@chuckharrel8272 you would not believe how many people have never heard his name or Uriah Heep. I listen to a few Heep songs when I was 5. I did not listen to more albums by Heep until I was 35. After being inspired to learn to play bass by my friend Laurie McAllister (last bass player in Runaways and with Orchids), I noticed his bass playing right away. Personal experiences can influence how we perceive things a lot.
Legendary line up David Byron, Mick Box, Ken Hensley, Gary Thain, Lee Kerslake really deserves to be called legendary. They were simply fantastic and they still are!
@Steve Zubal indeed. I just came to know about Smoulik Avigal (ex Picture, Horizon, The Rods etc) also passed away on last June. A very good singer from the old days!
This is so freakin' awesome.. No spotlights , no lasers , no fog , no pyrotechnics..just the epic majesty of the mighty Uriah Heep blowing the audience away as usual . Great rare video with above average photography...pretty impressive for ' 72 . Gary Thain was one of the best bass guitarists ever ! Thanx Heeps for this experience !! Rage on Heepsters !!!!!!
Also, I must agree with you Curt !!!! I remember, that in one winter day of the year of 1973 ... I could hear Uriah Heep for my first time, just when I was finishing eating my breakfast, before I go to my Technical High School in Warsaw, Poland ... it was the song "July Morning", and because of that 11 minutes and 35 seconds of its length, I missed my planned city bus and I was late to the school with consequences about being not on time. I couldn't stop listening ... it was a broadcast on a poor quality AM waves of the Polish National Radio channel 1 ..... but such a music was OUTSTANDING, and pumping up my young mind instantly to the unbelievable level.
Thank you for sharing this with us, dear channel owner. These guys are what I call the "magic five" Uriah Heep lineup .... to this day I miss Byron and Thain very much.
Every rock bass player who has ever mentioned jazz bassist Scott LaFaro (Bill EvansTrio) as an influence has been phenomenal. Thain, Jack Bruce, John Paul Jones are the first three that come to mind.
As much as Ken, Lee, David will be missed....Very few ever knew Gary had a very hard ..very bad drug problem. The band fired him. And, not to long after, Gary od'd. I was 13 back then...and I knew from there on . UH was going to slip. Soon after David was fired. UH was never the same. Sad, but I guess that was the business of rock n roll. Sad, but Mick is the last surviving Member of the greatest line up ever. Long Live Rock. Thank you for the tunes you left us.
I remember being near the front of the stage mid-70s. Mick Box spent a lot of time straddle-sitting on the front wedge right by me and looked down at one point and screamed, "Isn't this great!" and I had to agree.

I stood on stage with Uriah Heep as a fifth grader at the end of the show they were in a circle and discussing what song to close with it was my oldest brother's birthday he was in the front row I asked them to play Happy birthday and they did!
Kerslake ... RIP - one of my favorite drummers. A great band. But this combination of performance/interview was so very Spinal Tap - love it! Just missed the pods and, maybe, the tiny Stonehenge.
What memories!!!! After Uriah Heep, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Captain Beyond,(OK let's add Deep Purple)....I just can't get into most or any Heavy Metal or Hard Rock Bands that came out afterwards....I was done with it after it became so commercial, unimaginative and repetitive. Maybe it's just moving on to newer sounds as I matured but I sttill have a big soft spot for the Heep
These guys had the worst management! I saw them on a HS soccer field in a podunk town (Oildale) south of Bakersfield with Dave Mason for .75 cents. Just a classic lineup and the main reason I started actually practicing: Ken Hensley was the bomb, all over the place playing keys and slide guitar, little teeny guy, all hair and high heeled shoes. Mick Box was a monster on guitar, peeling riffs up and down the neck like water....and just a driving beat with Kerslake and Thain. Easily the best vocals of the time.
I'm with wiggindesign on this one. After about '73 nothing much new really happened. I was lucky that I was a kid around the late 60's early 70's and experienced the excitement every time a new LP came out from these colossal bands. Heep was one of them. But then again maybe i'm just a nostalgic dinosaur. BTW the sound mix in this video highlights what a great player Thain was. The band never really recoverd from his ( and Byron's) loss.
If you Heep fans get a chance to hear the latest from Uriah Heep you won't be disappointed. It;s called " Wake The Sleeper". It's the best since "Sweet Freedom".
I was playing and singing live on stages, that particular song "July Morning", together with my rock band in Poland in 1978 ... when I was just after finishing my technical High School in Warsaw. My cousin Krzysztof, who also loved this British band, and played keyboards with us, had his nick name "Uriah" !!!!
Im great Heep fan.If you notice the trinity of hard rock had 2 virtuoso in their bands, but Heep in their classic line had only one..Gary Thain.Hensley was to busy composing song for them.He should have asked Mick to be more aggressive buck up on his guitar solos or fired him to get replace a virtuoso guitarist....if they did this...Uriah Heep would have been the big three.
Live , le groupe frappait fort. Sauvagement , avec un sound terrible. Heureusement que l'on puisse voir les vidéos aujourd'hui , pour comprendre le souffle ahurissant qu'ils envoyaient.
Gary Thain ruled this song, July Morning, with his bass playing !
"Circle of Hands" is a standout also for Gary, especially Live!
Gary Thain is one of the most under rated bass players of the 70's!
Stoopid comment.......nobody EVER underrated Gary.
No fucking way was he ever underrated!!!!
John Wetton could hold his own. He was no slouch on the bass.
@chuckharrel8272 you would not believe how many people have never heard his name or Uriah Heep. I listen to a few Heep songs when I was 5. I did not listen to more albums by Heep until I was 35. Gary Thain, greatest bass player.
By a million miles. My God, I love his baselines so much.
Agreed
💯👍
I prefer to think of Gary as the God of Bass. Without him, I would have never picked up the instrument.
O melhor bixista q ouvi tocar
Legendary line up David Byron, Mick Box, Ken Hensley, Gary Thain, Lee Kerslake really deserves to be called legendary. They were simply fantastic and they still are!
The bass playing is genius.
Dave Byron was iconic. One of the most under rated metal bands.
I would rather to say ..... Hard Rock bands !!!!
@@dasboot5903 yes and in the beginning close up to prog and jazzrock..

