"I have knitted a sweater while Tiberius took his turn," is still a great line.
Godamn hes the worst. "Can I cast 8 spells in a turn and not keep track of how many spell slots I've used?"
@@Thornspyre81 how many sorcer's points have I used? They get used?
Sad it was unnoticed by the others.
@@matsh5633 Oh I think it was noticed. -_-
@@Thornspyre81 He didn't cast eight spells. He cast two. Fireball as a bonus action (through Quickened Spell, which is not a spell) and Scorching Ray as an action. Matt allows him to cast two spells per turn rather than one spell and a cantrip (that's a homebrew) using Quicken Spell, he's allowed to complicate his turns.
He then uses his Metamagic feature again (this time using Empowered Spell) on BOTH of those spells, to reroll up to 6 damage dice for each of the spells (12 dice rerolls total), which is completely legal because it doesn't take any type of action to do that.
And that's pretty much it. It just took a while cause it was a lot of dice, and a lot of math, and a lot of rerolling due to Empowered Spell.
Honestly, the long turns are more Matt's fault. He should not be allowing sorcerers to cast two spells per turn. It's ridiculously overpowered and isn't even legal in the rules. He just allows it for some reason.
He has 11 sorcery points at this point, and has only used 6 of them. If Tiberius were not allowed to cast two spells, instead of rolling three attack rolls for Scorching Ray, and then re-rolling damage dice for that Scorching Ray, then doing math, he would only be able to cast a single cantrip and wouldn't have wasted empower spell on that because it's not worth it. It would've cut the turn in half roughly.
I love how while Lyra was meant to be the bumbling backroom assistant she did shit tons of damage, while Thorbir, the battle hardened guild member, spends his time getting his axe lodged in things and consistently missing and falling over things.
you can do a shit ton of things to make your character seem badass with backstory and voices but ultimately the dice decide , there both great characters though.
Wil Wheaton wasn't kidding about his shit dice luck...
Maybe Thorbir is only that hardened and gruff 'cause nothing ever works his way, but he makes do nontheless?
That's a perfect reflection of them irl if you've followed them for years. Since The Guild and Star Trek, respectively.
Day is smart and creative and puts on a bumbling act to downplay expectations while simultaneously trying to exert passive control on those around her. She's a passive-aggressive authoritarian type.
Wheaton is close to the opposite. He's inwardly insecure and puts on an assertive mask despite kowtowing frequently to damsels and whatever moral authority he most appreciates. He's a quintessential white knight type. Assertive, but not for his own sake. He thinks that standing up for others gives him permission to act in ways he couldn't get away with if he were acting in self interest.
In this way, they're perfect compliments to each other. They'd probably do well in a group together.
wow that's deep
+Faux Mustache *starts slow clap*
Oh, I get it! Team 1 got a dragon, team 2 gets a dungeon.
This made me audibly giggle 🤣
Ah yes, Dragon & Dungeon, world's best role playing game
I just realized 💀
Fun fact: this is the first and last time Matt used multiple ghosts in an encounter. It showcases how unfun that monster is to fight. It takes away player's agency. I had a person who stright up walked away from the table when he got possesed and told the gm to just play with his character and call him when the fight was over.
@Iliya.V That's why I let my players make Charisma saves to break the possession. I know it takes away from the dedliness of that ability but it's also a bullshit ability that takes away player agency for really no reason. If your party has no cleric your fucked you literally have to drop to 0hp otherwise which is fun for absolutely no one.

