I think they did it because their aircraft orders will likely be filled with the engines that come with the Ultrafan technology updates. It also makes sense for them to replace the Asiana A380s with these and incorporate the Asiana pilots into Korean Air.

A350 is an amazing aircraft I wish more airlines used because the ability to fly to almost every airport on earth in one shot is incredibly smart in future-proofing routes that could need to be rerouted for geopolitical reasons in a heartbeat thanks to the plethora of regional hot wars burning as we speak...
If the IndiGo order also goes through, then its going to be a stunning first quarter for the A350, so no wonder there are rumours that GE want to get on board, especially with the uncertainty of B777X certification. RR have an exclusive until 2030, long after I suspect Rolls will have diverted UltraFan tech to upgrade the Trents, and with a solid order book for the 350, what would be in it for Airbus..........?

@@marterair551 IDK.. the 900 is called A359 and the -1000 is called A35K... i kind of think it was a misstake by Airbus starting the number on 900 (well i guess 800).. and not 200 or 300 that they typically do. For example the A320 series is first called the 318, 319, 320 and 321. he second gen (basically the one called CEO to day) is called 32C, 32D, 32A and 32B. And the neo version is called the A19N, A20N, A21N But for the A330 series.. its just A332, A333, A337, A338, A339. A340 series work the same way.

What engine issue? U mean the emirates engine issue? That's for middle east - due to sandy condition the RR XWB is deem not that powerful enough for that CONDITION but for south korea and Japan where the air is much much denser the RR XWB performance really well. So it's about the location of the plane taking off from not the plane itself

Comac's backlog is nil and their potential to produce units rapidly for quick delivery far exceed that of Boeing and Airbus. Boeing and Airbus saved again.

For the first time ever KE ordered aircraft with RR engines.

Maybe Korean Air could have used some of those funds to offset the 28,000 American forces stationed at the DMZ to protect Korea.
