      First time I heard (learnt it through Grieg, actually) I wondered if the crowd was clapping so right or the musicians following along. I bet in the end there was a bit of both. Show how great musicians and performers they are to get such an alchemy with the crowd

      Pagan music was more like the metal of those times . They used instruments like the ‘hurdy gurdy’ which produced
      sustained 5ths adagios which sounds similar as the power chord , also people used that music to get drugged and crazy at parties

    Back in the 70s and 80s metal was relatively new, you could not learn it in music school, so you got trained in classic music, this is why it had a great influence on metal.

    I'm speechless.
    They play those cellos like the instruments were part of them. It's like they're trying to surpass the limits of normal music and touch a superhuman level. I'm really impressed and I've felt shivers running down my spine so intensely like I've never felt before from a playing band. :)

    Have loved this piece since my grandmother took me to see Peer Gynt at the age of 6 a looong time ago. I think of it as the "We Will Rock You" or "Smoke on the Water" (riff-wise) of classical music. Always recognizable and completely unforgettable, esp the way these guys play it!

    I've always wondered if they use their prize-cellos when playing live on stage, or if those are reserved for studio recordings and home usage...
    A couple of them are quite old, and probably pretty valuable.