Is nobody going to notice that they went from a Indiana Jones boulder trap to a Star Wars garbage room with tentacle creature?
Well played Mercer.
Wow, didn't notice that, nice catch
right? i was like "why is he casting spells, this is clearly Indiana Jones, it will get stuck."
I'm pretty sure someone referenced it (not sure it was in this one or the previous ep.) saying "What an incredible smell you've discovered."
Heck, when they fell into the garbage pit, they even quoted Star Wars. "What an incredible smell you've discovered!"
That boulder trap made me want to bust out the Way of the Iron Fist monk I'm prototyping right now. I would've been like: "Tiberius! Give me your stoneskin!".
Then I would've stopped, turned around, used the "fist of iron might" ability. And... probably died.
I really appreciate Liam. I don't think Marisha has social anxiety, thank goodness, but I do, and when all the other characters are dismissive of my character or just think my character is being annoying, I sadly start worrying that the players are upset with me as a player and aren't just RPing. Liam being there and having Vax humor Keyleth and listen/talk to her as usual makes me feel better about the others dismissing her. It always helps to have one person like that to remind me that everyone is just playing and they aren't upset with me personally. I don't think Marisha has this problem, but it's nice to know that Liam's there just in case :)
I love the way she plays her character to specifically have those specific awkward social skills without making her character dis-likable. That being said, this episode's table bothered me because it is more of a classic "boys club plus the girlfriend table" with 3 "that guy" characters being all cranky-pants. "Surly and stand-offish" is the easy-default RP style for so many, but it is tough to have more than one at a table and still keep it fun and light.
Trial parts 1 and 2 were, for me, some of the most enjoyable; I think both the players' humoring Lyra without ridiculing her and the jovial enthusiasm of the men there lead to it feeling much less awkward and more supportive throughout.
Marisha has described Keyleth as the complete opposite of her. Plus her being a woman in the entertainment industry and on the internet, she dealt with far worse than a few whiny people.
This. Vax is far less judgmental than Vex--its nice when he can remind everyone a little that they're suppose to be a team of characters. This isn't just everyone out for themselves.
Marisha definitely is not socially awkward. Its why her playing Keyleth as socially awkward is...well--its pretty easy to tell that she's heard of socially awkward people and the way they supposedly 'act' but she's never really experienced it.
Sort of like how Big Bang Theory tries to be funny about nerds....but its mostly just....backhanded insults.
This is true. I love Marisha, but sometimes I can't tell if she's playing up the socially awkward bit or the naive bit. Socially awkward people stutter when put in leadership positions, think less of themselves than would others, sometimes misread facial expressions or assume the worst of a situation, have slower reaction times to what people say (such as declarations of love or insults that we should reply to) but we're not altogether naive by simply being socially awkward. We might be relatively wise from observation, it's just that we have difficulty participating. I'm not sure how Keyleth's wisdom would affect her naivete, though, so I can't make any suggestions.
4:03:08 One roll away from losing the contract? I think not sir. Tibirius still had 2 more fireballs, a ray of frost, silence at level 10, fly and face punch, and flame breath. And wait until you hear what his 2nd turn will be!
underrated comment
Not to mention 25 sorcery points left to spend so he can reroll lower damage dice and to give the creature disadvantage on every roll.
don’t forget he’s able to cast wish and always be able to refresh it!
Dont forget that all his spells always do max damage, and he nevers rolls bad initiative or checks.
I was actually rooting for the Rakshasa after he used up his 3rd 6th level slot...
I love having Wil there because as a GM he sees all the Orion nonsense and you can tell he clocks it and doesn’t have the GM pressure to hold his tongue like Matt has to. It’s so nice seeing him go “yeah I noticed that ‘they all hit,’ thing,”
1:36:40 watching Liam's face up to 1:37:05
Yep, that's a mood.
Yep. Orion tries so hard to hole-in-one every single baddie. He just can’t fathom teamwork.
Such bad table play and there are guest there too. And yes, he tries to one shot solo the whole campaign.

Hearing Laura and Travis scream from the other room at the loss of the carpet was the best moment

