I dont know of its been said but at 8:29 i believe he strummed the spings in back of the guitar that keep tension on the whammy bar. Then after that he uses the volume knob to get the chelo sound.

I have to disagree.. Edward was the best.. just like Michael Jordan was to basketball.. sure.. LeBron may own the scoring title..but Michael didn't play 37 season's like he has..if you really pay attention.. you will know who's the best..and Edward was the best..no ands..if's..but's or maybe's....

@@MThomas5150 As basketball goes, Pistol Pete Maravich still owns a good majority of records. In college at LSU, Pete scored 68 points in one game. He still holds the all time scoring record 50 years later, despite there being NO 3 point shot at that time, NO shot clock, and Freshmen due to NCAA rules could not play on the varsity. So he set all those records playing in just 3 seasons. It only took Pete 26 games to reach 1,000 points where it took Shaq 52. I don’t like any of these “Best ?” lists because there are so many that are the best at the style they play. I’d bet John Petrucci could EVH’s music but Eddie couldn’t play John’s. The guys in Dream Theater may all be the G.O.A.T. with their instruments. Buy I don’t like lists. 🙂

Eddie’s great at what he does but his solos are mostly gimmicky sound effects. You want to hear solos that are their own songs within songs, listen to Michael Schenker’s solos with UFO, The Scorpions, and his solo projects. Listen to the outro to Love To Love or the outro to Profession Of Violence by UFO. Those solos have SOUL! Eddie’s just doodling. Michael Schenker was entirely self taught.

You realize that Edward was self thought too, correct? This is basically four solos put together …. 13 minutes of music that came from years of piano - that’s why he plays the way he does, it’s his piano background….The dude’s sound effects are all self created …

EVH didn’t invent tapping or volume swells, he did however took them to another level. Same thing with the beginning of mean street, he was interviewed about that and he said he seen a bass player doing it so he did his own thing with it. The biggest problem with EVH is he never got any better after his first few albums.

I gotta agree with the gimmicky thing, most of his solos were a brief burst of notes and a bunch of the same lame tapping stuff.🍻

      @@oceanlives4915
Oh, I see, when someone taps or bass slaps it copying EVH but when he does it it’s innovative. The beat it solo is gimmicky just like 80% of all his other solos. Hell, he wasn’t even the best guitarist in 78 when His first album came out. Allen Holdsworth and Al DiMeola are way better guitarist/musicians than EVH. Hell, Randy Rhoads was hot on his heels with only two albums that were recorded in one year. Jeff Watson was doing eight finger tapping in the early 80’s that was a lot more difficult than the same old tapping EVH did for decades that he never improved on. Take any shredder like Yngwie,Tony Mcalpine,Vinnie Moore,Jason Becker,Paul Gilbert leave him in the dust. His solos are boring compared to any one of those guys. EVH was on top for a relatively short time before newer players out played and out preformed him. I like EVH but he wasn’t a difficult nut to figure out unlike others that came after him.

Eddie van Halen was born in Amsterdam and his family moved to the US when he was very young. He is considered one of the best guitar players of all time, and I agree. The first ever single I ever bought myself was Running with the Devil in 1980... which my mother was not happy about :D ... in those days smoking was allowed everywhere: at home, in bars, in your office, in trains and even on planes.

What an unforgiving mistake!he is totally different from all the “ famous “ lead guitarists. Smiling almost all the way in this solo unlike David or Steve, who have to go trough their solo in pain. Eddie Van Halen played his different things that he had discovered when he was teaching himself the guitar. He never took a lesson and he was completely self taught and he made his own guitar because he could not find a guitar that had everything that he wanted a xss guitar to have so he by built it himself and now his guitar is one of the largest selling guitars that is sold now. He was and is probably the greatest guitarist that has ever lived and has inspired more people to pick up the guitar than anyone else since the 1970's when his band first came out. He is known as "King Edward " by his fans. I have been a Van Halen fan for most of my life and I recommend that you take a deep dive down the Van Halen rabbit hole. Starting with the early music and going to the most recent before he died. His son Wolfgang has a band and he has his father's musical genius.

