How Long Do Eggs Last Before Going Bad?

- In most countries we keep eggs in the refrigerator to prevent them from going bad.
However, eggs can last for a surprisingly long time when they're stored properly. In fact, if you throw eggs out as soon as their expiration date arrives, you may be wasting money.
In this video im looking at how long they really last.

The "cuticle" you refer to is actually what we call the BLOOM and it's a mucus layer that makes it easier for an egg to pass through the hen and for the eggs protection. That layer dries, there for, preserving the egg. Hens lay clutches of eggs over a two to three week period, one egg every day or so. When she goes to incubate it will only be after she's laid the entire clutch. So the bloom is there to preserve the egg that she first laid until she's laid the 14th 15th 16th Etc egg so that they will all incubate and hatch at the same time. Washing the egg removes the bloom and that's why you have to refrigerate eggs that have been washed because they no longer have the natural protection of the bloom. My source: I raise chickens.
There’s a big difference between store-bought eggs and home raised eggs. The eggs I get from my backyard chickens can last for months in the refrigerator if I do not wash them.
I don't know man. I just ate a hard boiled egg that was sitting in my room for almost a week. I'm still here and it tastes as good.

Actually, eggs that are fresh from your own chickens don't expire. The reason we have to refrigerate them is because the eggs we get at the store have been treated with random chemicals.
DJ Statyk So true. I have backyard chickens and we don’t store eggs in the fridge. Only when we buy store bought eggs we refrigerate those.

If the raw egg in shell floats in a pan of water it is bad. If it sits on the bottom of the pan of cold water sideways it is still good. up to 3 weeks after expiration date .no longer.

I still wonder how many eggs are actually *Bad* when refrigerated... 3 months in the fridge, undisturbed... are they actually bad or just more likely to be bad?

I forgot to throw 2, eggs in carton. Now left to hometown for long duration. What will happen after? Will it break automatically and spread foul smell, insects?
I keep all eggs in the fridge in the door, sorted linearly left-to-right by their age. They come in varying levels of cleanliness. The latest "omega 3" eggs have a lot of nutritious shit on them. The supermarket keeps eggs only lightly refrigerated on open shelves, so it is fine. Additional cartons go where it is convenient. The back of the fridge is for dairy and meat products. You can't put everything there. I always smell a cracked egg in my hands before dropping it into food, cook older eggs to hardness and eat uncooked only fresh eggs.
Eggs always float in the pot for boiling and are ok. If they are not handled, boiled eggs should be fine for around a day at +18°, as they are waiting to be put in salad. When they say "room temp", I guess they have to account for worst-case scenario of 30° in summer, and reserve margins everywhere else too.
It's hard for an egg to go bad in my house. They're usually eaten long before this can happen :D

In US stores they are usually next to the milk in the fridge area

Ah! This happened to me once, so now I have two bowls when I do this.
I cant eat egg, I used to eat with pleasure when I was a kid but now, I dont know why, I cant.
So I crack an egg into my milk, cocoa, honey, peanut butter and oat mix. Use a blender to mix it and drink it. Its delicious and contains high protein. And the good thing is I dont even feel, smell egg.
I know the risks of salmonella, but either I wont eat any egg or I will do it this way. Is it so harmful or dangerous ?

Unwashed Eggs stored in lime water can be stored at room temperature for up to 2 years.
Watching this now because most of my eggs have risen when i put them in a water :( and they don't taste as good.

The worst is when you drink milk, and then realize that you just drank a disgusting udder pus infection from a cow that was under the weather or had cystic udder acne from all the ordeal of daily living arrangements.
At least in the U.S. that doesn't happen anymore and hasn't for many years. Dairy farms have machines with special lights and sensors that detect foreign matter in the milk like puss, feces and blood. If found, the pumps shut down and the milk is rejected. The machine is then cleaned, sanitized and put back in service. If you are getting milk like what you say in the U.S., you're not getting it from the dairy industry.

My name is true tech, and i am a milkaholic.
I never refrigerate eggs and keep them @ room temperature 4-6 weeks and haven't had any issues with salmonella. I must have a billygoat stomach.
