@@AA-oc3kx Well to be fair, he originally wanted to do a 2 part remake. First movie about Young Michael and second about Adult but the studio declined as they wanted it to be similar. The studio tied him down to basically doing a copy and paste and I'm surprised he managed to get the first half of the movie how it is with the restrictions
Scout Taylor Compton is one of my favorite new era scream queens, along with Danielle Harris. At the very least, Zombie's got a damn good eye for directing and casting. I never really take these two into consideration when thinking of the franchise as a whole though.
I love Rob Zombie's Halloween 2007. Super underrated. And Tyler Mane as Michael is one of the best performances of the series. He's Michael was Nick Castle's Michael (intimidating stalker) mixed with George P. Wilbur's Michael (cold blood, sadistic and vicious) which is a awesome combo if you ask me.
One more line Zombie's Batman probably would've said to Supes would've been, "You'd better not mention that name again or I'm going to skull f@ck the sh!t out of you!!"
I genuinely believe wholeheartedly that if this movie had been called Halloween: Legacy or something along those lines, and John Carpenter's '78 Halloween was cannon in the Rob Zombie universe, and the kid playing Michael had been called any other name and was just a kid who grew up obsessed with the movie and everything else played out as is, just with different character names, people would love this movie and would call it a near perfect homage. It gets a ton of unjust hate but I genuinely don't mind it. It's definitely in the top half of Halloween movies for me.
What I liked 1. The tone & vibe. He does not get enough credit. For it. His film feel more like Halloween then any other film in the series, after part 2. Not just that but, his film kills 4-Kills in tone. 2. Shooting in South Pasadena. That's a must. Which probably helps it feels like a Halloween film. 3. The mask. 4. Tyler Mane (for a tall version, though I prefer a Average height, skinny dude) 5. Suspense (Half of the Halloween lack. Including these new films) 6. Brackett 7. Laurie 8. The kills (Simple. Not lame over the top kills, like Kills, H4,) 9. Cast (Everyone is at least solid or amazing) 10. Music
Personally, I love this version for a few reasons, 1 my childhood was pretty traumatic and the og scared me half to death as a child and my parents knew it so theyd start playing it in the middle of the night really loud on the surround sound when I was trying to sleep and as a small child, its terrifying, sounds silly now, but as I learned when I studied psychology, childhood trauma isnt easy to overcome. (There was more to it than just the movie but its not relevant to this comment,) And this movie was the 1st Halloween I saw in theaters to overcome it. It came out right before my Senior year started and I knew it was time, again sounds silly but it is what it is. I also like how, at least in the 1st half, told his own version of the story and made it modern and his own. Now this franchise is one of my favorites, crazy how things can change.
I love Rob Zombie's Halloween. I honestly think it's unfair to compare Zombie's Halloween and Carpenter's Halloween because they're very different stories, but they're both great movies. John Carpenter made a film about an unstoppable force of evil called The Shape stalking and killing babysitters. Rob Zombie made film about flesh and blood psychopath named Michael Myers who returns to his hometown in search of his baby sister. Two completely different stories that exist in two completely different realities. Both films are brilliant in their own right. I also enjoyed RZ's Halloween 2 also because it was original and different. It wasn't the same old shit rehashed. I think those two movies get a lot of undeserved flack because people see it as not THEIR Halloween, but Carpenter's Shape and Zombie's Michael Myers are too different to compare. The world is plenty big enough for both of them.
I think comparing JC's Halloween against anything is unfair but there is just things Zombie does horribly in all his movies. Just in my opinion. I thought in H2 he purposefully set out to ruin the characters John made though.
@@WeWatchedAMovie I can totally agree with that, man. For me the original Halloween and the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre are the standard. You don't get any better than that... I don't really think he set out to ruin them. I do think he was attempting to be artistic and take it a little deeper than it needed to go though. Pretty sure he was also trying to piss off the Weinstein's because were fucking with him quite a bit.
