Like other comments.... Ya bend the tabs bud. Don't feel dumb. I did the same my first install. it's what the tools are for. There are ways to modify it to make it a bad day for radio thieves. ;) Nice work around with the wire.
Black electrical tape , wrapped around 5 or 6 times right next to the face plate lip. It doesn't move, ya can still get it out , but it stays really well!
I should check on this channel more! I haven't had any problems with people hearing me unless I go on the freeway. I guess that's mainly because I have a soft top on my jeep that makes wind noise.

Why did you skip the part where you literally connected the speaker?
My headphone did survived it, but when I scale the volume up or down, I hear like 'tick' noise, anyway this is awesome.
Hi, how has the internal microphone for phone called worked for you? I know sometimes callers on the other end may have issues with hearing clearly.
