There's adapter harnesses you can use to plug into the old harness for the speakers if you ever get another one. The GROM connection is pretty crazy, but that's how they did it.
I know this is ages after the vid, but if you pull out the deep trinket tray in the left hand side of the trunk, there's tons of room behind it to hide an amp. That's where Volvo put their 4x100W unit.
you didn't mention the fact that these cars come with the BEST speakers out there. DYNAUDIO same exact drivers as the cast frames these are the best sounding speakers ever!
@@UpsideDownFork there is a 460+ page PDF with all the possible extras for the 850, S70, V70 and C70. In the audio section, the “Premium Sound System” by Dynaudio is available as an option only for the S70 and V70. If it would be optional for the C70 in any country of the World, it would be listed in that document. Apart from that I’ve yet to see a C70 without Dynaudio speakers. My mechanic has parted out about a dozen or more C70s from various European countries and all had Dynaudio speakers. (and I bought quite a few of them for different projects) Likewise, all C70s came with an amplifier, either 4x60W or 4x100W. A Dolby Surround decoder was offered as an extra, but it required the SC-900 or 901 radio (with the in-dash changer), and a pair of subwoofers was offered as an extra only on the convertible. On the other hand, on the second generation C70, it was optional.
You didn't need to drill a hole for the amp power cable into the firewall. There is an unused conduit, just below the ABS/traction control module which ends above the driver's footwell. It's present on all 1st generation Volvo S/V/C70s and IMHO is the best way to get a power cable in.
did this with my c70. the radio has something to do with the airbags in the car. if you disconnect the battery and disconnect the radio then hook the battery back up, the airbag light comes on and is a drag to get shut off.
There is no “can’t be done" when it comes to car audio! When in doubt, create your own molex connector, putting the pins in the appropriate spots...which is what you did. This is where it pays to find a good installer and the hourly labor charge is def worth it. You guys are very, very good....I follow a few other car audio channels and I notice they miss small details you guys always catch. Little things, like never mounting amps directly to panels, dampening speaker mounts, etc.
But this guy spent all this bill-able time when there’s a din to phono adaptor for the amp hookup, a Volvo iso adaptor, and a radio antenna adaptor, readily available, and cheap.
Can you explain how to take the side panel off I'm trying to install sup and I got a high low input I'm trying to find the speaker wires to tap into any help would be amazing
I remember reading up on these on either TubroBricks or SwedeSpeed and it was believed the actual "volume" control didn't come from the radio itself, but actually the amplifier. At that point I was like, "Volvo, you're awesome. I love you, but hell no am I getting that."
Should be 2 10's behind the back seat( i think that was an upgrade option from the Factory) .... some rear fill... 3 way active up front and a center channel also! And Dynaudio is correct Speaker Brand.
Luckyyy. I just finished up a 2007 Volvo C70 with Dynaudio. Lots of custom work. Fiber Optic MOST for radio to amps. So I was SOL there. Looked everywhere could not find a suitable adapter I could confirm would work.
This radio is a sc901, a high quality product made in japan. You can connect a usb device using the disc exchanger port. You can skip the music normally like any disc with the buttons on the radio. You also can add a subwoofer in the trunk, everything is ready. Who needs a display in a car radio? Watch the road and listen to the music! You will realise this old radio is one of the best. Try classic or guitar music and you will hear how crappy your new stuff really is. You threw away high quality that is not build anymore.
Lucky C70 owner has the basic radio & speaker. Must of the C70 came with a super nice 11speaker Dynaudio system power by Alpine amp that included a dolby center speaker with its own processor & amp.
I have a c70 and have been looking for a new car stereo but havent had any luck cuz car audio places tell me they dont have parts for a cage or harness or whatever. Can you refer me to a list of stereos suitable for a c70?
Also, on that F250 you did.... where did you push the power wire through for the Amp? I'm looking for my install im getting ready to do, its tight in there lol.
I have a 1999 Volvo s70 i up graded my radio but Volvo has two antenna plugs. I used one of the plugs but my radio to reception is bad. Why does Volvo have two plugs
Hey guys I have a C70 Volvo convertible 2010 and I wanna do a system upgrade to this car with crescendo audio mids and highs and sundown audio 12. U think it would be possible to do this install in this vehicle? Just wanted suggestions and what amps to buy. I know it might get a little pricy but wanted to do it up in this vehicle
I always remembered Volvos being the devil lol. Cars like these make you a better installer even though it seems shitty at first lol. It's nice when you have a peaceful work environment where you can concentrate and get the job done correctly. Also, having more than one installer to help out is always amazing. In my days of being an installer at a large retail chain(Best Buy), it was a hostile and horrendous environment where installers were treated horribly and there was no help as I was all alone and fed to the wolves lol. We also had very limited resources for testing the way you did. Good job fellas. You should patent that rewire you performed BTW since nobody bothered to manufacture one.
Did you guys have issues with the Air Bag light after the instal? I noticed you did not unhook the battery when you pulled the radio out and in my experience you have to do this in order to not have the Air Bag light come on.
Hi. Which amp is that? And by the way did you connect all the speakers directly to the stereo and subs to the amp or all of the speakers and sub to the amp??
Hi dean and fernando!! Big fan here!. Anyways I wanted to ask what kind of meter or tone generator that has a orange rubber casing that you use to test the speakers for sound or that you test it through the wiring harness to hear which speaker is producing sound? I was trying to find it in your tool collection site but there wasn't any...I sure need one just don't know the name of it
That one is a DIY job I made using parts from old broken ones I had. Check out the PAC one here in the tool drawer www.dandftooldrawer.com/meters-and-probs/
I'm having an issue with my Pioneer EQ 6500 pairing up with my Pac audio Loc. they don't seem to communicate well together and I get no sound. I would still like to use the factory head unit for now and the EQ 6500 ,have you got any suggestions??
Don't. If you have the factory center speaker, the best you should do is make sure the dash tweeters work, and mess around with the defeatable equalizer in the radio. The stock system is very capable and I wouldn't touch it.
I completely agree don’t mess with the original sound system if you got the sun audio nice system instead replace the nav unit in the top dash and then connect via blue tooth to the main unit super clean and best of both worlds
Can you add those little yellow crimp caps (I'm guessing that's what they are or maybe just skinny ass butt connectors) to dandftooldrawer? I keep trying to find em but to no avail. EDIT: Oh yea, great video as usual!!!
Non c'è bisogno di fare un adattatore per lo spinotto rotondo, ci sono altri 2 connettori rettangolari nel cruscotto, basta partire da la e rimuovere gli spinotti.
So from all the wires in the main harness non of them are speaker wires? Also did that go to a factory sub for the door speakers? I saw u intall rca on the speaker wires shit its a lot of work
There were 2 plugs behind the radio. The White was the main power only plug. The other one was the input for the factory amp. The factory radio used line level output, so we could use the same.
And this is how you start off your morning with another awesome episode of 5 Star Car Stereo
Works for me, thanks
this is one of those videos where it shows just how good you guys are, awesome install!!!
Very kind, thank you
I admire your clean installs and that nice trick for the wire going from back to front.
There's adapter harnesses you can use to plug into the old harness for the speakers if you ever get another one. The GROM connection is pretty crazy, but that's how they did it.
What was the brand and model number
Fun for me as a swedish follower too see you work on a swedish car :D As allways, great work guys!

Volvo worked with Dynadio when they devoleped the C70, so most (if not all) have Morel speakers from the factory.

Yes it was Dynaudio, no factory sub option.
Why would someone want to replace and SC-901? I upgraded to one in my V70 because the sound quality is so good!
Looks good. Tricky install.
