@@spaman5440 Thank you very much for the follow-up and information. I purchased enough 6 stranded THHN wire to run the two hot and one ground (Sundance 680 Series Spa / 240V 3Wire 60Hz spa model).
@@spaman5440 OK today I ran three new #6 THHN wires. Instead of using a fish tape I used the old wires to pull the new (one at a time). Worked great. 😀 I left/abandoned the old white/common and put wire nuts with electrical tape on both ends. The new hot tub is being delivered next Thursday. If I can get one more bit of advice, I could really use it. I know I am a DIY guy and don't have the credentials but I am really confused by what I found in the outside breaker box. The wires feeding that box from the inside breaker panel had four wires. They were all in the same jacket. Three what appeared to be #6 and a "skinny" bare ground. I have to admit I don't understand how the three wire setup works with two hot and no common but I really don't understand that skinny ground handling the current from the two hot #6 wires in a three wire setup. What am I missing or do I have to somehow run a new ground into the house panel using #6 wire?

When he tried to connect the tub the tub would not run. After he left I did some googleing and realized he was trying to use all 4 wires when the tub was a 3 wire tub.
