thanks a lot for teaching us the correct voicings and chords. rather that letting other RUclipsrs to do the job with inaccurate information . More musician should do the same, not only It is educative but also strengthens the bond with some of your musician fans like me.
I saw you perform this song at The London Studios, my wife used to work there and she got me in to see the band rehearse. Don't remember the TV show you were due to be on. I'm pretty sure the song hadn't even been released yet at the time I saw you play it. Was blown away, still remains one of my favorites to this day. Always remember thinking "why is a funk guitarist warming up by playing chromatic scales" Odd the stuff that stays with you.
Thank you so much, Rob! Incredible lesson, as always. We are blessed to have such lessons from someone who is a master at his craft. I became such a better musician by watching them, and listening to your advices in your podcast. This channel is a gem (so glad I found it two years ago) Cheers from France!
Wonderful how the high pitched small chords and single notes fill the right frequencies in a very full arrangement. Also the rhythm process should be thought of as how a drummer would work snare/high hat. Thanks for the patience and detailed breakdown allowing everyone to grasp the process and mechanics of this sweet tune. Thank you again, ROB
I'm in love for your guitar in every jamiro song! Little L is absolutely at first position! If I love Jamiroquai is also thanks to you! Looking forward to hear what's next
It feels like a privilege to have these great songs taught by the artist who created them! I really love how a song can be so simple and complex at the same time. I love the chorus where you just play a C... and Rob Harris can still make it sound great!
Not a song I was very familiar with, but having just watched the original video, I have to say that the bassline is the star of the show. So cool that *you* created it, and wrote it on guitar. Awesome.
Hey Rob, i listened to you talking to Cory Wong on his podcast( recorded a while back, episode 5 i think), and that conversation is full of great topics to discuss here as well, such as recording sessions psychology, working with different artists/producers etc.Thank you for all you do,Rob.
Good lord, I'm stunned each time you're talking about the recording setup! I just spent the last 25 years thinking there were crazy compressors, effects chains, amps... but no. It's a Line6 Pod for "Little L" and here we have a straight DI through a crappy interface! Sometimes simple things are just what works best!
Something that I've always been curious about, and that you touch briefly in the beginning, is how the writing sessions are within Jamiroquai. We've seen small clips here and there (there's a great rehearsal video before the Automaton tour that is fantastic!) but I've always wanted to know how Jay chooses the sound he's looking for because the genres of Jamiroquai's music is so rich and vast. Does he mention a certain style of music, a specific song? And then how that factors into your specific playing style. Sorry, english isn't my native language, but the process of making *stuff* (music, movies) is always fascinating to me. Thank you Rob.
Incluso ni en mis mejores sueños me habría podido imaginar que el propio Rob Harris me hubiera enseñado a tocar los temas de Jamiroquai tal y como él los concibió, Thank You very very much, Rob!!!❤
Thank you very much Rob for giving us this tutorial. Do you have any video where you talk about your most iconic guitars and why? Greetings from Venezuela
Wow, thank you so much! This kind of videos are really precious, please keep them coming if you can. I would suggest "Something About You".Love your content, learning from you is priceless
One of my favourite songs by Jamiroquai - thank you for sharing this glimse into its creation and ofc the song ! Also something I've always wanted to ask you is how do you as a guitar player use funk to emote sadness - have u been able to mix funk groove and heavy melancholy , or can it not be done ? My experience is that it tends to make the song more peppy and therefore loses that vibe - is there a way around ? Lots of love Harsha
Rob Harris posts a new video and I come running. Great video! Would love to have a short snippet where you play the tune with playback though to get a feel for it :)
Hey. I’m glad you like the video thank you. As I mentioned in the video, I didn’t do a play along track as these days you can get a copyright strike or at least have your video demonetised. It’s a pain in the backside but that’s how RUclips works these days.

Super interesting breaking down the guitar parts of a song and an insight into the Jamiroquai writing process.
Id like to have how to play and story behind of any Automaton LP song, Carla? Cloud 9, any. Cheers mister Harris!