@2:37:57. Lol
will they fix it eventually?
@@MrEvans1 nah, it's dead.
That carpet really tied the party together.
Matt was very nice with the whole, "You REMEMBER that you have Turn Undead" bit to help shepherd a rookie player.
MilSF1 I think this is why Matt is better than other DM's on twitch(at least in my opinion). He's more focused on telling the story which makes for a better streaming/viewing experience, and sometimes that means giving the players extra ways out or hints.
Some of the other DM's are so stubborn and set on their rules that the story takes a back seat. That might be more fun to play(subjective), but I don't think viewers like seeing a show reset 3-4 times because of a tpk.
MilSF1 Yeah he was but he was giving Will hints for a while before saying it clearly.
Speaking as a DM myself I would have done the same thing sometimes its good to give hints to people. Because the whole idea is to lead friends through a story not cause a TPK.
+aadio21 He also doesn't seem spiteful towards Tiberius when he keeps screwing up how is ring works. One of my last DM's would be.... unpleasant to classes or players he didn't like. Spiteful DM's are the worst...
I've had some awful DM's and some great ones, and Matt is quite possibly the greatest DM I've ever seen. I aspire to have sessions as great as his.
+MaereJaneMan I had a horrible DM once who essentially took advantage of a character flaw i had written into my character to constantly try and kill me, my character was easily distracted by shiny objects and had to make a wisdom throw to resist running after it (I thought it would be a fun thing). He almost always put shiny objects in traps. Whilst i knew that was going to happen sometimes, the amount of times he did it was ridiculous and it made it feel like he was going out of his way to kill me.
+Shric Debar That blows. TPK-hunters are the biggest turn-off to RPGs for me.
For someone that says, “I’m all out of spells and I’ll be useless in a fight unless we take a long rest”, the sorcerer sure is casting a lot of spells and high level at that.
I was thinking the same thing, for someone who would be useless without a rest he had like 50 counter spells and other spells he was using
Yeah it’s been established that he was regularly cheating (while still having a bad attitude) in the game, which contributed to them parting ways. Someone in a previous episode counted the number of sorcery points he used in one session and it was almost double of the maximum sorcery points he could have given his character and level lol.
"Why did you burn all of your sorcerer points? We told you not to burn all of your sorcery points. We don't have time to sit here and take a full rest." -Marisha Ray
@@chrisbruce3193 I actually expected him to say "I'll use my last 5 points and do fire balls" when he was in the fight. He did so in some previous fights

I'm sure ive heard that or something very similar on tv or film. but can't think where.
A moment of silence for the true MVP of this episode: The Magic Carpet
*distant Vex screams*
As soon as their first trial episode started and Marisha was telling matt that they had the carpet, I remembered what this episode entailed and cackled.
Vax: "... I feel a disturbance in the realm. We may have to watch for the fury of arrows..."
So upset about this
I know this is probably an unpopular opinion but I am a little relieved that the carpet lost it's enchantment. It really has been abused quite a bit, especially in the previous Klarota/Horn of Orcus ark of the campaign. It'll be nice to see them trudge through the dungeons and settings in a manner that makes them interact with the environment Matt put together. It was done well too. He didn't force them to use it and even tried to play it as if they didn't have it in their bag to begin with. He really did try to give them an out. It was almost as if he was giving them a chance to prove they could operate without it and they failed. I'm not saying Matt killed the carpet intentionally. I'm just saying that if he did... I would understand why.

Marisha looked so close to tears when Keyleth was unconscious, it would have been devastating if she'd died in this episode with Vax unable to help, Tiberius barely being helpful and the rest of Vox Machina not there.
And such a totally different vibe to the other groups trial, when Scanlan fell unconscious Grog turned his back on a dragon, rushed to his side, force fed him a superior potion and flung him to safety. It took an age for Tiberius to even try to give her the smallest potion possible.

Gotta get this gold back to the top of comments

I felt bad about the carpet, but Kashaw's reaction was priceless.
"She's still talking about the carpet... I was literally just swimming in acid."
Wow, I was _not_ looking forward to the two edgelords we were apparently being introduced to after their initial impressions, but... dang, one's a hardened father figure with a heart of gold, and the other is the broken cleric of a murderous god. I'm impressed.
Yeah I remember the first time I watched their introduction I just sighed at all the Edgelordiness they were spewing, then became more and more pleasantly surprised as things rolled along.
It's never as simple as it seems. Sometimes it's actually really good, but occasionally it just gets a lot worse. Luckily, this was option 1
I think we all felt like that, because we've all played with or even were that type of 2-dimensional edgelord at one point. But will was just playing on his low Charisma, and the other guy was a genuine newbie that eventually started to spread his wings. Both of them didn't fall into the trap many do.
It's just a shame he had to jump in when stuff around Orion was boiling up.
I think all of the guests made good characters for the time they had. My favourite was Lyra with Thorbir as a close second. Solid characters with solid stories not very clear to us but enough for us to understand who they are and just roll with it for a few hours.
Zahra and Kashaw are good too, but I just didn't spend enough time with them to become invested. The dynamic between Zahra and Vex and Kashaw spontaneous kiss was both amazing tho.
Thank you Critical Role!
Last episode was so hard to get through but this episode they're so much better. Before they were just quiet and kind of moody but now they're a lot more likeable.
2:37:50 The screams from offscreen were hilarious. You could hear Travis clearly “NOO!”
"Speak of my Sister again."
Cuts throat
"You will never. Harm. My daughter."
Sinks expensive Jewel encrusted dagger into eye socket, leaves it there.
Vax'ildan takes two mugs of ale as they leave the building, hands one to Thorbir. They make eye contact, clink mugs and walk silently back to the Slayers Take Guild.
This is better than most tv shows.
“And you - you might be the most annoying person I’ve ever met.” *Kisses.*

