This guy is great....I spent about $450.00 on materials and followed Scott's instructions.Just installed a Bullfrog tub and electricians charge between $1500.00 and $2000.00 for wiring. Thankyou Scott for saving me a ton of money!!!!!!!!
I hear that! I’m a 60 year old woman- have had 3 estimates on wiring my soon to be spa! They wanted from $2800 to $4200 for my job. I love the Spa guy! He explains everything and it’s easy to follow him. I just laid my own concrete pad yesterday 😊 I can do this👍🏻
excellent video and very well explained, I just got all my materials in and I am about to run all the wires and connect things up until my spa gets here next week Thank you so much
This was a really good video. After 2 failed attempts at trying to wire it myself, I had decided to look at your channel. I have successfully wired it myself and my spa works. Thank you so much and keep up the videos

Bought a used hot tub & am trying to wire it. It actually has 220 AND 110. Thankfully, the guy I bought it from took pictures of the connections before unhooking it all.
Thanks a lot! I know it's for safety issue, but where I live it is impossible to get the info on how to connect the wires. I've called everywhere and all they were telling me wass : Call an electrician. I then called the electrician that told be that they are super busy at the moment (covid-19 related) and that they could only help me in 8 weeks!!!! The spa is already in my backyard, saw your video, installed my cables, everything works like a charm, Thanks a lot!