    Hi Inna !!!
    Another great reaction!!!! Bravo !!!
The first things I want to tell you are...Hold!! Do not change!! Keep It up!!!! I tell you this because I am sadly watching many reaction channels disappear on YT, and I hope that your channel stays alive for a long time and that it grows, more, more and more.
I have been following you for some time but I have never written to you because: (1) I am quite shy with people I don't know, and (2) I have no time enough, and (3) muy english smells like a dead ratt inside a dead cat (as you can read un this comment) Trying to improve It but, again, with no time enough.
Since you like the guitar (this vídeo from EVH Eruption it makes me think that) I would like to make you a recommendation, if you allow me.
Since you are very young, I want to recommend this song from 1985 (I'm sure that in that year you weren't even a little person project) and maybe you don't know.
    HEAR N'AID - "STARS"
The Hear n' Aid project was metal's response to pop music charities such as Band Aid and USA For Africa; whose organizers had not invited anyone from hard rock/metal (as almost always, very reviled) So the metalheads did it on their own.
Hear n' Aid was founded in 1985 by Ronnie James Dio, a long-time contributor to numerous charitable projects over the years. Hear n' Aid didn't get much media coverage and didn't achieve box office sales like Band Aid or USA for Africa, but it generated a respectable amount of revenue.
Ronnie James Dio (Dio/Black Sabbath/Rainbow/Elf), Jimmy Bain (Dio/Rainbow) and Vivian Campbell (Dio/Def Leppard) were responsible for writing "Stars", the single originally written that would help generate income for the hunger.
In May 1985, Dio gathered more than 40 hard rock/metal musicians from around the world, and they recorded the song "Stars."
The following is a list of lead vocals:
    Ronnie James Dio: from Dio
Dave Meniketti: from Y&T (Yesterday & Today)
    Rob Halford: from Judas Priest
    Kevin Dubrow: from Quiet Riot
Eric Bloom: from Blue Oyster Cult
    Paul Shortino: from Rough Cutt
    Geoff Tate: from Queensryche
    Don Dokken: from Dokken
The highlight, for me, is the guitar solo, which consists of 7 chained guitar solos, in turn divided into several parts, but perfectly united so that it almost seems like a single solo. The transitions are perfect. And, although it is quite long, I am sure it will stay in your head.
    GUITAR SOLOS:
    - 1st solo in 4 parts: Craig Goldy/Eddie Ojeda/Craig Goldy/Eddie Ojeda (from the bands Giuffria/Twisted Sister)
    - 2nd solo in 3 parts: Vivian Campbell/Brad Gillis/Vivian Campbell (from the bands Dio/Night Ranger)
    - 3rd solo in 3 parts: Neal Schon/George Lynch/Neal Schon (from the bands Journey/Dokken)
    - 4th solo in 3 parts: Yngwie Malmsteen/Vivian Campbell/ Yngwie Malmsteen (from the bands Yngwie Malmsteen/ Dio)
    - 5th solo in 4 parts: George Lynch/Carlos Cavazo/George Lynch/Carlos Cavazo (from the bands Dokken/Quiet Riot)
    - 6th solo in 2 parts: Brad Gillis, Craig Goldy (from the bands Night Ranger, Giuffria)
    - 7th solo: Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser (from the band Blue Oyster Cult) Last solo and Outro of this part.
All of the melodic guitars (or rhythm guitars) lines were performed by Adrian Smith and Dave Murray (both from Iron Maiden).
    Bass: Jimmy Bain (from Dio)
    Drums: Vinny Appice (from Dio)
    Keyboards: Claude Schnell (from Dio)
This song has the great advantage that, by having numerous singers and guitarists, all of them of very high level, it will allow you to decide if any of them deserve to be heard with their respective bands. This is the song that I always recommend to get started in the world of hard rock/metal.
REACT OR NOT REACT, THAT IS THE QUESTION....
If you decide to react to this recommendation,...WoW!!!
I hope you like it as much as I do.
But if you decide not to react, I will understand, cause you must receive thousands of recomendations and not everything can be addressed. And I will continue being a subscriber to your Channel and giving you likes, whatever you decide. It is a recommendation, not an order. There are people who get very angry when their suggestion is not heeded. Your Channel, your rules. No one has to tell you what to do and what not to do.
Anyway, if you decide not to react, I highly recommend that you listen to this song in private, just for yourself, because I really think you will like it.
Make sure you get a correct link. My favorite is this one below:
    ruclips.net/video/xl15Wj2MwUw/видео.htmlsi=rvza6yPHdLXSzyRm
...although the list of lead guitars is divided incorrectly in the video. Trust the list I gave you above because I have an original vinyl and it appears like this (and you can check it by watching the video)
    CONCLUSION:
This song is a "kind of summary" of the hard rock/metal of the first half of the 80s
    Greetings from Spain!
(Wow, if I write to you again I will try to be much shorter, since this looks like the complete works of Shakespeare....)

You need to listen to Michael Schenker’s solos on Love To Love and Rock Bottom, etc. by UFO. Michael was entirely self taught. His solos are songs within songs. They have soul and emotion.

3 years ago today the world lost the Greatest Guitarist Ever...RIP King Edward...I had the Great fortune of seeing him Live 16 times and was blown away every time...He was the epitome of cool with that cigarette tucked behind the low E string, the Coolest looking guitar ever, the Greatest guitar tone in history and that smile, Oh man that smile. When he smiled he looked like he knew the secret to Everything but wasnt quite ready to share it with the rest of us mere mortals...I cried my eyes out the day he died and I do it every year on the anniversary of his passing...

Edward Van Halen is considered by most, to be the greatest rock guitarist of all time. Aside from playing, he also designed and built guitars and amplifiers with different guitar companies. He has influenced a couple of generations now of guitar players. Sadly, we are approaching the anniversary of his untimely death to cancer in 2020. RIP Eddie.

Thank you Inna for this awesome reaction. IMHO Eddie Van Halen is the G.O.A.T. Wish you had Super Thanks on this video. Would have loved to show my appreciation for your honest opinion and those gorgeous eyes. Sorry, I'm just a sucker for a pretty face. TINA S. (French guitarist) does a cover of "ERUPTION" at age 14 that is equally amazing. But I highly recommend her guitar version of Beethoven's "MOONLIGHT SONATA".

This is a combination of guitar pieces. The beginning is called "for Wolfie" for his son Wolfgang, Eruption, and a lot of improv. The actual solo on the album is around 3 or 4 minutes.

Listen also to Stevie Ray Vaughan playing Texas Flood - this is a great rock solo - SRV's is equally as good in the blues genre - and just to help it's "Van Hay-len" - his tappiung technique makes it sound harder than it actually is, but he is absolutely a fantastic guitar player; his flat picking is pretty amazing - of course it is legal to smoke on stage