I started watching through this campaign because Matt was a guest on Grumps while Dan was sick. He was almost like a less chaotic version of Arin. And I’d heard of CR but never got around to watching it. Listening to Matt do voices and bits with Arin made me want to check it out.

Matt: rats are easy to hit
Will: no they're not
With his +10 attack modifier his natural 2 actually *does* hit. (A Rat Swarm only has an AC of 10. roll20.net/compendium/dnd5e/Swarm%20of%20Rats).
Made for hilarious RP, but if he'd just added up his modifiers and told Matt what he rolled, he would have hit other than the natural 1.
I have to give Mr Wil Wheaton mad props on rolling so many 1's and still having a good attitude about it. Own that shit! He must roll more 1's than anybody on earth.
I felt so bad for him 😭
He really doesn't I have watched every episode of tabletop and he's been saying this forever this is the only time I've seen him roll disproportionately many 1s. it's confirmation bias.

He's a fecking legend!
Some master forger would one day create a set of dice for Wil that would dispell the Wheaton curse for 1 session, but then it would need 1 year to recharge its energy.
I did the math. Without factoring in magic items like rings of spell storing, Tiberius cast 11 spells that he didn’t have spell slots for. Love that
He has a ring with 3 spell slots. Which he tried to use against the hydra to cast chain lightning a 5th level spell and Matt called him out for it
Also with the sorcerer flexible casting around sorcerer points
You can bend spells a lot
@@Pluto137 that’s very true. I didn’t take into account flexible casting
Didn't he give that ring to Scanlin? In exchange for the concentration helmet?
@@pauledwards2052 No, he gave Scanlan an ioun stone that could store up to three spell levels.
So I know Orion sucks but I feel bad for the rest of the group in a different way. This episode you can tell Matt, Marisha, and Liam are DONE with Orion’s bullshit but then there are these moments when Orion acts all goofy like at 3:54:40 when they are giggling at how he will survive the cave in with a bottle of air.
It feels like deep down they still love this goofy friend of theirs who is just crumbling/ falling apart from his addictions and other problems. Kind of like they are laughing at the memory an older, happier, nicer version of him they miss.
I know he sucks… but in a way I feel bad. Not necessarily for him.

This episode really cemented Liam as a favorite in my mind. The little things he does to add flavor to the story are so powerful, from his clear consern for Keyleth when Tiberius told him she was alone with the rakshasa to that part at the end where he and Thorbir silently share a drink. Vax was always on my list of characters I enjoyed, but he does things that go unnoticed or outshined by other louder characters. I really like his character now.
Yeah, same! Vax is my favorite Vox Machina character, for so many different reasons. Liam did an amazing job with his character, made him so layered and fleshed out, its truly a joy to watch Liam play. I'm holding watching the 2nd campaign, so i don't know all that much about 'Caleb', but if Vax is anything to go by, the little dirty wizard will be a treat to watch as well.
Cussundria Kneal I found the things Liam did as Caleb even better than as Vax. His character is really nuanced

