Of the Heep five on stage in this show, only Mick Box survives. It's incredibly sad to think about when you consider the amazing talent that was in THIS Heep line-up. Thain, (IMHO) one of the best bassists EVER, never made it past the mid-1970's. Byron, great voice and inimitable stage presence, died 10 years later, in '85. And we lost Kerslake and Hensley last year (one of the most fucked-up years of all time). We still have their music, for which I am eternally grateful. Man, these guys could ROCK!
I cannot explain how excited I am to find this band, being 30 just wish I was around back when they were running hard. Tears In My Eyes is the best song ever. Byron is awesome.
Had all their records when i was a kid and all my kids learned to dance to the Magicians Birthday.I always thought that Mick box was one of the greatest guitarists and Lee Keerslake was one of the greatest drummers. Godspeed to their angels and I'll 💘 them forever
Man! Ken Hensley was such a wicked slide guitarist and to be able to play that well together with a great guitarist like Mick Box and they were never walking over each other. Brilliant!
First off. Gary Thain was a bass monster killer. Second Dave Byron carried the vocal as great as any rock singer could. Third. Ken Hensley playing slide out of that wall of growling Marshall amps. This is one of the greatest rock songs ever. I still listen to it almost daily.
I can't get over the lyrics to this song. They are so effing good. Full of pain that all men have when they lose the woman they love. Effing incredible. But the music is totally bad ass aggressive rock n roll.
Mick Box's guitar had such a distinctive sound! His playing always stood out because of that sound. David Byron had the voice that stood out because of what he could do with it. Talented. This was Uriah Heep's BEST lineup ever. When Gary Thain died, it hit me hard. When David Byron was fired, that was the end of Uriah Heep, as far as I was concerned. He was like Ozzy, he had the voice for the type of music Uriah Heep played. RIP-DAVID AND GARY. In
Mick Box the Lead Guitar 🎸 , was instrumental in my first 1963-64 Gibson Melody Maker .Couldn’t really play so intense but boy had so much joy trying to pull it off . I’m thankful for them then it was 1973 and I always wanted to get there but a ticket for the show .
I was 15 years of age when found out Uriah Heep Look Into My Eyes Album, had a 12 string acoustic and played along with Tears In My Eyes.Live album i thiknk. But man they are still one really rarer event for a 15 yr kid with long hair and Beatle boots....
I’m a die hard fan of early proto-metal, psych rock, prog rock, and all that stuff but yet have somehow never heard this band until now. This is next level
Armageddon (with the late Kieth Relf) might be another band that flew under your radar. Only 1 album release that I know of. Early Alice Cooper, King Crimson, Wishbone Ash, etc. If You missed Uriah Heep, perhaps you missed Yes also. The late 60s. San Fran/LA psychedelic scene is pretty incredible too. Quicksilver Messenger Service, Love, Spirit, etc. Bloodrock from Texas.....Vanilla Fugde (give their 20 plus minute long "The.Break Song" a listen).....Frijid Pink.....Dust....Fever Tree...... The Litter (check out "Feeling" from the Emerge album). Don't forget "Nuclear Apathy" and "Safety in Numbers" from Crack the Sky from the Stuebenville, Ohio area. Also Glass Harp featuring incredible musicians like Phil Keaggy (sp?). The live side of Mountain's "Flowers of Evil" is a great jam. And if you're not already familiar with them, please listen to The Pretty Things albums S.F. Sorrow and Parachute.
With Tears In My Eyes I'm No Longer Pretending You're Mine....Man, Sabbath, Purple, Zeppelin, none could touch what Heep had back then and this is just mind blowing!
HEEEEEEEP!!!! TIMELESS, GENIUS Listened to them on vinyl in eighties as a teenager. My 28 year old son is playing drums to them right now! It's justa rock and rollllyeah!
Looks like they were all having a good time in the video. I saw them shortly after the Uriah Heep Live album was released and watched the gig at Alexandra Palace in North London (supported by the Heavy Metal Kids from memory who were also great) and they were fab. A few of the band have gone now (Lee Kerslake recently) along with Gary Holton of the Heavy Metal Kids years ago. The UH live album still sounds fantastic, even today nearly 50 years later and the sound quality was great as well.
luv this band, have done since i was 13 am now 53, along with led zep, deep purple, they are all i need to satify my music needs, see you at the royal albert hall. xx luv to all xx
They were just a great band... In my opinion, one of the best around in the early 70s. You never hear Mick Box mentioned in the same breath as Eric Clapton, and I'm not sure to whom it's the greater compliment... :)
luv Uriah Heep, have done since i was 13, am now 53, along with led zep, bowie, deep purple, etc, see you all on friday 8 july at the royal albert hall for deep purple, luv to all xxxx
Slide playing is usually the one area that Americans have an edge: Duane Allman, Billy Gibbons, Joe Walsh. Who comes closest to that on the British scene? Well--surprisingly, that Uriah Heep organist/songwriter, Ken Hensley moonlighting as a blues player, and also I would say Nazareth's Manny Charlton is pretty good on the slide
+brian wills I met Ken at the Omni-New Daisy Theater in Memphis on Beale Street in '86...he was playing with a bunch of guys, none of whom I recognized. He was a nice fellow.
+lessevdoolbretsim Thank you very much for that great info .! I can imagine that Ken would have taut muscles , He was so intense in His playing and very talented too , playing both keyboards and Guitar . Look at pictures of Mick Box , He has good muscles too . I also play Guitar and Keyboards , I taught myself to read Music and I have a beautiful old pedal action Organ that I play every day as well as a nice Ibanez acoustic . I have subscribed to you , check out my site for videos of my playing . I am also on face book . You are welcome to contact me any time .
+lessevdoolbretsim Cool , I am listening to Bird of Prey by Uriah Heep at the moment . From the brilliant " Salisbury " album , of which the title track is worth a listen .
Watch Byron playfully kick Gary's arse when he gets in front of his mike. They were both extremely talented and sorely missed ,especially since poeple expect me to like groups like nickleback, etc. today when i would prefer the HEEP!
Such a great band ,so underated, still going and sounding great, I saw them a few times with this lineup back in the 70's and I have seen many bands since but the Heep shows are still some of the best iv'e ever seen. Ozzy had Lee Kerslake on drume for his first solo album
This song is one of the most bad ass aggressive ballsy masculine songs I have ever heard. Listen to Ken Hensley play out of those Marshall amps that absolutely roar and growl. Totally great stuff. Gary Thain on bass. Incredible. Dave Byron singing those awesome lyrics. Geez. Rock n roll , gentlemen. Read the lyrics when you can. Talk about a hurtful male love song. Geez. Masculine as heck. But painful. Props to Dave Byron "so I have to forget you but I'm not sure if I can." Name me better lyric than that.
Gary Thain on bass... pure gold!
The best
RIP Ken Hensley. No song could put it better now. Tears for all Heep fans

