    Scott! Your awesome, you explain every single step! If someone who watches your videos and can’t follow ….then they should hire someone- I for one have had 3 estimates to run wire and hook up my soon to be hot tub- estimates from $2890-$4500 was way out of my budget- I’ve learned so much from your videos that I will be running my own wire- and hooking up my own hot tub. I have hooked up basic wall plugs know I can do this- I’m a 60 year old gal. I’m a new subscriber and will continue to follow your videos- thank you so much for taking your time in helping so many. 👍🏻❤️

    Are you using liquid tight metallic or non metallic?
    I have existing 1in Rigid conduit running through a deck to where the hot tub sits (from spa gfci panel). But trying to figure out how to finish the rigid conduit to the spa pack.
    Plan is threaded rigid conduit to a double female threaded sleeve to a seal tight fitting.
    Assuming metallic seal tight so I can continue the conduit ground from the rigid conduit but would love confirmation. Thanks!

      If your manual shows (110-220v) or (120-240v) it can most likely be set up either way. Some hot tubs can run on 1 hot (between 110 to 120 volts), but it seems like people prefer the efficiency of the 2 hot wires (between 220 to 240 volts) probably because it can warm up the water much faster.

    • @spaman5440
      @spaman5440  Год назад

      They are both hot wires and it is alway a good idea to mark the wires and put them in the right place according to the colors marked on the wires as well as to where it connects in the Panel ,Breaker, Spa Pac.That way everyone is on the same page as to what is going on. Question… when you fed the conduit through the body of the hot tub, did you use a fitting of some sort to get that home water tight?

  • @phantom5185
    @phantom5185 2 года назад +1

    Ok,OK, got it. (My wire has black / red / copper / blue) no white. And or Green. So, from the panel red connect to the box right-side black left-side. from the tub connects to the breaker, going to match it red on the right-side black on the left-side, blue at the back on the breaker.
    I purchased 84 feet, from the tub to this GFI 10-feet so I spilt cutting the wire. This is why I have four wires red/black/copper and blue.
    [I'm stuck buddy, if the wire that is coming from the house panel is the same from the tub, to the GFI box where does the blue wire go??]
    Your video is great, would love to get your feed on this, please? Thanks ahead Sam..
    I would really love to hear from you, no rush. My tub isn't coming tell Dec,2021 It's ready for Plug 7 Play at 120 outlet. I have the PDF for following conversion change to hooking to a breaker. For the jets and heat will be running at sametime.
    Thanks in Advance..

    Hello thanks for the video .
    I have a free flow tristar spa coming in and am wondering about the wire and gfci breaker .
    The manual for the tub says to use 4 wire # 8 and a 40 amp ?
    All I see people use in # 6 and 50 or 60 amp ?
    Is there any harm in using a 60 amp gfci shut off rather then the 40?
    Also when running the wire from my Main to the sub. Do you use the same uncased #6 you have in the liquid tight?
    Thanks in advance!

    • @spaman5440
      @spaman5440  2 года назад

      I use #6 wire and a 50 amp GFCI breaker with most of my installs the only time I will use a 60 amp breaker with larger wire is when the Hot Tub has three or more motors/pumps and or the run from the main to the Sub is over 125/150 feet .I would never recommend #8 with a 40 amp breaker!!!!! Several reasons why (1) when you are running all motors with the heat on and its cold outside and spa is trying to keep up wires get hot and breaker trips. (2) on the other hand here in Az when it is 115 degrees during the summer and heat is off motors get so hot it trips the breaker. (3) If you decide to sell this spa and buy a different spa that requires a larger service #8 will not be large enough. For the most part #6 with a 50 AMP GFCI breaker will handle most spas. Hope this helps Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING

    Why #6 awg wire in seal tight? #8 awg THHN wire is rated for 50 amps. Just making sure I’m not missing something.

    • @spaman5440
      @spaman5440  2 года назад +1

      I get this all of the time...Yes #8 is rated for 50 amps and in some cases might work....However I will not ever recommend ever! When you take pumps and motors and add a heater to the equation put the Hot Tub in Arizona when it is 115+ degrees out during the summer...everything is working over time and breaker pops and pops and will not set because wire is to small. The same will happen when you place a Hot Tub in the cold of winter anyplace were the temps fall below 50 degrees outside..pumps and motors are working overtime to maintain 100 + degree water... now Im going to add more to the problem. Some Hot Tubes have 6 to 10 total HP(2 or 3 pumps & motors) and a circulation with a 5.0 heater or larger add in all of the elements I pointed out above and #8 is just not enough...The other problem we see is 8/3 and 6/3 wire being used..It will pass code and with in a short time the money saved will cost you twice as much to fix the problem.Hope this Helps Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING P.S. I am working on a video on this subject called ...Which wire and Why

      We ran a sub panel for and outdoor living area that was going to have an out door kitchen seating area TV and one Spa to start with
      So from the main we ran #4 to the Sub.
      The Sub has space for 8 breakers. two of the spaces were used up by the 50 amp GFCI for the Spa the other 6 spaces were going to be used up for the other electrical need in the future.
      Now from the 50 Amp GFCI in the Sub panel to the Spa we ran #6 THHN wire to the Spa.