Genius move on Wil's part to start using Commander's Strike so someone else rolls an attack instead of him 🤣
Will really didn't have much luck with his dice rolls, it's what makes his joy at a nat 20 so heartening
I really appreciate Will standing up for Matt around having respect for the DM and having the DM call things.
Yeah, it kind of annoys me when the cast of Critical Role just goes, "That hits." "That misses." I'm like, dude you don't fucking know for sure. Tell us what you rolled.
@@godspeedhero3671 100% of the time, they do. When you roll 2 and you know the monster has AC of 18, you now for sure you missed. They just want to speed up the bloat during their turns.
@@trndrd Yeah, they only ever say "That hits" or "That misses" when they roll way past or below an attack roll or AC that was stated beforehand lol. Taliesin is notable for this. For example, they fought a creature recently with like 15 AC and he rolled like a natural 18 + his modifiers so no need to even say what he rolled lmfao
@@godspeedhero3671 100% they know when they say "That hits" or "that misses".
I actually prefer when they know/remember what the creature AC is after hearing it the first time so they DON'T keep wasting time asking.
I don't see what you're seeing though saying that they behave as if they just know from the get-go (Unless they roll like REALLY high 30+ is basically ALWAYS guaranteed so no need to even ask at that point lol). The cast will tell their numbers only if they don't know what the required number to pass a check is. Once they do they just say it hits or not. Same way Matt will say "Oh that misses" Or "That hits" every now and then knowing their AC too and he rolls way under or over without saying his roll for creatures either.
Seriously, they'll be like:
CRC: 16?
Matt: That unfortunately misses.
CRC: 18?
Matt: That just barely hits.
Then they know from now on, 18+ is what they need so they'll say "That hits" or "That misses" and it speeds the process along.
I appreciate when they pay attention and I enjoy it more this way. It doesn't constantly break the storytelling.
I don't need to be told:
CRC: Oh, so I rolled a 19 plus my modifier so that's 28. Hey Matt, I know you said 18 just barely hits it but do I hit it with a 28? Cause I rolled a 28 in total. Not sure if that'll still hit. Does it still hit? Did the creature morph into something totally new between initiative? I know Vax just half a second ago hit with an 18 but I'm just not sure if half a second later 28 will be good enough. I'm too stupid to possibly remember that correctly from half a second ago. Care to weigh in Matt?
Matt: Uh... no, yeah; still the same creature and 28 will still hit... Okay so!
Honestly you should be paying attention too. Asking for them to tell you everytime like they're stupid and can't pay attention makes it like you're that person in the movie theatre asking questions every 2 minutes. "Who's that?" "Why'd he do that?" "Where are they going?" "I was busy asking those other questions and didn't hear her, why is she mad at him?" It's annoying and disruptive. Just pay attention and you'll know!!!! lol
The beauty of D&D is getting into the ROLEPLAY aspect of it, not focusing heavily on the numbers. The numbers just direct the story but the story is the star. Also, ever notice when they're not in combat and they have to do checks they ALWAYS say their numbers just like you'd like? They're never like, "Oh yeah, I know we don't know the full situation AT ALL but I for sure just passed that check, moving on!" They ALWAYS check when they don't know. And when they know, they know.
Edit: Now it's a totally different story if you don't trust your players at all and think they're cheating 24/7 (In which case why are you playing with them to begin with? Cheating takes the fun out of it for everyone) to demand to know/see their rolls every time. But the cast isn't like that at all, save for Orion, who the cast did say they caught a few times "buffing" his rolls or knowingly using more sorcerer points than he had; and he's no longer with them anymore for a bunch of reasons. The rest of them are good friends and they know and trust each other. You should trust Matt's judgement as the DM proceeding over the event. If he needed to know that badly, he'd ask. And he always does when he needs to.
Anyways, have yourself a good day! ^_^
Yeah, the DM solidarity between Matt and Wil gave me the warm fuzzies ^_^
Will Wheton is how someone should fail at rolling and still make it fun.
Take this as a note, Orion.
See wil has become accustomed to failure that is why he is ok with it 😂
50:45 just look at Liam’s reaction to the meta gaming display being put on by Orion.
He looks incredibly salty about not getting a long rest, more than any dice rolls.
@@idontuploadanym0re It is not actually meta-gaming what Orion is doing right there. It makes perfect sense for Tiberius to be perfectly aware of his own disadvantaged attack when in too close range, so Orion forgetting such a thing, and deciding against it when he is reminded is totally cool.
Same goes for the fireball during the hydra. He forgot something (got misinformed by Matt actually) that his character would know instinctively, and when he tried to undo it, everyone got upset, because Matt framed the situation like Orion had got it wrong.
@@idontuploadanym0re I totally missed this because I have started tuning out Orion so much that I stopped paying attention to the stream

