I don’t know why, but this video made me cry. It just warms my heart that there is a person like you out in the world. I’ve always felt like there has been so much hiddenness and exclusivity in the photography world. Thank you for being you and further opening this space for people who want to learn.
Thank you so much. This video is for me too.I appreciate every single word.Hope to see you sometime on you tube.I just bought my leica M11, after months of savings.Greetings from the small island of Capri,in Italy.
I identify with you so much. I quit commercial photography some time ago after just getting so stressed out about running a business as a commercial photographer. I like you had a broad range of clients from doing editorial work for a variety of magazines, social documentary, portraiture and weddings, Without blowing my own trumpet I was pretty successful but I really stopped enjoying my photography and became more and more stressed. Now I am getting back into my personal work I sold all my big pro DSLR cameras and lenses and now have a couple of Leica's and some lenses. Good luck for the future.
You’re going to thrive here, brother. I’m so glad I came across your channel. I was actually introduced through a friend. I used to be a professional “service” photographer, selling my skill rather than my images. After ten years and the burnout of being away from my family I left it behind as well. I wanted to get back to taking images that meant something to me. Your story is so inspiring, Dave! I wish you the best here.
Congratulations to show us this reallity, im in the same situation 20 years working for clients and never had time for me, now its the first time that i said something about it, so thanks a lot to did this video. have a big hugs from the Canary Islands. Will be in contact my friend :)
It’s amazing seeing your channel grow from when I first subscribed. It’s evident how much passion you show in making them. Good luck in pursuing your dreams!
Excellent. I think you have just voiced something that I have been pondering, but didn’t realise it. Good luck on your next chapter on this photography journey.
This is absolutely beautiful, and I respect the heck out of it Dave! It's literally everything I preach (even as I start down the road of paid photography). But the soul of photography should be that smile on someone's face when they see a gorgeous picture you've taken of them; the joy of getting to use a masterful preset you've dedicated time to. If you're ever back in the PNW I'd be honored to shoot around with ya!
I did the same decision last summer. Our reason were different tho, I just decided to go back to school and just focus on my studies. Good luck with RUclips.
Congrats on your decision! Love the channel. I just bought an m10. So stoked. The previous owner put gaffe on the logos. When I took it off it left some gunk behind. Any advice on cleaning this? Google gives so many ways with mostly using chemicals. It’s my first Leica and don’t want to haphazardly start trying chemicals and mess up what pretty much is a great condition Leica. Thanks for your time and channel.
Happy for you man! I think I stumbled on the channel right when you jumped back in to dedicating time to RUclips. It’s been cool to see the growth. Really enjoy your content across the platforms, and how you engage with people is pretty unique! It’s inspiring to see people make things work for themselves. Like you are doing now. Enjoy Jackson (one of my favorite places in the world) and look forward to seeing some photos and videos from the trip/project!
Thanks! I love Jackson, but I feel like every year I’m here (and it’s been many) this place is descending more and more into a playground for the super-wealthy. Sad compared to what it used to be to be. Anyway, thanks for the support and for the kind words!
Good for you! Years ago, I was involved in the photo retail business and co-owned a studio - it leached the joy of photography from my life. I wound up doing other creative, intellective work until I retired 11 years ago. Once I left the other photo-related work behind me, the joy of photography returned and persists and continues to grow as I close out my septuagenarian decade. Best of luck! P.S. - I really like your FP4 preset. Cheers!
as someone whos currently discussing with myself wether i should take a risk and follow an passionate idea, this video was just wonderful and so needed. they way you talk is inspiring and so full of gratitude. thanks man and good luck in all your plans and dreams! TO DREAMS
Looking forward to seeing your 100K RUclips Silver Creator Award. 'Subtly' sitting on your bookshelf in the background. I don't even own a Leica. But you're 'good people'.
