This 2023 keeps getting better and better, every time I drive it!

  • @bryanstopperich3720

I followed pages 188 and 189 of the 2023 owner's manual that covers the break-in period you spoke of:
    Starting and Operating
    New Vehicle Break-In
    Follow these recommended guidelines
during the first 2 414 km (1,500 mi) of driving
this vehicle. Parts have a break-in period and
performance will be better in the long run.
During the first 800 km (500 mi), engine
torque will be limited in low gears.
To remove the engine torque limitation after
the initial 500-mile break-in period, turn the
vehicle off, and open and close the driver
door. Ensure all doors are closed for 15
    minutes.
For the first 322 km (200 mi):
. To break in new tires, drive at moderate
    speeds and avoid hard cornering.
. New brake linings also need a break-in
period. Avoid making hard stops. This is
    recommended every time brake linings
    are replaced.
For the first 800 km (500 mi):
. Avoid full throttle starts and abrupt stops.
. Do not exceed 4000 rpm.
. Avoid driving at any one constant speed,
fast or slow, including the use of cruise
    control.
. Avoid downshifting to brake or slow the
vehicle when the engine speed will
    exceed 4000 rpm.
. Do not let the engine labor. Never lug the
engine. This rule applies at all times, not
    just during the break-in period.
For the first 2 414 km (1,500 mi):
. Do not participate in track events, sport
    driving schools, or similar activities.
. Check engine oil with every refueling and
add if necessary. Oil and fuel
consumption may be higher than normal.

I don't understand why my comment was deleted about being surprised that you hadn't seen Tadge Juechter's statement about proper break-in (June 9, 2020) “Any machinery that has moving parts, whether they have point contact, a rotational interface or slide against each other will “bed-in” over time. What that means is, no matter the manufacturing process, two interfacing parts will find their own equilibrium. You can think of it as mutually refining each other’s surface texture until they reach a steady state. This steady state condition generally minimizes noise, vibration and wear. Although manufacturing has improved to a point where break in effects are minimized, they are still at play despite claims to the contrary. And the truth is, there may be additional minor benefits to a longer break in period. If it was my car, I would try to be patient for 1,000 miles.”
Also it's written in the Owner's Manual
"For the first 2 414 km (1,500 mi):
. Do not participate in track events, sport
driving schools, or similar activities." Not only is "launching" similar activities, it's harsher on the drivetrain, especially the gears in the transaxle, than the track events or driving schools.

I have not exceeded 500mils on my 2024 C8 Stingray yet. However, before watching such videos, I did not know the proper way to break in a C8, so I did multiple high rpm revs to test and enjoy the engine sound. Most of the revving was done with the car stopping. I did not do any car lunches or speeding, just revving the engine. Did I hurt the engine and/or transmission already?? I am concerned 😔

I’d do oil change and DCT filter at 500 then oil change at 1200-1500 miles then you can call it fully broken in and full throttle.

  • @SK-pn1pe
    @SK-pn1pe 23 дня назад

Honestly....if the first 500 miles are that critical for the engine/transmission....GM should just be running each one up to 500 in the factory and completing this entire process before they are sold.....send them out broken in with 0 miles on the odometer. Who the hell wants to get a C8 and nurse the throttle for 500 miles.

The color of the RPM indicator did shift at exactly 500 miles. The odometer on the C8 rounds up at .5. Therefore, at 499.5 miles the odometer rounded up to 500. Had do you never reset your trip odometer from the factory, which includes a decimal, you would have seen that the RPM indicator actually shifted at exactly 500 miles on the dot. This rounding effect has confused practically all C8 owners, and they think that it actually has to go 500.5 or 501 miles. They do not understand what is happening in the background. I will fully demonstrate all of this when I get my C8 in early January by not resetting the odometer until after the first 500 miles. My build date is next week: 12/14/22. 😎

I think that GM did modify or did something to the transmission later on, and on mine, which is a 2022, got it early this year, the car drives very well.
Just had the first free oil change, free transmission oil change, and software uodate last week. The car runs better than ever now. Don't know what they did, but it sure makes the car drive very smooth. So if you have not done it, then please, by all means, bring yours in.

I’m a 66-year-old car collector. I NEVER bought a Corvette. Hated them. But this car? So totally different. My Z51 3LT arrived a month back. I treated her with respect and still do. I kept her calm till I hit 500. Now it’s Z MODE BABY! Engine sound and shift maxed. This car is a BEAST! And the auto downshift sound is crazy! GM knocked it out of the park! I have to stop every 10 miles or so. I unfold my 6’3” nicked up body out so my ass can laugh!

I love your videos but you missed the mark on this one, The proper break in period is 1500 miles. Don't attempt any aggressive driving such as launch control starts before this. Ron Fellows won't even let one of his C8's on the track before the 1500 miles are done. Don' do it unless you want to screw up you transmission.

    • @BrinkofSpeed
      @BrinkofSpeed  Год назад +3

This isn’t a fact, it is an opinion of some. The owners manual says nothing about launching the car between 500-1500 miles. The 1,500 miles is for track use and some recommend not to launch until then.

Mike you are one funny guy and I love all the videos you put out. I look forward to a new video every day and if there is not one, I am sad. I did the first 500 in the first weekend of ownership. Had some great drives through the hills of NE Oklahoma and NW Arkansas. Got it just in time to head to the Eurika Springs annual Corvette show. I waited for 1500 miles before I did launches. I have gotten a 3.1 0 to 60. But that was not revved up to the 3500rpm. Could not figure it out. Only could get the revs to 1500rpm. Just got back from Ron Fellows and am ready for so very spirited driving on the road. Thanks for all you do. I fully understand the dedication and time you spend to put out such wonderful work.

yo mike. I think you didn't mention 1 HUGE thing on the break-in. While I don't think its mention anywhere in the c8 literature it's probably important for the first 500 miles to drive the c8 in MANUAL mode so the AFM does not get activated. I'm sure YOU did it that way because I remember you (i think) blaming the AFM for messing up your c7? Correct me if I'm wrong.
When I picked up my c8 like MOST new owners I was unaware of the ins and outs of the vehicle. I was so nervous driving from MD to PA (about 205 miles) , a $100k vehicle I didn't know much about the tranny etc. Unfortunately I never did hardly any driving in manual mode at first. I have 6k on my 2022 HTC now and drive in both D and M. But that might be a valuable point to make sometime in a new video. Take care buddy and don't hit any cement blocks with this one...