As soon as I read this comment I heard Will say that
I thought there was a spark of hope for Orion when he dragged Keyleth to safety, even knowing he would be attacked to do so. Then he reminds me of who he is when he gives her a potion. She is on her 2nd death saving throw. He has 3 greater healing potions and he decides to give her his smallest one instead so she is barely healed.
This
There are things to complain about with Orion in this episode, but that isn't necessarily one of them. The smallest potion will get her to consciousness and save her. Giving her a larger one isn't going to make a meaningful difference in the moment (particularly with the enemies running away). Once she is conscious there are cheaper ways to heal her than using expensive and rare potions, including spells and - as they did - a short rest. Although I guess Keyleth was low on hit dice given she still needed a bunch of healing. There is a huge difference between being at 0 HP and 1HP. The difference between 2d4+2 (7) and 4d4+4 (14) or even 8d4+8 (28) isn't that big at this level.
A healing potion can give 2d4+2, a greater 4d4+4. A single greater would not have made much of a difference in the situation, it's close to meaningless to give him shit over that.
isnt that kinda meta gamey? I feel like if my good friend was dying right next to me I would give them the best damn potion I had.@@TheChiliconkarma
@@brianallen1559/ I suppose it could be "metagamey" under some conditions, but a smart character would be able to figure it out in game. Would be able to make a judgement call on what potion would fit the situation.
They are characters with some experience and Tiberius has 14 int. he might have been able to learn to conserve ressources and use the potions when the added power of the greater could make a difference between life and death.

Thank you! I had that thought last episode..
Well yes but you also had Tiberius against a Rakshasa and the really weak-one shot kill characters vs a white dragon. Both groups were kinda carried by Vex and Vax respectively. Everybody else could’ve done better on the opposite party. Imagine Scanlan charming his way through the rich-guy place. And Percy would do more damage on avg than spellcasters vs a Rakshasa. dig6394 True! But Wheaton has been to the mountaintop, so he knows what’s really important.
I think that's his goal
Thanks to his curse he has gleamed the true meaning of life thanks to the absence of the flashy lifestyle of high rolling.
In all fairness What We Do In The Shadows is absolutely top notch comedy. They have a series now and I was surprised Taika Waititi stayed on despite his schedule.
I think he is taking time to appreciate the little things. Can honestly respect it.
The Dragon Hunt Team: using superior health potions at every moment to make sure health stayed up
Tiberius when Keyleth is on death's doorstep: the simplest health potion he has
higher tier health potions are only for the main character i.e. himself clearly. also lets not forget that instead of healing her immedietly he dicks around draggin her away first which causes her to have to make a DS with 1 fail already which meant that he chose to give her a 1/20 chance of insta death
Also, Wil was damaging the guardian and then Tib decides to do a spell that would pin it out of reach of half the team instead of just doing some damage like with magic missile or something. Not that he's ever used that, I guess it's just too good of an idea.
Dragging Keyleth away was a terrible move, but using the smallest potion is perfectly reasonable when you have a cleric who's able and willing to heal. Refusing to let the cleric heal you and burning all your high level potions is the more selfish move, which is what Liam did. And on the dragon hunt team, Laura chose not to save Percy (who already had 2 failed saves!) and instead "hog the spotlight" and try to kill the dragon because Matt said it looked like it was on its last legs. Coming from C2, that moment really shocked me. Over 400 hours and I never heard any of the cast take that kind of tone with someone else. Makes me glad Orion didn't stick around tbh
To be fair, he wasn't given much option to state a reacton before and Matt didn't explicitly say the Rakshasa was using a spell.
@@godspeedhero3671 it’s not Matt’s fault that Orion isn’t paying attention. Matt literally describes everything going on in detail and Orion waits till after Liam makes his saving throws to say anything. After Matt said what the fail meant. He had more than enough time to counter spell.
It still ticks me, why does counterspell affects the Rakshasa who is immune to spells lower than 7th lvl?
@@Faaaaaaaay my guess is because counterspell isn’t targeting the creature but the spell itself.

