    surprisingly very mature, respectful, and very wholesome for its time. No weird underlying sexism, sleaziness, or excusing men's poor behavior. Overall pretty positive for '49.

      @@2thouxan I think the times only disliked Black people, not Hispanics. And I'm sure racism wasn't as big back then as the mainstream media always portrays. Many Whites didn't agree with racism, even back then, that's why it ended. Also you could be Black and have Black slaves, it was more about money and status than race. But even at the height of American slavery, not even 1% of Whites owned slaves, and the vast majority of that was only in the South.
      Slavery was just part of the times and how that era was. Slavery always been all around the world, not just America. But America was then first on Earth to abolish slavery and make it illegal.

      These films were actually pretty accurate. They were basically the equivalent to a modern day documentary. They just enforced the status quo, not try to create it.
      People acted a lot differently back then.

    • @andrewyang7385
      @andrewyang7385 2 года назад +4

      @@Zack-bl2gg I've realised that theres a big difference, throughout history, between how the equivalent of the 'middle' class and the 'lower' class lived - this (1940s social hygiene video) may have been a good representation of 'middle' class kids, but look at "A West Side Story" for a representation of 'lower' class and 'under' class kids. We just see more lower/under class kids on TV and Social Media today!
      I think the idea that kids where less crazy in prior years is just plain wrong, every generation likes to believe they are special and the people before them where lame - they were pretty much us in different clothing!

    • @Zack-bl2gg
      @Zack-bl2gg 2 года назад

      @@andrewyang7385 who’s talking about the non-middle class, and who’s talking about the city, who’s talking about a fictional play, and who’s talking about the rival gangs? That isn’t related at all to the actual film. You can critique lower class and upper class society as much as you want, but this was neither.
      I’d recommend talking to middle class Americans that lived back then(such as the people that made this film, or even your grandparents) or at least not referencing a fictional film/play about the lower class gang wars that is just a modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet. Because… yknow… it’s a modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet focusing on gang wars in the city. That’s all I can really say about that. It’s not even trying to represent most lower classes, only gang lower classes.

    • @andrewyang7385
      @andrewyang7385 2 года назад +1

      @@Zack-bl2gg I meant to say under class not lower class in relation to gangs and the like - apologies. I still think my point stands that what middle class Americans did and what Americans in the underclass did and indeed throughout every society in history is different from a sociological perspective - most media represents the cultural habitus of the middle class, I just warn against imagining that every kid irrespective of class was acting this way, I don't think it's realistic.

    Dating years ago was so very easy since most women back then were very civilized with very good manners and a great personality, something they don't have today at all. Nowadays unfortunately they're so very pathetic altogether, along with their very high standards now.

      @@user-bz7pq8ew8k see I get your point and yes men are less misogynistic nowadays but they shouldn’t be praised for not being disrespectful. Women were controlled for thousands of years and are now only getting appreciation for everything they/we did. Sadly there are still very misogynistic and sexist man and this guys comment proves it. Disagree if you want, everyone has an opinion even if it’s the wrong one

      But, honestly, u can disagree with me, but there was always fight betweeb men and women. Nowadays, unfortunatly, some women hate men and some men have women and both of this is disgusting. I think, men will never stop being sexist to women and women will never being sexist to men. And that's sad honestly

    A lot of people pine for the novelty and the beaming social culture that once was, but so much has improved since then in the way of social expectations. It's more socially unacceptable to be judgemental towards others. LGBT do not have to fear being cast away in the way they once were, women are reclaiming their power and are expanding their talents and expertise in different careers than before, POC and minorities at large are challenging the societal challenges and hardships they never deserved and are welcomed largely in executive positions including presidency. My heart hopes that we will soon be able to say that we as a human race are all equal. Now all we need is to relieve this societal tension and regain this upbeat softness amongst one another.