    When running the 6/3 from the sub panel through the liquid tight do you remove the outer sheathing? My run will be under my deck for about 4 feet and up and through the tub floor. (Master Spa Balance 6)

    • @spaman5440
      @spaman5440  Год назад

      OK... First You (I Would) never use 6/3 from the Sub to the Hot Tub. Second I (Me) would never go under ground and up through the floor of a Hot Tub (EVER) The only time I would use 6/3 is on the interior wall of a structure or attic and even then it is very rare. When doing any outside wiring I use #6 THHN or THWN wire only. When doing wiring there are several way to do it that meet code and several of those ways will become a maintenance nightmare of the breaker tripping all the time. Using the right size wire and type will make you a Happy Spa Owner. Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING

    • @spaman5440
      @spaman5440  2 года назад

      No.. Seal tight is used for above ground only! And is used from the Sub Panel to the Spa/ Hot Tub... If you run the wires under ground between the Sub and the Spa it will work for awhile and then one day the breaker will start tripping and you will go nuts trying to figure out what is causing it..Just some of the things Ive seen over the years. Great info Spa Man. If my breaker box is inside the house can I use 6/4 Romex to the exit point outside of the house and then switch to the four individual #6 THHN cables? If so, where and through what type of LB or connection box is that cable connection made. The spa sub panel will be about 2' below the where the cable(s) exit the house.

    • @andygigawatt7778
      @andygigawatt7778 2 года назад

      Sounds fine. But 2 inches vertically down to run a pipe or LB is a bit short. The LB is going to be about 4 inches long, so don’t mount the sub panel until after getting the LB connected to the sub panel and situated in the home run penetration spot. Hope this helps.

      Well, on a 50A/60A circuit the equipment grounding conductor can be #10 THWN (NEC T250.122) -- which, for example, is why #6 NM (Romex) only has a #10 ground. This is because the equipment grounding conductor only has to carry fault current for some milliseconds to trip the breaker (and the GFCI will handle any other low current "leakage" scenarios -- like through your body).

    Hi Spaman…Thank you for all the great videos. I have a question for you but before I ask, I’m offering a suggestion for your next topic. Maybe you can let us know what we should have in possession before we take delivery of our first hot tub and whether it’s better to go with Chlorine or Bromide. In my case I’m wondering because my Plug N Play comes with a Ozone module. Anyways, on my hot tub it says 15/30/50 amps. I know that mine is a dual 120/240 but in California it’s 110/220 here. Don’t know if it matters with those specs, but why the 30 amp specs instead of being just 15/50 amp specs? Is there a 30 amp setup and if so, what would that include? Thank you in advance. I can’t wait for your next video. PS: I ordered my hot tub a month ago, but I see now that most sellers stopped shipping to California. Do you know why this is happening? I think I should be fine seeing how I got my order in before that happened because my tub still shows shipping and if I simulate ordering another tub it won’t let me past the delivery address now. I can’t find any info online why I’m seeing these California notices now. Anyways, thanks.

      A lot of people use that type of wire to save money but in the long haul it will cause you a lot of problems when running from the Sub Panel to the Hot Tub...I always use #6 THHN wire just like I show in the video... Ive had several electricians tell me over the years that 6/3 is ok and it meet code and will pass inspection and that may be true...And over the years Ive had several hot tub that had a breaker tripping problem that we found nothing wrong with the HotTub and come to find out the wire from the Sub Panel to the hot Tub was 6/3 (A Spa Tech Friend of mine said change the wire to #6THHN wire) So I did and the problem went away.. ever since then I have never installed anything but THHN wire in a Hot Tub.And have had to replace wire in hundreds of Hot Tub with problems that others have said there is something wrong the th Hot Tub and it was the wire.. Now this is just what Ive found out by working on Hot Tubs in Arizona.But I have had several viewers tell me that it fixed there problem also.. I hope this Helped Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING

      My neighbor had a MAJOR issue when he ran uninsulated ground wire. It burned a pump out almost right away. He replaced the ground to insulated THHN and NO issues since. The ground SHOULD have a "sleeve". Moisture can appear in the conduit (= condensation). This can short ANY uninsulated wires. This leads to lots of drama.. Spa Man noted it well!

    After reviewing your videos I've decided to do my electrical as a DYI. The hot tub 4 wire (Bullfrog) requires 240v/50a service.
    My plan at this point is to install a 50 amp breaker on the main panel with a 90' run of 6AWG to a hot tub sub-panel, the sub-panel would have a 50 amp GFCI breaker, then the remaining 10' to the tub with 6AWG. All of this would be run through 3/4" or 1" PVC, galvanized, or flexible conduit. Due to the rocky terrain only about the last 8' will be buried.
    My questions:
    1. For the main panel is a 50 amp breaker ok, or maybe a 60 amp?
    2. Is a 100' run ok with 6AWG?
    3. Any thoughts on conduit type?
    4. Am I missing anything?

    • @spaman5440
      @spaman5440  2 года назад

      GFCI 50 amp breaker in the main or sub should be fine ...THHN wire #6 preferred...And you need a 50 amp breaker in the sub panel disconnect no closer then 5 feet to the spa and no further then 20 feet in line of sight.. PVC is for under ground galvanized is for against a wall...Seal tight/Liquid Tight/ Flexible if from the Sub panel to hot tub only and should not be any longer then 20 feet. Hope this helps..