Okay, i gotta say that Orion's gibberish-followed-by-"I'm speaking Draconian again" joke is amazing, had my dying every time it came back 😂 Orion really is hilarious (when he's not cheating or sulking lol)
On his next mission, Kashaw will be paired with... Lyra.
@SaiyanPride that would be a fun side story, how he gets out of being married to a God to be with Lyra
@@lukehicks6722 Would be funny to see how Aldore fit into that because he would absolutely have to be in that party!
That’s a perfect idea 🤯
Lol, Matt tried to get Will to use Turn Undead like two or three times before he realized Will just wasn't going to get it and had to tell him directly. XD
And then he just casts Bless on the turn after that, not following the direct hint from the DM right away.
And doesn't heal Keyleth after they beat her unconscious and she's making death saving throws, and Matt is saying "the ghost doesn't get its possession ability yet".
But if Kashaw had gotten possessed while Keyleth was still down, it would have been up to someone else to pour a healing potion down her throat.
He's a total beginner, someone should have been more direct in telling him what to cast, because that was absolutely horrible. They even walked into the boss fight not at full health because he didn't bother to get people close to topped up out of combat.
Great RP, but holy crap worst healer.
Let's all chug our biggest healing potions that we could have used as bonus actions in combat, instead of having the cleric burn some first-level spell slots out of combat.
The whole group was down at Tiberius levels of tactical decision-making, but there was no RP reason for him not to cast heals. (After admitting he was a priest of a nasty god. Before that maybe holding spells back to keep his holy symbol hidden.)
Peter Cordes yeah part 2 of his first game. Clerics can be rough as it is. He could have done much worse.
@@Peter_Cordes That drove me crazy, I was yelling at the screen 'heal her!' darn Cleric.
@@Peter_Cordes ok couch gamer... relax
@@Peter_Cordes He was a complete beginner and clearly didn't know what half his abilities did, and he offered to heal people out of combat lots of times but they told him no. The others should have helped him out more by having their characters ask him for healing if they needed it or suggest "the thing Pike does - I think its called Turn Undead or something".
How has there never been a Slayer's Take One-shot with the guest stars from this arc? Seriously....how amazing would that be, just to see Friedle's character interacting with Felicia's would be comedic gold.
reminds me of monster hunter. I wonder if mercer played it
🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻
Another thing that bugs me about Orion is that he always cuts Matt off going "I cast light pfhthpfth" whilst Matt is in the middle of atmospherically explaining what they can currently see. At least let him finish explaining what's there first.
haha that "pfhthpfth" has gotten really grating by this point
I actually enjoy this, it seems a very Tiberius thing to do. Take a moment to realize it is dark so LIGHT!
@@aaronpendragran5387 I totally get it's within his character to cast light when it's dark, but he interrupts and cuts off Matt when he's speaking which is rude. He could just let him finish talking and then when Matt says "what do you wanna do" he says he'll cast light.
Well, he was the most important being in the game in his mind, so that bothered me but never surprised me
@@riqueoak7256 Oh it didn't surprise me either as I watched him get progressively worse, but it annoyed me greatly.
Fun fact: Otyughs, (the monster in the trap hole) have an intelligence score of 6, which is the same as Grog
This is why I come to the RUclips comment section
They also smell about the same
Both will also eat anything
@@catblue4690 I immediately thought of the “this chicken is delicious”
Scanlan: it’s a plank of wood
... The two would be an even match in checkers. XD
What makes Matt a GREAT DM: He takes Wil's Curse into account whenever possible, even softening the 1s. There've been plenty of times when he could have been a LOT more vicious to Wil than he was, but once it became clear that Wil has UNCANNILY bad Dice Chi, (even worse than mine, which I didn't think was possible) he took it into account and basically "OK, I'm gonna decide that you Rolled this, instead, and treat things accordingly."
Matt has stated before that he doesn't usually apply extra negative effects to critical fails, though he did a few times for Wil (getting his axe stuck, etc).
I have a friend who uses to play with us in our group.
They don't anymore because they only rolled 1's or 2's, usually 1's on checks or things they were good at, and 2's at things they had bad stats in.
edit:
it was a rough couple of games.
One handy tip to deal with horrible dice karma (and Wil should take note of this too) - play casters who mainly throw spells that force saves (plus Magic Missile). That way you leave most of the major dice rolling to the NPC's.
I had a party member once who was like Wheaton. My DM treated Nat 1's as Nat 1's, but gave him an extra 1d10 for 2's, 1d8 for 3's, and 1d6 for 4's. I kept track of his rolls for a session, 37 rolls, and except for one Nat 20, he got under 10 literally the entire game, mostly under 5. It was unbelievable
@@CadillacDeVilledElegance They should check out the 2d20 system used in Star Wars and other Modiphius games. You want low rolls and 1’s are crits.
46:00 Seeing Wheaton's edgelord dwarf turn into comic relief due to his rolls is amazing.
I feel his pain...my dice jail is not big enough to house my misbehaving dice....
Seriously the incompetent dwarf flailing around in the background is hilarious.
Liam is having the best time being possessed and I love it.
he was so happy he had a perfect excuse to attack orion, AND Matt gave him the action to roll for the attacks lol.