I got quoted $3K to run this 30' from my main breaker. I think I'm going to do this myself. of course after turning off the main panel on the side of the house! thanks for this
This video is great. A few tips I learned the hard way. That lid will remove with a large flat screwdriver. Just pry out the outside tab a tiny bit bu turning the driver. #6/3 wire although it fits in 1/2" conduit, you'll never get it through. Get 3/4“. ...Back to Lowe's
What is the name and numbers of the breaker box and breaker. I’m having a hard time trying to fine a breaker with three spots to land you’re too hot and neutral. You have been the most helpful out of all videos I’ve seen. Thanks
Hi Spa man.. Great Video. I have a watkins Hotspot thats been working great for years 4-5 ... the main 2 spead motor Wet pump went out and put water on motor of the 2 speed pump. I assumed that was what caused the breaker to trip... after research and finally buying a complete watkins 2 speed motor pump for $500 , i replaced it and filled tub... no leaks and everthing seemed great... I was able to get my 3 jet speeds or 3 levels of jets and was ready to leave it alone for the night to heat up from 50 deg to the 102 deg. but checked on it and 50 amp breaker was tripped... I could reset breaker and check everything again, but i just reset breaker and let it sit. at that point , i think only one pump comes on to curculate and the heater to heat... at that point, it tripped again . is my heater bad causing it to trip? Thanks Spa Man... your the best !
Bruce.. I have another video..That has 6 reasons the spa trips the breaker. If you watch that video it will steer you in the right direction. Thanks for watching and Subscribing.
Thank you, this was very helpful. You kept your explanation simple and easy to understand. One of the better videos I watched on RUclips. Again thanks!
Great, easy to follow video, thanks! We bought a vita spa envie which is designed to trip the breaker when you first start it up. My question is why and what if it doesn’t?
I have NEVER herd of a spa that is designed to trip the breaker when you first start it up...Maybe I don't understand what you are saying ..if you need help you can call the office and Ill try to help You.
Hey Scott I have a Jacuzzi Whirlpool bath it must be 25 years old I'm trying to convert from 120 to 240 volts the diagram seems sketchy I would be extremely grateful if you could video chat your videos are great and I appreciate the time and efforts
Excellent video! We recently bought a house with a Jacuzzi in the bathroom. The home inspector’s report said that the motor wasn’t grounded. I am looking at the motor now, and see a grounding screw on the motor, with no wire on it. Where should that wire go to? Thank you.
If you look the side of the pack there should be a ground bar...If not it is on the inside of the pack.. Just depends on what pack and Hot Tub you have.... Hope this Helped and Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING
At the main panel, where does the white common or neutral wire get connected and where would the ground wire get connected at the panel? Thanks for all your videos.
In the main panel Ground and Neutral share the same lug (Ground lug) in the sub panel they must be separated like shown in the video. Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING
Excellent Video, I have installed several of these over the years and I always come back to this video to refresh my memory before installing. I was wondering what the purpose would be to removing the filters prior to turning the spa on? Eliminate air gap or air lock?
When you turn the system on you want as much flow as possible so you don't get an air lock... so you should always remove all filters and throw them in the water so they are wet and ready to go once the Spa is up and running for several minutes...sometime a dry filter will cause an air lock. Hope that helps and thanks for Watching & Subscribing.
Nice video. My second jets were going off and on. Still on warranty so I called the technician.. He tested and said that was mostly likely just a bad switch on the other side for first jets but I can still use the tub until the part come in. So I started to warm up the tub, but I check on it later - no power to my control panel and the circuit breaker was tripped. So I reset the breaker and my wifey was like the control panel light flickered but off again. The breaker, however is not tripped. Several attempted to reset the breaker and only a flicker on the control panel. Now I can’t cold water and no lights on my “Hot Tub”.
Quick question. I am moving my hot tub off a brick patio and onto a rebar reinforced slab. Before I pour the slab, I am adding a threaded rod pounded into the ground and connected to the rebar. I'm going to have the threaded rod stick up out of the cement as a way to ground the rebar. Should I run an additional ground wire from the bar by the pack to the threaded rod as a 2nd ground? Would that help if somehow the water in the tub got electrified?
I would run your wire from the main to the sub and then to the spa in #6 THHN or THWN wire no matter what and if you want to add the ground bar for added measures that fine. You alway want to make sure the main sub and spa are all grounded together on the same line with the same size/type of wire. Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING
Explained pretty simple great video.👍 I'm going 2 give it a shot. Just poured my pad, gonna set tub next week. Only question I have is there a max distance u need to be from ur hot tub 2 the disconnect?
Yes...Min of 5 feet away from the hot tub and 36 inch hight and no further then 20 feet and in the line of sight..#6 wire on all wires and use THHN / THWN only Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING
Awesome Video I have a hot tub sub panel with a 20 amp and 30 amp breaker. I need to change to 50 amp for my new hot tub. Questions: Can I remove the two breakers and install a 50amp? Do I need a whole new panel? I am assuming I will need a larger wire from 50amp breaker to hot tub? If a larger wire is required do I need a larger gauge for all 4 or just black and red? In addition in the panel, there is another 20amp breaker which powers outside lights. How can there be only a power 50 amp breaker at the main breaker box to the hot tub panel and there be 70 amps worth of breakers in the panel (20+30+20)? Sorry for all the questions! Thank you!
