If china decides to show their naval strength and American ineffectiveness to worry the Asia Pacific, they might bite off considerably more than they can chew.
I don’t think it’s on purpose. The Houthis say they are targeting Israeli ships or ships going to Israel but I suspect they are just shooting at any ship that passes by. I doubt they are looking up ship manifest to check destination or where a ship is registered.
You are absolutely right. The Houthi's seem dead set on provocation. I can only imagine that this reflects a combination of their servile relationship with Tehran and their general desperation after so many years of a failed struggle at home. China has been surprisingly quiet so far - but I suspect that this means they are speaking with the Western powers with naval bases in Djibouti (U.S. and France) through quiet channels and prefer to act quietly, letting the USA draw all the political ire.
Would a third reason be that any disruption in the area will cause shipping insurance to increase or delays and cause disruption across Europe. And thus leading to financial issues across Europe (again), pushing them towards pushing for a cease to hostilities?
So your writers didn’t choose to mention how the US navy shot down an Iran Air aircraft full of civilians heading from Bandar Abbas in Iran to Dubai in 1988?
"There's already talk about the US taking direct action against Houthi bases in Yemen, which would both risk escalation with Iran, and scupper the ongoing Saudi-Houthi peace talks I'VE BEEN USING HENSON'S PRODUCTS FOR A FEW MONTHS NOW"
They are attacking the ships because EU is supporting and providing aid to Israel, and so disrupting the EU's economy would also indirectly harm Israel. I think it's pretty obvious
The largest provider of aid to Palestine is the EU. They have been the largest aid provider since 1993. I doubt the Palestinians who depend on EU aid would be happy if that aid is disrupted.
Bro they dont attack Ships randomly, they attack Israeli ships only. All other ships are not touched to avoid hostility from other countries. Houthis only want Israeli ships or ships bound to Israel
one small correction, ships are usually owned, registered, and operated all over the world so Israeli ownership should not be a make or break for if it is a "valid" target.

Or to some: the "Yemeni Navy". If you take their word: A nation with nothing doing what it can to make the genocide in Gaza costly to Israel and its allies. "If Europe and Egypt want free passage, they should do something about the genocide in Gaza."
Bogging down the Red Sea for goods flowing to the west makes sense from a Houthi perspective. It's an economic attack of sorts on Israel and its allies in Europe to make the war less sustainable, i.e., shipping insurance for Red Sea routes has already sky-rocketed.
The United States must reassure the Houthis, because the Straits of Babel Mandav are important to the world economy and trade. In Media and the Houthis will continue to attack ships, this will severely damage world trade.
Israel gets most of its imports from its ports on the Mediterranean. Egypt is the biggest loser in this conflict since the Suez Canal brings in revenue.
The only problem with that logic is that the largest supporter of Israel is the USA and the USA is mostly insulated from the attacks. The real question is why would the USA waste time interfering? Red sea (Baby Al Mandan) is important for global shipping because: A. Main trade route between east Asia and Europe. They do a lot of trade, 30 percent of it goes thru here B. Most oil - Saudi, Iraq, Iran. Sent to the EU. They pass thru here. Ever since , Russian invade. They rely on this trade more. Qatar even uses it for liquified natural gas, - france, Italy Netherlands signed multiple long year decades to replace Russian foothold. If LNG die, so does EU After Israel invaded Gaza, Houthi then started war in those red sea site, and ruin oil (btw Houthi hate the government and Saudi), after control Sana'A. Their connection with Iran means they're gonna shut on Israel more cause they hate them (i.e firing missiles). Most of the ships being attacked are French, Norwegian and Chinese ships though. So that's crazy, but multiple shipping companies are not going thru there anymore, they're going thru Africa. This increases their profits, but this is bad for global economy - Egypt less people going thru Suez Canal. Which means they're losing money. Why are the Houthis doing this?? 1. They're doing this to improve domestic image - Houthis are in shambles, salaries are not given well. They do this they cast them selves as protector of not just Yemen but Arab people. Yemeni gov reluctant - people don't like 2. Want to increase escalation. Forcing western navies to get involved, Iran proxies despite being quiet (I.e. not knowing about October 7th attacks). Or maybe they're doing this because now it's the best time to strike What happens next? US is trying to escort ships now! Even if Houthis don't attack US navythat are escorting them, if the US cannot convince commercial tankers to continue, it may hurt their economy.
Houthis (according to TLDR) -> first ballistic missile ship attack ever; capture ships via air assault; close trading sea lanes also Houthis according to TLDR -> " I don't know, maybe they are just stupid lol "