*Vax finishes the rat swarm with throwing daggers*
Thorbir: That still only counts as one!
Love the reference.
Get you a man who looks at you the way Liam O’Brien looks at Matt Mercer.
Watching Will Friedle this episode has been a joy because he's not used to Orion's antics and is just reacting to him like a regular person as opposed to the other players who are trying to keep it under control. Best moment in my opinion was the story of the Acid Guy and Will's reaction to that back and forth.
I was rather annoyed with how grumpy both Kash and Thorbir were in the beginning, but can I just say that the way Kash goes from "Is she always like this?" To "You said you were single?" Towards Keyleth and her nicknaming him Cashew is just a gem.
Wow, Will Wheaton gives a new meaning to the phrase "another one."
this was honestly so funny i started wheezing
HOLY FUCKING SHIT
Tiberius calls Keylith "your highness"
Kashaw: are you royalty
Keylith: *just literally woke from the dead* it's a long story...
Kashaw: are you single
Marisha, breaks character laughing
Keylith: ... maybe
IM DYING LMAOOOO 1:51:53
heheheh keylith, a baby, absolutely catching feelings: you scared them with positive energy? .... would you use some of that positive energy on me?
I like how Will Friedle premade his character as a grumpy guy but after playing and realizing Liam, Wil, and Orion are all playing the same way and it's kind of a bummer he than shifts slightly to be more comedic and try lighting the mood. The worst thing you can do in an RPG is play a standoffish grumpy asshole. It's might be in character but it's not fun for the other players.
I love how hard Marisha is trying to keep this session afloat. It might have honestly tanked without her! Vax is bummed (which is a fine character decision) and all the other characters are GRUMPS. She is the one ray of light in this episode!
Hey im grump
Im not so grump
And we're the game grumps
Yeah, I'm watching right now and you're not wrong. They're doing things right of course, that's how most of their characters would logically be in this situation being used as fodder in a trial with people who didn't even want to be guild members, but to the viewer it can be a real downer. Keyleth is trying her best though!
"Ray" of light...
Tiberius isn’t a grump it’s Orion who was a grump because he couldn’t get his sorcerer points back
@@mrjerrio1 i think its kinda sad that everyone is so in dumps. obviously it makes sense for their characters (a peppy battlemaster dwarf would be weird) but the other group had such a fun balance with Lyra being so fun and different from the brooding dark background that is so common in DnD
I love how when Matt decides the ghost possessing Vax is going to attack Tiberius, he smiles and decides to let Liam roll the attack and damage. LOL
Liam just really enjoys doing this.
Light them up, pretty.
the ghost didn;t possess Vax, Vax controlled the ghost
@@wolfox7776 PLOT TWIST!😱
Liam seems to enjoy being possessed/charmed. There's a great episode in Campaign 2 where Caleb is charmed I believe, and right as it gets to Caleb's turn, before Matt even tells Liam what to do, Caleb releases a fireball at the team. Matt was shook
@@bekahfalldorf3740 Liam and laura are really good at method acting their characters imo not surprised he personified exactly what his char was going through hehe
I think one of the best things about Matt Mercer’s DMing style is how he totally, convincingly misleads the party when it comes to important checks and saving throws. Big, momentous occasions like when the Carpet broke really got me. He went on with just enough detail and just the right tone to make you believe this object survived the fall into acid and was magically repaired, only to throw the “it’s enchantment is gone” right at the end. Beautifully done
This episode marks the 1st episode Matt says "My GF/Wife everyone" when Marisha does something xD
Someone please give me a time stamp for this. I missed it.
