Funny, delightful, wonderful!!! And besides, Merle Oberon's character had the charming, innocent mannerisms of one of my daughters--very touching for me.
Thank-you for the entertaing movie. I like Melvin Douglas. I never saw to much of his films years back, but have seen quite a few lately. First time I ever saw Burgess Meredith was in his older years as Mr Penguin in the Batman TV show in the 1960s. He's a good actor.
In many ways, this performance by Oberon I judge to be her best on screen ever. Comedy is the very most difficult role to play. Like Lucille Ball, another astounding beauty, her comedic role here may have doomed her in the envious eyes of Hollywood, as she carried it off so well and they (most every Hollywood actress) never could.
the blond woman in My Man Godfrey is hysterical not as glamourus in that movie, I never saw this one or that one. I thought I'd seen all the old movies when AMC was American Movie Classics.
@@tommas2674, The blonde in My Man Godfrey was Carole Lombard. AMC did change its format, though I watched most of the classics on TCM, which still airs a lot of the old classic movies.
It's such a great movie! And I have always to be in a relationship where we would be the ones "Keeping up with the Bakers" every since the first time that I watched this movie, I was 14 and it made such an impression on me, I knew that I wanted to have a truly happy marriage. She came into my life when I was 23, and she was just 18. Everyone said that it would never work, but I was determined to make it work, and it has for 40 awesome, beautiful years so far, and we are still having fun, and still madly in love. I honestly plan on being around for our 65th wedding anniversary, too. Heck, I'll be only 89, just starting the prime of my life, ha, the golden years as they say. Can someone please answer me this, "WHO are they?" You always hear, "They said this, and they said that," but who are they? Ha ha! Time for me to go "keek" the little beautiful woman, Haa Haa! 😉keek! Woo-Hoo!
First time I've seen this and it was wonderful. Charming little love story with an off-side affair that really made Merle Oberon realize Melvyn Douglas was for her after all. Love these old black and white movies. Joe S

So you are around 95 years old? End of WWII was 76 1/2 years ago, have to assume you were at least 18 when you went to Germany. Not questioning your story just think it's crazy a 95 year old guy is on RUclips. Looks like you will most likely witness WWIII as well since Russia opened the gates for that officially.
@@daveallen63 The BBC has no trouble finding live Camp survivors for interviews, even though we are reminded that only they were killed. How come they have the most living today when they had the most exterminated?
Mrs. Baker repeatedly lied about her age to her Doctor. the 1st was when she said she was 22 then changed it to 24, which was still a lie. Later she admits to being married for 6yrs and getting married at 19yrs old. that would make 25yrs old.
32.50 into the movie the background people talking at the dinner table kept repeating the same words with a question sound. It sound scary when they would not stop saying the same thing over and over 😮
Extras are advised to say, "Peas an carrots" and pretend they are conversing. But not to be too animated and distract from the action in the main plot.
About to lose his marriage, the lead ploughs on. He is not to blame, seriously, as he is the victim of the superficial culture in which he is embedded. She is far more to blame, if anyone is. She lacked the insight and moral courage required to transform her marriage.
Pretty good movie BUT I don't know what she sees in the pianist. To me he's conceded probably a narcissist, quite annoying.😂 I guess that made for a lot of the humor involved😂 TY for sharing this movie.
Actually he is a very successful attorney who is taking a step down from his current income to prosecute this case. If anything financially he's earning less.
Perhaps you will be very happy if he stroke his wife, don't worry Sir there are plenty of them exists in this world who thinks striking his wife is his marital right. I like the character of Mr. Baker here who was exceptional to this male dominated world (for he loves his wife dearly so that can't strike her without taking lots of alcohol).
@@lopa2828 My humor was I thought unmistakable. I would never condone a man for striking a woman. My point was that it is legitmate to question the grounds on which unthoughtful feminists operate.
