thanks for the upload! Great rednering of a Jack London story. I was born in 1952 and read the "main" Jack London books. It was only much later as an adult when I visited Jack London State Park in Napa County that I learned of how extensive the span of his works.
Had not seen this one. NIce Mexican revolution / fight movie. From a true story even (they say). Filmed entierely in El Segundo CA, but you could almost smell the tacos and feel you're in Mexico. ARRIBA! Santa Maria, mucho bueno filmo CCC! Cinco estars. 💥💥💥💥💥
Mmm!Fighter! I don't like fight I like peace !I am a peace maker! Yes really !oh my dear Big John! You are first now ! Its OK! U missed the chat yesterday night ! Why?!?! Take care Thanks CCC !👸 🙏
The movie was based on Mexican Joe Rivers a lightweight fighter who was fouled by the Champ Midget Al Wolgast. Wolgast hit Joe in the groin and Joe connected a right cross to Wolgast jaw. They both went down, Joe was trying to get up while the referee was assisting wolgast to his feet and screaming at him to get up while counting Joe out. The customers wanted to hang the referee but the cops saved his life. Joe would have been the first Mexican to win a world boxing title. The great fighter willie Richie stopped Joe the following year. Years later Wolgast had mental problems hit the streets victim of alcoholism. Later in his death bed in a county hospital asked for Joe to be at his side and ring magazine to explain why he fouled Joe. He said his corner told him to foul Joe intentionaly because Walgast told his corner ""I can"t take this guy." If the referee had not assisted wolgast.
Have you seen those guys in the malls with the strollers, with that look on their face like they envy the dead? 'Somebody shoot me! This isn't the mall! I'm in Hell!🤣
Let the Lord Jesus in your heart then you won't go to hell he died on the cross for you if you are the only one in the world he would have died for you don't leave this world without love God's love his Mercy is Grace his salvation his grace if we leave this world without his love we get on board the train of pain is eternal it's no fun at all I don't wish anybody to go to hell whatsoever I wouldn't wish that on my most vilest enemy
A really great flick. Hats off to Herbert Kline. I really think London (AKA John Griffith Chaney) modeled Felipé after the young Joe Stalin. Here’s why? London was in Russia at the time of the Russian Revolution. The newspaper publisher/editor of Irskra (The Spark) was Lenin also in exile as is the editor in this movie but in London, England not the US/Texas. To this day the very location of the publication’s office in London is a museum and fully intact with artifacts of the period. When Stalin joined the Social Democrats’ minority wing called the Bolsheviks, he too was not trusted by Bolsheviks but to Lenin was considered valuable because Stalin, did not hesitate to rob banks, to get the money to finance the revolution to overthrow the Tsar. In this movie the plot centers around a newspaper editor in exile and Felipé like Stalin comes up with the funds to pay the landlord in a struggle to overthrow the Mexican version of the Tsar, Porfirio Diaz. The slaughtering of the Village of Mexican peasants Filipé finds after helping the revolutionary flee is the metaphor for the most horrendous act that sparked the initial phase of the Russian Revolution against the Tsar on Bloody Sunday of 1905, when Father Gapon marched with peasants to petition the Tsar to lower prices for bread. 50:50 sound cuts off. 51:55 sound returns. Nothing like swift revolutionary justice in killing the killers of innocent peasants but this was not the reason the Tsar was killed. Unlike the revolutionaries who killed the Captain, the Bolsheviks did not act to kill the Tsar out of vengeance but to avoid White Russians backed by every colonial empire in Europe including the US surrounding Russia at the time. With the Tsar alive in captivity the pretext to invade Moscow would have been imminent. This could not happen to a starving, landless people crying for peace. Damn it! They cut off the credits. Anyway, my favorite character in this is the Texan women payed by Vanessa Brown and the boxing scene were great. Nice cutting, great rhythm, pulled you right into the ring.

Use to take my young family to JACK LONDON SQUARE in Oakland, CA many years ago. It really was a great place. Today, with Oakland now a majority minority city you take your life in your hands if you even go there as a white person. Sad.
Richard Conte is one of my favorites. Always a reliable performance.

So true.
But his portrayals a thug or lunatic were always top shelf.

Love his books. One less well known novel that is different from the rest in a way, is "The Star Rover".
In my opinion this is a .... "Classic" 🌟