RZ HALLOWEEN is my favorite film, he's also my favorite director. Ive always appreciated the balls it too to reinvent Myers. RZ HALLOWEEN films have the best masksl the orange one and the decayed Shatner mask. I love his grindhouse 70s inspired style of film making. Scout Taylor Compton is my Laurie Strode my favorite final girl. I'm in the minority of Halloween fan saying this is one of the best of the franchise but both of RZ HALLOWEEN films are my got to timeline. Tyler Mane is The Shape everyone else is fighting for second.
I think the part were young Michael is wearing the Michael Myers mask is probably the best scene of the whole movie. Not only is it creepy as hell on a kid , it actually looks like there's different emotions on the mask. Even though it's the same mask through the whole shot. I love Rob Zombie's version. Michael's a beast & the mask is amazing.
Rob also has a good story going, but some of the dialogue in the beginning as well as that other scene in the Smith's Grove Sanitarium that we won't mention, is where he was at his worst, but I did something in my fan cut of this where I removed all the lines that I did not like, such as "Judith I'm going to be late," and we get something scarier. Michael just death stares Ronnie with that clown mask on before Deborah comes in. There's clips of my fan cut on my channel as well as a trailer if you want to check those out.
I just rewatched this the other day and I've decided its a decent movie, but its a TERRIBLE Halloween movie. Does that make sense? The soundtrack, per usual for Rob is on point. I thought Macolm McDowell did a good job with Loomis...in THIS one lol. I do not understand how he lived though and I do not understand IF he lived, why he doesn't have eye damage. A blind Loomis could have been fun. Add some Don't Breathe elements in there. I abhor Laurie Strode in this series It felt forced to give her something more to do, to make her not be the complete good girl. I do agree about the friends being better though. Linda and Annie in the original are cringy and Annie isn't a good friend period. She insults Laurie the whole movie. When I watched the directors cut of this movie and saw the r*pe scene, it was SO jarring to me. Its god-awful! Absolutely no point of it being there and its VIOLENT and gratuitous. Im so back and forth here. When I first saw it I appreciated the backstory, but the more I watch it the more my first statement rings true. Good movie. Bad Halloween movie. That's it. That's my take. I put off seeing this film for years because it's my favourite franchise, i didn't want it ruined. Even though it's not high in my rankings i do love this film though, i see it as an alternative take on things. I love this versions back story, including the foul mouthed step dad, and all we saw Michael do as a kid. Obviously no-one can be better than Donald Pleasence, but i loved Malcolm McDowell's take on Loomis. The second act to me was rushed it was basically the original done in 20 minutes, so i don't like how it was rushed, with much less stalking. I did love having Danielle Harris back as Annie, and of course thought Brad Dourif as always was great, maybe even better than Charles Cyphers. My big criticism is how it dragged on for too long at the end. Infact on re-watches i tend to stop it at the point the original ends when Laurie asks Loomis if that was the boogeyman. (I do similar with Halloween 5, ending it whem Loomis collapses on top of Michael).
The version i have doesn't have the rape scene, i have never seen it. Some shit isn't necessary in a Halloween film, this is a slasher movie, if it was something like Death Wish then fair enough.
I’m 22 and this was the first Halloween movie I saw I was 7 when it came out and I remember loving it but also being scared too idky kids like horror movies bc even before this movie my first horror movie was saw 1 when I was 4 like it’s weird lol

Dude that is great stopping point. Good call.
The version i have doesn't have the rape scene, i have never seen it. Some shit isn't necessary in a Halloween film, this is a slasher movie, if it was something like Death Wish then fair enough.
I will say if i was Ben Tramer i'd date Scout before Jamie, she definitely had a sense of humour more like mine.
I’m 22 and this was the first Halloween movie I saw I was 7 when it came out and I remember loving it but also being scared too idky kids like horror movies bc even before this movie my first horror movie was saw 1 when I was 4 like it’s weird lol
Cuba Pete lol good one kind sir
I agree Brad Dourif is a really good sheriff Bracket.
7:00 I kind of digged it at the time, but it does serve better as a temporary mask to wear until he gets his true mask