Im so sorry I just saw your message If you still need help best way is to call the office..Depending on your answer will tell me with way to go . Office 623 842 4665
Somehow someplace something is not wired right or the breaker could be bad..If you can't figure it out.. Scott might be in the shop working and he can get you headed in the right direction.. Thanks for watching & SUBSCRIBING
This was an excellent tutorial, thank you for posting. The spa box I am mounting to my house is 60A so I used 8/3 from my sub-panel. The spa asks for 50A. Then used 6/3 from the main to the sub panel since the sub panel will have a couple other outside breakers in it.
Great video but I don’t think you explained or possibly emphasized which side of the breaker you connect the source power and which side the load is connected to? I’m assuming source is on the bottom and load is on the top.
I am changing out the sub panel box on an existing wired hot tub. I noticed that I have a GFCI breaker in the main panel. Is it ok to install a sub panel box that came with a GFCI breaker in it? Essentially having GFCI breakers on the line. Thank you!
You only need one GFCI breaker...So you put it in the main or the sub but I would not recommend installing two GFCI breakers. You will have nothing but problems... Hope that Helps Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING
Great video! What type of wire should I use if I wanted to run the conductors from the GCFI disconnect to the hot tube? Assuming I am going to use SCH 80 tube.
Thank you Spa Man! Great video - explained it exactly as it's supposed to be wired correctly. I got my Artesian South Seas Spa up and running in under 2 hours. THANK YOU!
Great video, thank you very much. What is the breaker in the house pops only when everything is turned on? IT comes onand runs but when the heater and all jets are on it pops. Thanks again
Thank you for very informative video. I already have a sub box in place that I want to connect my spa to, but the sub box does not have a GFI breaker. The main box has a dedicated breaker to the spa but it is not GFI. Is it possible to just switch out the breaker in the main box with a GFI?
Do you also need a disconnect (knife switch) after the main panel breaker and just before the spa subpanel? I’m in California, which might be different than Arizona. Thanks. Your demonstration was very helpful
Hi Scott I had my hot tub brought up from Florida to here in Tennessee. Unfortunately they want between $1250 to 1500 to wire the tube up..ugh So I started watching your video on how to wire up a hot tub. My question is how do you wire into the main panel from the sub panel? I do have a 220 outlet on the outside of the house that goes to the panel inside the house if that helps.
awesome video. My existing wire is 2 black, 1 white, 1 green. Can I assume the 2 black are for black and red? does it make a difference which black I hook to red? thanx!
Hey that was so helpful thanks I am about to put and jacuzzi hot tub that I have ordered already but I thought it can work with three wires but do you think I need four wires including two hot wires and also I am trying to put 6 Hague will that be fine
Awesome video ! Helping a friend with a hot tub it’s a Dynasty hot tub, got it wired up works , but when I hit the 2nd pump on, it’s throws breaker? Also radio won’t work , chi’s all fuses , no power, an lights don’t work, I think power Pak or inverter is bad? Last can the wet end or impeller housing be rebuilt ? Leakin at motor shaft?
You have a lot going on... Its tough to help you here.. If you call the office and ask for Scott he can get you going in the right dirrection. Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING
Thinking about getting a hot tub and placing it on our stamped concrete patio. There is no need for a bonding grid in our situation, but would it provide extra safety to drive a ground rod in next to or underneath the tub and bond to that?
(DISCLAIMER) Yes it will power up without GFCI Breaker... The purpose of a GFCI is to prevent a ground Fault... When a GFCI detect just 5mA of leakage between the hot wire and ground. The breaker will trip to protect the Hot Tub.. It is also required by all Manufacturers and will void some warranties if not used and installed correctly. I alway check to see if a GFCI is installed and installed correctly before I do any repair on any Hot Tub I work on.. Thanks For The Question
My epak that I just bought doesn’t indicate a clear spot for my incoming ground on my 4 wire. It has a grounding bar on the outside like he shows, but no pass through(hole) to connect it like this. There are two ground connectors/bolts inside the pack. Should it just be connected there?

Questions:
Can I remove the two breakers and install a 50amp?

If a larger wire is required do I need a larger gauge for all 4 or just black and red?

Hey that was so helpful thanks I am about to put and jacuzzi hot tub that I have ordered already but I thought it can work with three wires but do you think I need four wires including two hot wires and also I am trying to put 6 Hague will that be fine
I have an old hot tub Balboa equipment inside need to know how to check my panel or where I can just get a replacement
You would need to call the office and talk to Scott The Spa Man...
I appreciate this also will this setup work for a n I ground hot tub too just curious how they are wired

I would consult the ( NEC ) National Electric Code Handbook before I do anything..Better to be safe then sorry.
About to try this. Exactly how deep must the trench be to run the power?
I have done all of that checked voltage at all 3 location 240 all good but no display on control Panel does hot tub have to be full to start?
Yes..some Spas have to have water in them to have a reading on the topside display.
Will the hot tub not power on if I did not use gfi braker ?
This video is great 👍🏼, do you have any video about equipotential bonding on Concret base (swim spa)?tnks
