  • A rare piece of FM radio history, with famed Boston DJ Maxanne Sartori interviewing three members of Queen - Freddie, Roger and Brian - on a snowy night/early morning in New York City, January 1976. This is just a few days before the start of their US tour, promoting the recently released A Night At The Opera.
    I've edited out the songs played on the original broadcast. Those were:
    Liar
    Father To Son
    Now I'm Here
    Bohemian Rhapsody
    I'm In Love With My Car
    '39
    This recording comes directly from the WBCN archives.
    Enjoy!

    They never turned up for an interview drunk or high or started swearing or anything like that, the way lesser bands and artists often do. They were always elequent, polite and well spoken. Just how it should be done.

    Freddie’s parting words, ‘Goodbye and God bless you Keep yourself alive’. Perfect.
    Loved Maxanne and WBCN. There was no other station. WBCN ruled!

    She also did another interview with them about a week later as I recall. Other shows that might feature in the WBCN archives are some from 1973 where Maxanne aired Jac Holtzman's 15ips Sarm reel of Keep Yourself alive i.ibb.co/DQcwG7z/1973-KYA-1-Demo.jpg

      Yep, I've got that one as well. John is there, that time! From Jan 29 1976, not long before their soundcheck for that evening's show. Didn't know about her playing the Sarm reel! Cool. Is there anything different to that version? I'm figuring that one has been released in some form?

    Interesting, Here, Freddie says he never was in "Smile". Says he suggested, he join Brian and Roger as their singer and form a new Band, Queen.

    • @kamenliter
      @kamenliter  3 года назад +4

      Yes, this is true, he was never in Smile, at least not performing under that name. It's a matter of semantics, I suppose, if you could call the unit of Freddie, Roger and Brian working/rehearsing songs together before they had settled on the name Queen as a version of Smile. Especially as there is a 'Queen' version of the Smile song Polar Bear. When they recorded that demo, I'm not sure, but I believe it was after they had already decided on Queen as the name of the new band.