Deep purple
Still can’t believe they’re all gone except for Mick Box.
Box didn't smoke and never stopped working.
GREAT DAVID BYRON, GREAT URIAH HEEP, FIVE HEAD MONSTER.
R.I.P. Lee Kerslake! Great drummer! Fine human!
Thank you for sharing this with us, dear channel owner. These guys are what I call the "magic five" Uriah Heep lineup .... to this day I miss Byron and Thain very much.

yes. it is
I agree..100%
Every rock bass player who has ever mentioned jazz bassist Scott LaFaro (Bill EvansTrio) as an influence has been phenomenal. Thain, Jack Bruce, John Paul Jones are the first three that come to mind.
Remember when Ken Hensley played with Blackfoot? That was pretty good stuff
@WJB Motown Lately in 2020. May God bless his drummer's soul !!!!
ken hensley 24/08/45-04/11/20 rest in peace from shaz in the uk.
Gary who promoted the cause of Bass players. Go Gary and RIP!
Gary Thain .... he was MAESTRO of hard rock guitar playing !!!! New Zealand should be proud because of him !!!!
Ёлки - палки! Мне было 13 лет! И мы тащились от ИХ музыки на магнитофонах!

July morning. I had forgotten how good this song is. A masterpiece.
Best heep lineup ever
I have never got to see them, but they are still my favourites.
Absolutely fantastic
Hear Gary 's BASS ~ Miss that man.
Can you imagine being in that theater being so close to the group? It would be a memory forever.
Uriah Heep & Gary Thain.. The best! Tanxx
"Июльское утро" Юрай Хип, как и "Дитя во времени" Дип Перпл были Революцией в истории Рок-музыки!
Вряд ли. Ты удивишься, но это далеко не так...
Watching this with tears in my eyes. Such a great Band. RIP Byron. Thain and Kerslake. Uriah forerwer
Together with Deep Purple - best band ever
This is a Rock 'N Roll classic by anyone's measure. Saw them a couple of times in the early '70s. Still one of my favorites.
Lucky you.. I saw them only in 2002, 2010, 2015, 2018
Gary!!!
Great band. This was the best lineup period
QUE VOZ, QUE BANDA, QUE SOM. QUE FORMAÇÃO DO CACETE DESSA BANDA. UM ELENCO DE ASTROS COMO POUCOS TIVERAM. OS CARAS ERAM UM UNÍSSONO.
Please pray for Lee; he's very sick and one of rock's most underrated drummers. Listen to the fills in the intro for Over the Mountain; amazing.
RIP Lee

R.I.P. Lee and Ken. Two greats recently gone.
the best lineup...thanky mucho
Band was never the same with passing of Gary Thain on bass, David Byron vocals
correct ,
David Byron was an alcoholic. He never knew what country or state he was in. That's why he died so young. He loved alcohol more than he loved life.
Gary Thain the best
No doubt !!!! :o))
His live after the electric shock on the stage in USA, become definitely too short :o((
Это точно!
Yeah that was some good times then we rocked the livin heck out of uriah heep
July Morning never cease to impress you
Incredible.....Love It. TY for sharing...….Peace & Love
It was indeed legendary.
How on earth is this band not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?! That is a great injustice.
R.R.H.O.F. is overrated anyway..it's more about a commercial viewpoint than musical artistry.
I was a huge Uriah Help fan. But only during the Thain years.
Mick Box rules, he is Heep.
