  • When beta cells are dying, how is the process somehow similar in different types of diabetes? Find out in this conversation. Dr. Marc Hellerstein talks about: how to protect beta cells against autoimmune attacks in type 1 diabetes; preserve beta cells in type 2 diabetes, and more. And by more. . .
    Can beta cells regenerate in type 2 diabetes? In recent years, the scientific community has made advancements. Stem-cell-derived replacements for beta cells are making headlines. These breakthrough is believed to bring us closer to therapies that protect and/or regenerate beta cell mass. That said, Dr. Marc also shares his insights on the proliferation of insulin-producing beta cells.
    Beta cells produced in the pancreas play a major part in the onset of diabetes. When cells in your muscles, fat, and liver don't respond well to insulin and can't use glucose from your blood for energy, the pancreas is forced to make more and more insulin. Over time, the beta cells are exhausted and die off - leaving the body deprived of insulin. And the result is diabetes.
    Dr. Marc Hellerstein is a professor of Human Nutrition at the University of California, Berkeley and a professor of Endocrinology Metabolism and Nutrition in the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, UCSF.
    Dr. Hellerstein received his MD at Yale University and completed a PhD. in Nutritional Biochemistry at MIT. He ran the diabetes clinic at San Francisco General Hospital for 25 years and his major research interest has been in developing novel ways to measure critical metabolic pathways in humans so that we can understand how to use this information as biomarkers for medical diagnostics and medical therapy.
    Dr. Hellerstein has many decades of clinical research and experience with diabetes. His work has resulted in over 250 publications and more than 80 patents.

      I'm calling you out bc there is no such thing as a type 1 being cured of type 1 based on diet alone. Type 1's making either zero or close to zero insulin. They literally die within weeks without insulin. Cut the nonsense!

    What if your blood sugar is fairly high in the morning? 5.7 but your a1c test comes back at 4.8? Could this be explained? Is that a lack of insulin? I also believe a fasting insulin test along with a c peptide test is paramount

    Curious, what stem cells could beta cells come from?

    I think SAD is a problem for us. It makes us ill from the beginning. Almost everyone on SAD will be ill or will have insulin resistance and corresponding diseases like CVD, strokes and kidney failure.

    What effect do beta blockers have on beta cells

    • @CheamCreese
      @CheamCreese 2 года назад +1

      The "beta" in "beta blockers" refers to beta RECEPTORS in the heart, lungs and other organs. This is different from the beta CELLS in the pancreas. Now whether a beta-blocking medication may have an impact on the pancreas in general, or the beta cells in the pancreas specifically, that I don't know. If it is a concern, I would suggest searching in medicine databases or pubmed or talking to your doctor or pharmacist.

    Does keto diet give beta cell a time to rest?

      @@pickledrick5158 I’ve noticed you in the comment section on a lot of these videos. It’s weird that you’re here to comment or argue with people on what they eat. It’s just bizarre. Are you lonely? Depressed? Why don’t you start your own RUclips channel and spread your beliefs there?

    • @precocioussceptic4967
      @precocioussceptic4967 2 года назад +2

      @@pickledrick5158 zero self righteous. But 100% backed by evidence from my own experience with keto and my genetic reports which show gene variants where saturated fats lead to high blood pressure which I developed, weight gain, and diabetes. For as much as it works for some people it has the opposite effect on others. It depends on your genetics. So for as awful as you think wfpb diets are, it is irresponsible and unscientific to promote any diet as the best without knowing a person’s genetics. Trolling comments is just pathetic. If you’re as smart as you think you are, start your own channel and spread your gospel there.