I can't begin to explain how stupid of a statement this is. Ah yes, money is the driving factor behind this because Iran is known for being the richest country in the world.
Of the two attacked ships, one was later found out to have connections to an Israeli businessman and the other was scheduled to make a stop in an Israeli port. So far it seems like the Huthis have been largely true to their word, and not targeted ships from neutral countries without reason, although it remains to be seen how this will play out in the long run.
The drought at Panama canal is already affecting global shipping. The iran Shiite backed houthi are fighting internally with Sunni groups. Iran fking with Saudi Arabia oil shipping is not surprising besides Israel attacking gaza
Why arent Qatar, Egypt and Saudi Arabia participating in this coalition? Their economies depend heavily on unimpeded Red Sea trade, they definitely have the firepower and they are US allies.
They are Muslims, nothing is above that. Also they are not by any means allies of the US, they just do some stuff in order to get military tech and sell oil, there is huge difference between the two
SAUDI ARABIA has fought the Houthis for more than 5 years they're now engaged in peace talks with them and Iran since they realised the US won't help. Why on earth would they reignite that feud and make themselves sitting ducks for missiles. QATARS entire foreign policy rests on being the diplomatic party they'd lose ALL credibility by joining a military coalition against the Houthis actions which haven't killed anyone but yet not joining or forming one to ensure restraint by Israel who's killed tens of thousands. EGYPT however is a different story outside of applying pressure on Israel and undermining US global naval security guarantees... it is Egypt which is the target of the Houthis. Egypt relies on the suez canal for income any impediment to that is catastrophic for its already fragile economy. They're being put between a rock and a hard place for their muted position on the atrocities in Gaza. They cannot afford to be vocal about Israelis actions let alone be bellicose because of their vulnerability to US economic pressure so now the Houthis have ingeniously learnt from the US and found a way to financially hurt Egypt. Remember the Egyptian public is in full support of Palestine but the military dictator is fully aware what percentage of their military budget comes from the US. What the Houthis have done is ensure that Sisi cannot be idle he'll want business back to usual but staying in power is more important. Deciding to join a military coalition against the Houthis when he won't even cut diplomatic ties with Israel is non starter. That would be to much for the 100 million Egyptians watching what's happening in Gaza to accept.
Personally, I am assuming that this is actually just incompetence. The Houthis have been ridiculously incompetent in every facet of their ''government'', I see no reason to assume that they're not stupid enough to think that they're really attacking Israelis ships.
nah where you got info from? they attack ships that are linked to Israel somehow or go to their ports, they don’t randomly shoot any ship. (mistakes of course happen) For example Russian ships get save passage
Houthis connection to Iran came after the Saudi and UAE invasion of Yemen in support of an ousted leader who had fled. While both Iran and Houthis are Shia they aren't the same denomination and the attacks seem one way to pressure the Saudis who still insist on propping up a leader who wasn't elected by Yemenis and who controls very little of the country. US has already attacked the Houthis and directly supported Saudi and UAE invasions.

@SirHalifax Well, the Russians certainly won't be boasting about it either way. It would only hurt Sino-Russian relations if their involvement were to become public. The Russians will take care of themselves before they take care of the Chinese. As long as they continue to buy their oil and gas I don't think they care much about how this might affect them.
Red sea (Baby Al Mandan) is important for global shipping because:
A. Main trade route between east Asia and Europe. They do a lot of trade, 30 percent of it goes thru here
B. If LNG die, so does EU
After Israel invaded Gaza, Houthi then started war in those red sea site, and ruin oil (btw Houthi hate the government and Saudi), after control Sana'A.
Yemeni gov reluctant - people don't like
2. Want to increase escalation. Forcing western navies to get involved, Iran proxies despite being quiet (I.e. not knowing about October 7th attacks). Or maybe they're doing this because now it's the best time to strike

They are Muslims, nothing is above that. Also they are not by any means allies of the US, they just do some stuff in order to get military tech and sell oil, there is huge difference between the two
"Their economies depend heavily on unimpeded Red Sea trade" no it doesn't. But Europe's will especially after the war in Ukraine.
