  • In this video I will show you how to replace your old radio with an aftermarket one in your Jeep. This process is very similar to a variety of Jeeps but today I will show you how to do it on a Jeep Cherokee XJ. This process may be similar on other Jeep models such as the Grand Cherokee, Wrangler. I will show you how to do the whole job from start to finish. If you have any other questions that the video doesn't cover make sure to comment below and I would be happy to answer.

    I just found my Out Jeeping sticker!! Still have the XJ - it’s now for our teenagers. Pulls kayaks and dirt bikes. Great video set, has helped us tremendously. Thanks for the years. 👏

    I love how most car manufacturers to remove the trim around the radio is like take remove 17 t25 torx screws hidden behind the dash and then careful remove the trim from the 15 clips. Then there's jeep that like "grab the fucker and rip that sum bitch right off"

    Thanks for the video Austin, I like the way these older Jeeps make it easier to change out the radio than most vehicles. I replaced the speaker wires to the front doors with better wire, because a common fault point is the factory wires are broken at the hinges.

    Austin, I like the factory radio similar to yours, but without the tape player. I bought one on ebay from someone that adds bluetooth inside the unit. So, don't be too quick to throw out your factory unit, it still has value.

      I was using it with cassette aux adapter before and I'll give it to my friend that has a basic radio with no cassette or CD.

      How much do those Bluetooth Factory radios go for?

      @@OutJeeping back when I bought mine, they offered a deal to send in your radio and they would add the bluetooth to it; they may still do it.

      @@MauriceandDonnie I know it's been 2 years since your post but how has that radio with blue tooth performed? I'm getting ready to purchase one from 1 Factory Radio and remove the aftermarket that was is in my 97 TJ when I purchased it last year. I don't need anything fancy and honestly I like the stock looking stereo for the Wrangler. As long as I can get my music via blue tooth I'm a happy camper.

      @@MauriceandDonnie Do you still have the info on who adds bluetooth to the factory radio? I'm interested on this as I like the look of the factory radio. I appreciate it.

    If i can make a suggestion to those reading. I highly recommend checking out crutchfield's website if you havent heard of it. They always have decent prices and almost always include necessary/helpful extras. For my head unit, that included a bracket adapter (made specifically for this dash style, no extra tabs). It was also nice to look at multiple options vs choosing from 6 different ones at your local walmart. Beyond that, great video! Out of all other projects on my baby, doing the radio was about the only one i enjoyed doing and learning on my own.

    Where did you ground the braided wire on 99 wrangler. No spot on back of aftermarket radio

    • @OutJeeping
      @OutJeeping  3 месяца назад

      You can maybe ground it to the new radio bracket/cage. You might need to make yourself a hole.

    Hey Everybody how’s it going?
    Recently I just found out that Metra released a double din dash kit that’ll work in your 1997-2001 Jeep Cherokee XJ’s without having to hack your radio dash bezel. I haven’t tried it yet but here’s the part number. Depending on what stereo size you have, you may or may not need to cut open any duct work. As mentioned, I haven’t tried that yet. But should make the double din stereo installation a lot easier
    Part No/ Metra 95-6554B
    Which can be found on eBay & amazon for just under $65
    That dash kit should work with most double din stereo brands:
    Pioneer
    JVC
    Sony
    Kenwood
    Dual etc
    I might do that double din upgrade later in the year. If I do, I’ll make a video on how I did it

      I've also recently seen this in a fb group, apparently it still does require a little trimming to have it work but still a cool option.

    • @ernie0699
      @ernie0699 4 года назад

      It is a nice option man. Metra should’ve also added the wood grain option on this new bezel kit as to most of XJ owners may have some wood grain in their jeeps (door panels, center console), etc and they’d like it.

    • @OutJeeping

      Because these wires are not exposed to water and moisture.

    Do we need to disconnect the battery? Or can we leave it engaged and the jeep off

    • @OutJeeping
      @OutJeeping  4 года назад +1

      As long as you're not cutting or slicing into the jeep side harness and have a risk of shorting stuff out you could leave it connected with the jeep off.

    I replaced the radio, I have power but no sound, I checked every speaker. Any suggestions?

    • @OutJeeping
      @OutJeeping  3 года назад

      It's a common problem for the wires to break in the door jams for the front speakers. But if you are getting power to all speakers than either something is not hooked up right or something is wrong with the head unit.