I love this. As I've said on IG I love this channel. Also purchasing the presets with no regrets. I currently use them on nearly every image I'm showing online right now 🙌🏻
I started doing paid work on the side along time ago and it was good, but my hobby became a job and found I wasn't enjoying my hobby a whole lot... For years now I only shoot for me and enjoy it that way and will never go back.. Thanks for the video's Dave
Long time lurker here and user of your Gold 200 preset. Always value your persona and your open acknowledgement of your underlying faith. Wishing you my best. And please, please, the world needs a proper 500t/800t preset in all its teal-shadowed goodness!! lol
Great video Dave, if you are in the position to make that lifestyle move go for it! Have you considered producing a Lightroom colour grading course? I would buy that in a heartbeat.
Hey what your doing is incredible I’m pretty amazed I used to do flips and freeruning and I used to front flip off of 20ft but I don’t think I recorded those but I do have some videos of 15 foot front flips on my instagram. The one issue tho is that I tried to front flip over a railing land of only three feet of space over the 20 ft drop and the. I was going to try to front flip off of that. The front flip over the railing didn’t work I didn’t land hit my back did a second front flip down the 20 feet and face planted onto concrete. It’s a miracle that I’m alive today and I’m so much more responsible and polite since the accident. I love photography as well and I’m trying to get back into it so I’ll be watching you a lot more now as well. And it’s been really cool how you’ve said everything and it sounds like a great way to be thinking about it. And also I hope you have a great day
workshop on the bay ........ it'd be a dream for me !!!! but I'm from Italy 😞, if you'll organize a workshop in Italy I'll partecipate for sure !!!!!!!
@@davidherring I Made a trip with the family last summer from SAN DIEGO - LA - SLAB CITY - SALTON SEA - PALM SPRING - BARSTOW - CALICO GHOST TOWN - DEATH VALLEY - PASO ROBLES - MONTERREY - CARMEL - BIG SUR- SANTA CRUZ - SILICON VALLEY and SAN FRANCISCO !!!! It was the best trip I’ve done in my life !!! California is Amazing
Dave, as someone who has used your Portra preset since the day you launched it (which coincided with the day I got my first Leica), and all subsequent presets since, this is fantastic news! Best of luck with it!
I have tried, they don’t work as well. I hired two others to bring my presets into C1. They couldn’t get it to work either. I could just slap it on and throw it out there, but I can too much about the quality to do so. If I can ever get things to look/work the way they’re intended to in C1, I promise I will. Haven’t given up yet.
Ha yep, but remember what I said…. I have a portfolio of things I do. Professional photography (as in actively using my time for photography income) is taking a break for this season, but we’re totally fine.
@@davidherring good to hear. I’m in a life transition at the moment myself- sold my art gallery in Colorado, moving back east (Boston) and my wife and have a 1 year old with another on the way. It’s hard to envision myself taking another risk in pursuing my passion for art and photography with more mouths to feed. It’s such tough conundrum and so more content like this would be greatly appreciated! I’d love to share my experiences, how do I connect with you directly?

Thanks so much!
Hey Dave, all the very best of luck on your new journey - I look forward to joining you on it !!
Thanks Colin!

Funny to hear you say this after I’ve seen about 3 “I’m quitting You Tube” videos recently. Best of luck!
I’m going the opposite direction haha

That's great. I wish you the best on your new path. And your presets, especially the portrait 400, are amazing 💪🏻
Thank you so much! So glad you love the P400 preset!
Best of luck for your journey. Everyone is quitting something everyday, not easy to change a career direction. Keep up with the good work on RUclips

Thank you! You’ll love that M10. Get some goo-gone and it should come off. Go easy and use your fingers.
You could well end up working more hours but it is genuinely satisfying to own your own time. Keep your options open and enjoy the ride. Good luck!
Truth!
Perfect!!
I hope so!
It is a very good choice. Do it! It cut down my working hours so that I could be more with family. Feels great!

I can’t definitively say anything as to not spoil that pipeline, but give it about 35 more days or so and keep your eyes on VGP.
rootin' for you man!

Maybe down the road!
Man I resonate with this video. I'm in a similar position and have been feeling the same way for a while.
