Over 20 years, 11 albums and hundreds of performances around the globe, Savatage’s dynamic music - which mixes elements of thrash, progressive, power metal and classic hard rock- earned the band a passionate cult following.
Founded in Tampa, Florida by brothers Jon and Criss Oliva, Savatage saw their many musical triumphs overshadowed by personal tragedy. Albums such as 1987’s “Hall of the Mountain King” - their first of eight collaborations with producer and mentor Paul O’Neill - and 1991’s riveting “Streets: A Rock Opera” continue to be celebrated to this day. The death of Criss Oliva on the heels of the breakthrough success of 1993’s “Edge of Thorns” altered the group’s trajectory considerably.
The band experienced a renaissance with their 1995 album “Dead Winter Dead,.” and continued to display a flair for theatricality of their own on their final two albums. An epic reunion performance at 2015’s Wacken Festival before 80,000 fans - showed proof that the crowds will never be gone.

My friend sang this song when we were in high school....he passed away on April 9, 2022....this song will always be a part of him in my heart....RIP!!

I was blown away.
Fan of thrash/death and progressive metal , but Savatage (even with their ballads) are simply amazing.
Savatage is basically my soundtrack for life. Every song has it's own story that goes along with life. Just wish more people knew about them and their music.... What a crazy beautiful song....

I remember buying Edge of Thorns on Cassette back in 1993 in Miami. The first listen and astounded how good they sounded and Chris Oliva really improved his guitar playing. He was already really good but got into another dimension. Anyway the album is great. Sleep is a sweet tune to finish it. I shed some tears because it's so beautiful. What a great metal band from North Florida and yes very underrated. Thanks for uploading the video. Back in the day no Internet or RUclips so I appreciate it. The Tage rocks.
I was 12 when my (Black Sheep) uncle gave me Edge of Thorns album and it was my first Metal album. Though it was a remarkable time and experience for me it was like the first sunshine and for my family it was like the birth of the Islamic version of Antichrist !!! yes I'm from Iraq. and after all these years It's still thrilling.

in every way, this is head and shoulders above any other rock ballad. Ever.

I grew up around these guys. They are from my old neighborhood pinellas park Florida. These guys jammed
when I was little my father would sing this and master of the wind by manowar to me before I went to sleep.

25 years next week. Never forgotten.
The first time I heard this song I had been stood up for a date. I was driving around at midnight fuming, but when this came up everything seemed to make sense. I took a hike up a mountain, gazed upon the city, lay my head back and played this on my ancient CD player until the sun came up.
Had a friend back in Orlando turn me on to this band. This song speaks volumes about how a lot of us feel how the week or day should go.
I hadn't heard these guys since "gutter ballet "in the tape deck. Wow the memories are flowing now. Thank you Savatage

Oh man. Memories. I close my eyes and am transported back to my teenage years, most of which were hell, but had a few bright spots and this song reminds me of them.

I love SAVATAGE especially with Mr. John Oliva doing vocals........NOBODY replaces John Oliva........ although i must say that Zak Stevens does a great job & i really like him BUT like i said NOBODY will ever replace in Savatage the Dynamics of the AWESOME duo of John & Chris Oliva.........NOBODY !!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Wake of Magellan's Acoustic Version (piano instead of Guitar) has Jon on Lead Vocals - Zak Stevens is fantastic and what really matters to me for both versions of the song is Jon wrote it :).

Really spooky that this was the last song on the last Savatage LP that Criss appeared on before his tragic death. My all time favorite guitar player & band - best live act I've ever seen in over 50 years of concert going. Saw them on the Gutter Ballet tour in their home state of Florida - totally killer! R.I.P. Criss

Savatage another GREAT band brilliant sound nice song. I truly miss their music. very powerful sound excellent albums. They are missed but not for gotten.
What can I say ,one of the best bands of all time ,definitely one of my favorite guitarist if not my favorite, it was a sad day when Chris left us but did he really even leave ? I don't think so .I can put any one of their CDs in and listen to it for a month never getting sick of it. I hear people say , I haven't heard that in 20 years makes me sick, because how can you know of something so great and not listen to it. I guess that's just me I love metal eat sleep and breathe it nothing better, well almost. love you guys and as long as I'm breathing Savatage will always be heard and heard fucking loud. Chris R.I.P.