Celebrate all that is Uriah heep, awesome band, everyone dies.
Goodbye Ken....Thank you for everything you gave us.He has joined U.H. of the Heavens
What I like about this is Mick Box is playing a straightforward arpeggio while Gary Thain plays an amazing bass solo. A great and underrated bass man.
RIP ... DAVE BYRON & GARY THAIN... MISS YOU....4 EVER
Gary Thain was amazing!!
The best
Rest in Peace, Rock in Peace Lee Kerslake😥
Komponist Ken , Sänger David, Bassist Gary , Gittarist Mick , Percussionist Kerslake hier passte einfach Alles!!!!
Wie recht Du doch hast
Wow...always loved this band...particularly with this line up...and Gary Thain was such a fantastic bassist.
He puts Roger Glover to shame...
One of the best EVER... Sad the way he died...and so young...
@@peteredward2547 Hey, Roger is still pretty good.
I get tears in my eyes listening to this beautiful song. They don't make music like that anymore...
Man! Ken Hensley was such a wicked slide guitarist and to be able to play that well together with a great guitarist like Mick Box and they were never walking over each other. Brilliant!

uriha heep is the best!!!

Ken Hensley is a super genius self taught musician, Thain is top 3 bass player ever, just for a start.

Uriah Heep was the definitive sound of heavy metal, especially the Look at yourself album
Mick Box used Acoustic Sold State amps live. Don't know what he used in the studio.
@@richardzmiejko3285solid state. But yes u r correct
Most underappreciated band there ever was or is. Uriah Heep was SPECTACULAR !!!
I have them right there next to Zeppelin.
Criminal, it is.
Some really bad ass Rock n rollers they were. No doubt.

MICK BOX IS THE MOST UNDERRATED GUITAR PLAYER OF THE 70S
@mushroomking11 This is an Excellent comparison!
man, Hensley great slide- great guitar, keyboards
Tiger Mane Ken Hensley is a brilliant guitarist. Some of his solos (“Paradise”/“The Spell”) are on par with Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour.
Gary superman impareggiabile unico❤❤❤❤❤

Great band no doubt about it.... miss David Byron....
Почему нельзя поставить 1000 лайков? 😊
such a great band Gary Thain...Lee Kerslake..!
best time ever ;-)
They were just a great band... In my opinion, one of the best around in the early 70s. You never hear Mick Box mentioned in the same breath as Eric Clapton, and I'm not sure to whom it's the greater compliment... :)
Eric Claptrap .
Mick is the super guitarist! The best for me not only because of technical reasons, but because of his sense of uh's style and music!
Just wish Mick, Ken, Gary, David and Lee could of lasted together for another 25 years, what a wonderful sound they would of made.
one of my favourite groups.

very good band
The Look at Yourself album is the one that had defined Uriah Heep's unique musical style apart from other groups in the seventies.
this song is great, I have the Uriah Heep live album bronce records, jan 1973... is a classic album... and I have since 1979-80.
Great Video, thanks for uploading!
