When I met John Saxon at The Chiller Expo back in 2003 I was looking at his photos on the table which he had and the first thing he said to me was "Don't ask me about Bruce Lee"
I am not a Wing Chun man but the straight blast does work and also the front leg lock-out kick to the front knee. Some of the inside blocking also works.
KFG, please do an interview with Sifu Cheng Chuen Fun whilst you're in HK. I'm sure he has fascinating stories about his training in Kung Fu and the early days with GM Leung Ting. I've always looked upon him as the silent achiever of the WT lineage.
A good idea could be since you would be going to Hong Kong to take a few reels with sifu Mak che kong and sifu Lin tin loi. A few questions about their style, maybe a few videos for the shorts. They will get some advertisement, you may differentiate your content and help with the monetization... Kind regards. (Finally some European, but non EU, freshening air on the podcast, with Mickey's proper English) :)
Regarding the chinatown gangster stories topic, there is an NYC based ex-detective that worked the chinatown district and has 2 youtube channels called 'Chinatown gang stories' and 'forgotten streets' he interviews and knows a lot of the guys who were in those gangs from the 70'-90's. Would be a great guest for a podcast on that topic and it wouldn't turn into a book report haha. Keep up the great work, I look forward to your podcast every week.
Ush! Sifu Richter much respect and love, I had read that the reason they took him to Queen Elizabeth hospital was because Baptist was not equipped to do the proper treatment for heart failure or resuscitation but that Elizabeth hospital was because that’s where they took him the first time he passed out and were able to revive him!
John Boy was from the Waltons. Battle Beyond the Stars is a strange Star Wars/Magnificent Seven (Seven Samurai?) hybrid. The space cowboy was played by George Peppard from the A Team. However, Robert Vaughn, who was in the Magnificent Seven, plays a non cowboy character in Battle Beyond the Stars
@@TheKungFuGenius I have a Bruce documentary and Jessie gives a tour of Seattle. He shows Ed's grave and says he's going to be buried next to him. He takes the viewer to Bruce's hangouts. It's a good documentary .👍🙏🙏🙏
The race to Baptist Hospital is a fun, kick in the head idea! Gotta film it and have color commentary, stats, profiles of the competitors, and on and on! ! Perhaps break into "our regularly scheduled programming" (of the KFG Podcast, of course) with real-time updates. HaHa! Would cheerleaders be asking too much? Sounds like a SNL skit.
Another random question: What was up with that wood chipper scene in Rumble in the Bronx? That scene traumatized me as a kid who thought he was watching another lighthearted Jackie Chan movie
25:37 Alex’s KUNG FU is 💯percent vicious. He’s only saying “We need to be able to land a hit and not just know every move under the sun, and have every award to go with it. Not never winning a real fight doesn’t help people to be teachers. Relating to how you said people get butt hurt when you have the audacity to suggest MMA style sparring and cardio training. I’ll give you questions.” “I want the TRUTH!” “You Can’t handle the truth!” “I’ve got a bigger responsibility than you could possibly fathom, and I neither have the time nor the inclination to sit here and answer your Drieson Hypotheticals” “Did you put those drug letters on video?” “ I did the job, I did what had to be done.” “Did You Read Those Drug Letters On Video!” “ YOU’RE GOSH DARN TOTEN HOTIN NANY RIGHT I DID!”
I remember, back in the day, hearing about punching someone in the nose the same way you described here and, the funny thing, I wasn’t doing martial arts 😅
Hello, question for the KFG: a book on Chin Na Fa was suggested for me via Amazon. What do you know about how Chinese grappling techniques compare to that of Jiu-jitsu, Aikido, etc.? And, if it's effective, why isn't Chin Na Fa more well known (suspecting it's due to cultural quietness?) Best, Jessica
Bruce Lee was the coolest guy on the film, but Roper is the coolest character, the guy goes to the island to have fun, he earns some cash betting on his own fights, he gets laid with the mistress of the island, and beats the toughest of Han´s man, after Han ruined his holiday by killing his best buddy... Btw, Saxon was a really unappreciated actor
18:03 because they don’t really listen to the whole show. They don’t know .. 😂see.. we caught em. 😂it’s like, “Yo... I got smoke with that dude DRE fam.” 😂
Thank you for answering my question, and for the awesome Tong stories! Sticking with the Tong theme, and the ongoing discussion of Bruce Lee depictions, I thought Andrew Koji did a fantastic job as "Ah Sahm" in "Warrior" on Cinemax. How do you think Andrew Koji and "Warrior" compare to David Carradine and "Kung Fu"? Is "Warrior" truly "truer" to Bruce Lee's original screenplay idea? Or did they also go off in their own direction.
What is your opinion if someone wants to learn a martial art from different places, like Wing Tsun from one school and then from another teacher but it’s still WT, or maybe karate but different styles of karate like Kyokushin and shotokan and kenpo, or maybe just stick to Korean styles like Tango Soo Do, Taekwondo, Tukong, but it’s not a training in different style like Chinese and Japanese and Korean like Kung Fu with judo and Hapkido, what are the pros and cons, is that a good thing why or why not
I won't lie, when I watched Enter the Dragon, I did expect a Bolo vs Bruce Lee fight and when it went to John Saxon I was kinda pissed As for Jimmy Wang Yu, that fight with Donnie at the end of WuXia was pretty awesome and probably his best martial arts display on screen, I did enjoy The Chinese Boxer and One Armed Swordsman but other than that all his other films were mediocre at best.... I do have to show a little bit of respect because apparently he saved Jackie Chan's life from Triads involved in the Hong Kong film industry and got him out of a terrible contract.... But other than that, I am aware that he was nothing but a troublemaker and was quite the scumbag, especially because he had some Triad connections Now one has to ask about yet another Shaw regular who has the "primacy effect", Lo Lieh from Five Fingers of Death.... What are you thoughts on him KFG? As far as I know he too wasn't an actual martial artist but some of his onscreen fights were pretty awesome, especially his numerous villainous roles like the infamous Pak Mei in Clan of the White Lotus
I think that when people ask who would win, a taekwondo guy or karate, which is better of function, Capoeira or Silat, I think it depends on a lot of things, first if the karateka is in a Taekwondo tournament then the Taekwondoen will win, if the Taekwondoin is in a karate competition then the karateka will win, but what about in the street, well it’s possible that a karateka could defeat a Taekwondo practitioner, then a Kung fu guy beat the karate guy, but then also the Taekwondo guy beat the Kung Fu practitioner, probably depends on who gets the lucky shot, who is faster or stronger, endurance, experience, persistent, doesn’t get tunnel vision or gets angry, is used to fighting outside in the elements, who wants it more and is more driven, able to adapt to change, what do you think
How much would you say is the percentage to win mental and emotional or psychological, like I’ve heard that if you can psych out your opponent before the fight even starts you probably already won, I heard that if you show up a little late or at least not early to the fight and show like it’s no big deal so you’re calm and collected like I’ve done this before and I do it all the time so it messes with your opponents mind that has been waiting and anxious, however if you’re not early then you don’t have time to warm up and maybe practice, so is it better to be there early like trying to show that you love to fight so you’re early cause you can’t wait to kick some,,,,stuff,,so maybe the opponent thinks you’re crazy and mad that you’re waiting and you’re staring your opponent down seriously to intimidate, like it’s going to go down and all heck is going to break loose, “Now what’s the matter with you guys, Huh?, this is supposed to be an exhibition you understand an exhibition! You’re not going to stop nothing, no matter what, Throw the towel! Stop the fight! Creed is down! What started out as a joke has turned out to be a disaster, If he dies he dies”
