watch) so I'm very much looking forward to when I get that. I hope you've been enjoying the Pelagos!
Very powerful episode. I got a Tudor BB58 S&G in December 2021. My best friend of 16 years passed the month before. It was my first proper watch and I bought it in memory of him. Every time I look at it I remind myself of the old times. I feel I have gone down a certain path and this inspires me to move the direction of the path before it is too late, thank you!
Hands down. Incredible comment. You have articulated when the penny really drops in this hobby. The meaning we park with the object elevates the object in its value exponentially. I’m sorry to hear your friend passed away. But I’m glad you have a talisman to to carry their memory. Go well my friend. And super glad to have you come on the journey with us.
Wow! That was a really emotional and incredibly authentic episode! I've been watching about effing time since the first episode and I've grown really fond of all of you! Marcus, you have earned my full respect for this episode (even more than you already had)! It shows greatness to tell your story so openly and honestly. What a role model for your children and many people out there! You can be really proud of yourself! Thank you all and keep up the good work!
I've seen this episode about 4 times... I was there in the room... and STILL it gives me the chills. Marcus is that man for sharing this story!
Massive big hug to you Captain. Was such a comfort sharing this storey first with you guys at the table and now to the world.
Certainly just got a bit dusty in my lounge … 😢
Powerful stuff!! Well done guys
Well Marcus, this episode just helped forge my day. Thanks again for keeping it 💯
yeah, not just a great watch podcast episode. A great podcast episode period.
One of the great bits about this episode is watching Andrew watch his mate be vulnerable and tell his story. Simultaneously protective, proud, encouraging. Just a real mate there for a mate. Well done everyone.
Marcus, you are living proof of my favorite quote: “ Life shrinks or expands according to one's courage”.
Marcus is about to explode by this logic
Hahahahaha this is the second time today someone quoted this line to me via a different line of communication. Wow. It’s a powerful one.
Anais Nin quote
I cried so much during this episode. Thanks Marcus for being so vulnerable. And thanks to George, Adrian, and Andrew for being an amazing friends. Glad to be part of this community.
Wow thanks so much.
This is such a powerful episode.. still watching it but some parts of the story really resonates. Being vulnerable is frightening but sharing it like this, kudos to you, Marcus! This ain’t just a watches podcast, it’s true mateship!
Not the ending I expected.. such a great moment!!
Yeah it was def not the ending I was expecting either. It nearly knocked me off my seat. And yes this is Nate ship at its core. Thanks for the comment means a lot.
@@marcusflack1523thank you for sharing your story!!
Dear god.. I absolutely loved this episode. Marcus - a massive shout out to you - not just for opening up the book of Marcus for all of us, but for making us ( atleast me) renew my belief in the power of resolve.
Adrian, George, Andrew - what an amazingly beautiful gesture. We all have to thank this amazing camaraderie for making AET what it is…
THANK YOU!
Thanks so much for your kind words
I would never have the balls to share something like Marcus did. Such a powerful story. Get him on the round table more often!
The way Andrew's looking at Marcus.......good bond right there.
Our understanding goes mega deep. Many hours together under all kinds of pressure. This experience solidified our bond forever. Love him to bits.
That's true brotherhood.
Freakinig great words to read my friend. Super glad it held you for an hour but more to the point hit the right marks for you.
Amazing episode
Huge respect to Marcus for his honesty and vulnerability.
It's so powerful isn't it. It's easy to label the watch a watch, an item, but as soon as you connect it to your kids, it completely changes it.
Still gives me shivers. And super glad it’s hitting the mark. Thanks for the comment. Means a lot.
Absolutely. I look forward to the credit on your heirloom episode Adrian 😉
I'm literally in tears by the end! Marcus, you are an absolute rock star! Like many, I have my own struggles and your story is an inspiration. Congrats on the 2 new Tudors! May you and your kids wear them always in safety and in good health!
I wonder if Son #1 will want the Pelagos 39 now! 🤣
Keep it up.
Thanks so much for the encouragement. Means a lot. I really does.
Fantastic feedback. And well done on your sobriety. Encouraging to hear the long termers stories as well.
Yeah lean into those emotions. They can guide you more than you are aware half the time.
Oh I hadn’t watched until the end and now I’m in floods. You guys.
