Something I'm curious about: I've heard that attitudes in China, especially outside of the cities and among the older generations, can be pretty conservative and that families might not accept their children being gay. But I've also heard that there is very little hate crime against gay people, unlike other parts of the world where a lot of the homophobic attitudes are rooted in religion. Is this true? Or if it is, is it only true in certain cities?

    • @cpc9563

I am not gay, but I am Chinese.
I can assure you that gay people will absolutely not have to worry about violence just because they're gay.
Violence, in general, is abhorred in Confucian culture.
I'd go so far as to say there wouldn't be any out-and-out discrimination (as in not being allowed into a restaurant), but like I said, I'm not gay, so I don't want to speak on gay people's behalf. It's just that I've never seen anything like that.
      But definitely no violence.

I think the whole pride month is a very bad thing for society. Don't get me wrong. It's okay that everybody should have the freedom to live as he or she wants to. But as a society, the ideals have to be kept up. Otherwise the society will ruin itself. And that's what I loved in China, where I lived 10 years ago. At that time, I went accidentally in a pub in Shanghai, in which a gay porn was running at the TVs. It was not a big deal, we left the pub again after one beer. And I thought that this level of tolerance is exactly the right one. But: the "promotion" of any thing other than the ideal of husband and wife is bad. We realize this now in Germany. And I'm afraid, that China will take a bad course - the more they would follow the Western examples, the worse it will get.

The Romans, the Greek, the US, whole Europe, Germany... the moral decline (I'm talking about a society, not about indiviuals!) comes before its fall. And that's the reason why China was able to rise that fast out of the ashes so to say. Prove me history-wise that I'm wrong.

I think as a society we have to care for each other, regardless of those aspects you are bringing forth. You are denying the possibility and actual existence of many happy families with two dads or moms or any other constellation. It does not matter for their children if their parents are straight, gay or something else as long as they are with those significant others they wish for and care for each other. But as you can see from the video (did you actually watch it?) and other examples, it does matter if society establishes unreasonable beliefs about which person should marry whom and consecutively resulting into unhappy families, gay men pushed to marry a woman and vice versa and such life tragedies. Because even if you do not care about gay people and such, does it not make sense to promote a healthy ground for the development of a society to which everyone can thrive upon regardless of their sex or gender and contribute to society and ideals, as you described you are longing for? Who did hurt you brother? Hab trotzdem einen schönen Tag.
