- Along with milk and bread, eggs are one of those classic food staples. They're an ingredient in tons of recipes and can be a meal all by themselves. They're also, like milk and bread, quite perishable. But it may be surprising how long they can last when stored properly. The Egg Safety Center says they can be eaten well past when they were packed. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says much the same.
The key is refrigeration. If eggs are kept at a temperature below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, it greatly extends their shelf life and helps slow the growth of bacteria. So just how long can eggs really last, when stored with care? Watch and find out.

What's your favorite thing to make with eggs?
Huevos(egg's) and chorizo
I like egg bites!
Poached eggs, ramen eggs and Desserts.
Bacon, spinach & cheese quiche. Also, boiled eggs are a must have in this household 😁
Pretty much anything meat or poultry with eggs! Well Marbled Ribeye Steak, Fresh Pork Belly, Bacon, Sausage Links, Burgers, Hotdogs, Kielbasa and Sausages and Soups! I'll even take fresh cuts of Pork Leg Meat, Hocks, Pork Back Fat, Steak Fat, Turkey Tails, etc, fry or broil them and fry an egg or two on top and that would be my meal! YUM! ^_^
I've learned that eggs normally last about 3 months past date on the carton. After that you have to do the float test to see.
Yeah, I've eaten eggs that old myself
“They are cheap…”
This didn’t age well
They are still cheaper than any other protein
"When refrigerated eggs are left at room temperature, they last less than 2 hours?" Bullshit! I literally never put my eggs in the fridge! They stay on the countertop for a couple of weeks. Never an issue.
Thank you
Thanks man,.. this what I was looking 4
That's the same with me and my entire family, including my grandparents...
I’ve been wondering how long my eggs last in the refrigerator!!! Thanks for the insight!!
When our fridge broke down 2 years ago, we had well over 2 dozen eggs inside that just stayed there for several weeks after we took all the perishable and frozen foods out. The reason they stayed there for so long is because it took forever for the fridge to get looked at and even longer to get it repaired. It was fairly new model purchased back in 2016. I ate them all within a months period and they were still quite delicious. They had a very faint funky taste, but no where near the feeling that I was gonna get sick if I ate them. I never did get sick and if I had to do it again, I'd have no issue with it.
When I lived it Paris, we NEVER refrigerated our eggs! I always bought them, non refrigerated and they tasted WAY better! I really wish the eggs here were like that! It's SO much better!
Refrigerating eggs is weird. (Brit)
Yet we can guarantee all eggs in the UK are free from salmonella and can be eaten raw. (The red Lion stamp is printed on all egg shells that are safe.)
Washing eggs is bad. Which is what America does.
Also I’ve not met an American who disagrees that EU eggs are better than American.
Americans that eat eggs from small farm chickens don’t wash or refrigerate…. Like me. And UES they taste far better
Many Americans eat eggs from chickens raised on small farm and don’t wash or refrigerate…. as my family does….
And YES they taste far better
I've eaten countless thousands of British eggs in my 62 years. Usually I eat around 365 per year. I've NEVER been harmed by an egg, nor do I know of anybody who has!
British 🇬🇧 eggs are the best! Thank you to our wonderful farmers, and the hens who lay the eggs! Eggs are my all-time favourite food. I literally can't get enough of them! 😋
God Bless the United 🇬🇧 Kingdom! ❤️
I accidentally left a dozen eggs in the fridge for 5 months. I was really hessitant to use them but I didn't want to waste food. After cracking open a couple of eggs and seeing the egg yolks were intact, we used some in scrambled eggs. I also boiled several. The egg whites of the boiled eggs tasted a bit rubbery but overall the eggs were OK. These 5-month old boiled eggs still tasted better than the boiled eggs served for breakfast at Hampton Inns / Holiday Inn Expresses/ Residence Inns. Now I'm curious how old the boiled eggs are that are served at those hotels.
I regularly keep eggs longer than you recommend. I always keep them cool as possible on the way home from the store and immediately refrigerate them. When I cook the eggs I look them over and if they show signs of being past useful life very few look that bad. I don't eat them. I also always cook my eggs till the whites are firm. I also watch eggs from a brand "New Cartons?" because it's not unusual from some sources to have very old or broken eggs in a new carton. Some even float the day you get them.
Unwashed natural eggs also store much longer. If you use them look for eggs from people who keep clean nest boxes and brush them off when collected if needed. Also clean water wash any that aren't the very best quality and use them first.
For easy peeling of hard boiled eggs: Leave eggs out on counter top for four days prior to cooking. Is it safe you ask? I'm 65 and still alive and kicking.
I'm almost 62, and I adore eggs! 😋 ... Thanks for the tip, because shelling eggs is not always easy!
Lol 5 weeks.... I get a month or two before I even begin to question my life choices.
Can you freeze whipping cream before it is whipped?
About a week, that's how long a 12 egg carton lasts in my household before they are all gone. If I bake that week it will be significantly shorter.
At least a month. Older yolks tend to collapse and mush into the surrounding white. Fresh yolks stay round and firm and plump. When my yolks start mushing I’m usually ready to toss them and move on.
Eggs are "cheap?" ... Here in the United 🇬🇧 Kingdom, I used to buy 15 eggs for around £1.15 at Aldi ... Now, I buy 12 eggs for £2.69, so the price has more than DOUBLED for three less eggs!
Eggs are my all-time favourite food. I eat one every day as part of my breakfast.
❤❤
Pernah sekali nak masak megi. Pecahkan telur, dah tembelang ade anak ayam busuk dlm. Kah kah. Terkejut campur geli. Buang dengan kuali sekali terus.
I used my for 6 weeks
I get mine from the Hutterites yummy
your egg will float on a water test because your stores do not have to sell fresh - they can be up to 90 days of age before they are packaged and sold with a "best before date" lol brand new eggs fresh off nest can also occasionally float ... sign me experienced poultry owner
No need to wash them, waste of time and money.
Ex organic egg producer.
Thank you, Edmund😉
Ever hear of the Japanese 1000 year old egg?
Lack of calcium in chickens cause weak shells
My neighbor just gave me a half dozen duck eggs and they last 30 days unrefrigerated. Fresh eggs are amazing. They just taste better.
Yeah my mom brings me eggs from her chickens. It's so hard for me to leave them out, but I do. Lol
I love eggs! Just thinking about them makes me salivate! 😋
@marcse7en
Yup. They are God's multivitamins.
So good for you 😊
I feel powerful
Its not you, its the eggs
Well; the incubation period for a chick is three weeks, so I assume an egg would last at least that long?
Arnold Shwarzenegger even eats them raw. I tried it once and liked it. But if you’re not used to it it could be kind of weird
That got me too buff like ahnold
Does cooking eliminate salmonella ?
Yes!!
@@silviacarrion7995 Thank you...
It most certainly does!
@@marcse7en Thanks!