Yeah and you know what. Its what we like the best as well. Thanks for your thoughts James. Brilliant
Great episode.
then that makes 2 of us that will pass it on. I will give my Pelegos to my second son.
I am not crying, marcus is crying.
Who's cutting onions?!?!
I’m not crying. It’s just raining on my face. Hahahahahaha
It’s dusty in here 🧹
We have such a difficult time talking about feelings and it is so encouraging to see the support that you have for one another.
@@marcusflack1523thanks for taking the time. My thoughts are with you.
wow....I think youre right. What an arc huh! still shaking my head when I watch it. Thanks for your comment bro...means a lot
All of you are AWESOME!!!!! Great family. Love this feeling you share with us. Amazing friendship. No words.
You are sooo very welcome. So glad the friendship comes access so transparently. And super glad to have you along on the journey with us.
Im very very greatful for Andrew. A true friend whos been to hell n back with me
I’ve been catching up with the episodes and this one was on a whole other level.
Absolutely the best episode of any watch podcast, genuinely so moving.
🤟🏼🤟🏼🤝🤝
I am actually crying watching this. I've also overcome struggles with alcohol...I also have a Pelagos 39...Love this show. Love to you Marcus. X
Indeed. The Meaning behind the watch is what gives it its value. And that’s not because of some in house movement. Haha.
Guys - thank you for this episode! MARCUS is a superhero, the amount of courage he's showing is incredible!
This is what it's all about gents. Community, love, support, passion, family. Thank you Marcus for sharing your story with us - you're inspirational - complete legend! I love the brotherhood on display here 🙏
Such a powerful story about a man, his weakness, his strength to move on and a beautiful friendship ❤ thanks guys
Amen to that 🎉🎉🎉
That’s a very special episode that crosses over from watch to life and back again. Very important sharing. Thanks to all of you.
Tears be flowing…appreciate the vulnerability and incredible heart of this episode. Thanks again guys!

Family, friendship and self improvement. That’s what life’s about right there.
Grown men are useless at sharing their problems so well done to have the courage to express yours Marcus.
I’m a watch collector and a recovering alcoholic and I am so fucking proud of you Marcus, keep going, it is such a wonderful gift you are giving your family!!!
Wow. Thanks for the light up. Means a lot. It really does.
Speechless... This is an ode to watches and FRIENDSHIP. Thank you guys.
Wow that’s super well said.
Just incredible to hear
that moment blew me completely away. Incredible to have it on camera
One of the best episodes yet! Huge respect to Marcus for talking openly about this. So happy for him that he has such amazing friends as you guys. This was beautiful!
Tough session, as a medic and someone who sees the after effects, welldone guys for raising and educating folk. Most genuine RUclips team out there. ❤
wow thanks for your words. Pretty sure you have seen all kinds of stages in poeple. scarey stuff indeed.
Thanks heaps. means a lot
@@marcusflack1523 ❤️
Thanks Marcus. You just shared what it is to be a genuinely good human being: acknowledge when you f*ck up, aspire to be better, change something to make it happen.
FARK YESSSSS
Thanks so much for your comment.
fuck me dead, this episode, so much love in the room, just watching Andrew listen and understand his mate is everything
I just love these guys. Like I needed another reason to watch these videos. Thank you all for the content and lessons.
Wow.
Ohhh thanks heaps for your kind words!
Such a fantastic story and a 2 years clean alcoholic, MASSIVE respect for the share! Purely uplifting, go Marcus!!!

Oh wow Eric that’s INCREDIBLE. And what I love about this is that it’s really getting at the heart of this obsession. @@marcusflack1523 yes totally. The more i meet watch afficionados the more i see how they always have 1 or 2 pieces with either a super dark or super deep (or both) meaning.
Ahhh thats awesome!
We need more of Marcus! ❤❤ What a lovely episode. You’re all such sweeties…. Very very good to see in this day and age. Love it. Keep it up!!
Powerful conversation, 4 top blokes and such a great thing to see. Bravo gents!
When you guys gave Marcus the Pelagos I started crying that was so amazing!
Wow what a moment it was. Total surprise. I have never ever had a life surprise like that. Like something out of a movie. Just blew me away. What a magical moment.
It was such a special moment.
Ahhhh wow. Thansk so much for your words. Means a lot to read. Thanks for being on the journey with us
